Great laser projector for the price

Very solid and compact projector. I am using it at 80-100 inches, and I am still able to have ambient light in the room without the image getting too washed out. The resolution is good and the colors are vibrant. The menu is responsive and the voice feature makes browsing very easy. The speakers tend to sound tinny when watching movies. The fact that it is not compatible with Netflix is definitely an annoyance, but that is clearly stated everywhere online so not a surprise. All in all a great and portable projector for the price that delivers a great movie experience.

The EpiqVision EF12 is a compact and feature rich projector! The image quality is excellent and, unlike any other projector I've used, the sound is great! Features The EpiqVision EF12 is a laser projector with Android TV built-in. Because it has Android TV built-in you can access a lot of content without using a separate device. It seems to support any streaming service accept for NetFlix. For some reason you cannot install Netflix on it. It says it's not compatible with this device. Like any Android TV it also has Chromecast built-in. I've already found that to be very helpful as you would expect on a projector but can't play NetFlix over Chromecast either. It does play over HDMI of course. I've used a lot of projectors in the past but never worked with a laser projector. I'm guessing that's what gives it the excellent contrast ratio. It has two HDMI ports, one of which actually supports HDMI ARC so you could connect it to a sound bar. There is one USB port. I plugged a USB mouse into it and that works fine. I also was able to plug in a video game controller and play games on it too. It has auto keystone correction which works very well. If you re-position the projector and need to correct it there is one button to press on the remote and it will do the keystone correction again. I haven't had to manually mess with the image settings at all. Design The feel of the remote and Android TV on this projector is more responsive and just feels better to use than other Android TVs that I've used. This is a very compact projector. It's easy to move or travel with. It has a great speaker built-in too! The sound by Yamaha is very good! It will fill a room nicely making voices easy to hear and with a good full range of sound and some good bass for the size. This is by far the best sound I've heard out of a projector! The fact that the projector is very quiet helps the sound too. I've used HDMI and the Chromecast to display things, including playing the audio. Since this projector has such great sound it's an awesome bonus that there's actually a Bluetooth Speaker Mode you can turn on! It's one button press on either the projector or the remote and it's active. Then just use your phone or other device and pair to it with Bluetooth like you would with any Bluetooth speaker. So not only do I like playing video on this but also listening to music! Image Quality The image quality on this is excellent! Images look sharp, flesh tones are accurate, and colors just look rich. Contrast ratio is often not very good with projectors but that's not the case with this one. I can see darker scenes and shades well. Colors are rich giving accurate flesh tones. I feel like I'm watching a TV - not a projector. The color is just good, rich, and even to the corners of the display. It's not the brightest projector but it seems brighter than I was expecting. So you may want to turn off the lights in the room. I think the "laser" technology is what gives it that HDR contrast ratio and the overall excellent color. There is no adjustment for the throw distance. You move the projector closer or farther from the screen to change the image size.

If you’re in the market for a portable projector that performs well, get this one. Epson EF 12 is a product that will surprise you in a good way. Its compact size packs a lot of punches. I like the fact that this product has tons of tech on its sleeve: it is Android TV capable, has both Wifi and Bluetooth, the lights are laser powered and the audio bears Yamaha insignia. I’m comparing this product to a cheap portable projector that I purchased a few years ago. The picture quality is so much better. Native resolution is Full HD and it can support 4K and HDR content. From the point of view of average user, not a picture expert who uses sophisticated measurement tool, the picture quality looks great, sharp and bright enough. You’d be getting the best picture quality in a dark room using a screen. In a room with plenty of ambient lights, the projector can still perform though you can’t expect the picture quality to be as good as in dark room. Audio quality is nice, it’s loud enough to fill a room. The Yamaha insignia on the projector does not disappoint. The bass is there, the audio has a lot of presence. The projector can double as a Bluetooth speaker, which is a very nice feature. You can use the built-in Android TV to stream content directly, though not all streaming apps readily available. You can also connect the projector to an external video source through HDMI such as for playing PC video games, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, etc. Movie nights in the living room or the kid’s bedroom are no problem due to its compact size. You can easily move around this projector everywhere in the house. This is a great product. Hats off to Epson for developing this product.

Outstanding Portable Projector, Poor App Support

I mostly wanted this for something my kids could move the Tripod where they wanted it, hang a sheet if necessary, plug just a power cord in, grab a remote and stream to their heart's content in mere minutes, with friends (come on COVID vaccine, come on) or by themselves. And this comes sooooo very close to hitting for the cycle, although there is a work around for the most glaring omission. This will be a GREAT outdoor projector when the seasons allow it again. It works well on most flat walls of various colors in dim light settings, obviously way better when dark. I couldn't believe how well it looked projected on a rough brick surface above a fireplace, even in a living room with some daylight (not direct obviously). Fits on a Tripod well, the accessory mounting plate wasn't available at review of this, but there is a single mounting thread on the bottom of projector as is to use, a M4 x 6mm deep thread. I was able to modify a camera/device quick release mount, removing the 1/4-inch thumb screw, and replacing with a M4 hex headed bolt and washers to make a secure tripod mount. This has an auto picture orientation adjustment, making it very novice friendly. They can place tripod from about 8 feet away, OFF TO THE SIDE, so the projector is to their right and still get a properly rectangular image with no input on their part, very user friendly. The sound on this is very good for a projector, and you can use it as a standalone Bluetooth speaker, the bass is surprisingly good. It gets plenty loud for movies and same room music listening. There is a headset jack for external listening, it cuts the sound from the built-in speakers off when you plug into it. The Android TV interface is a bit different than ones I've had in the past, log in with your google account or make a new one, YouTube Premium worked great as did YouTube Music. I tried a lot of Apps, like Disney+, CBS ALL-ACCESS, VUDU, etc, and all the available apps worked as they should. Does NOT support Android TV apps for Netflix and Prime Video. So, if you are Netflix or Prime Video centric or even leaning, it might make sense to get the similar projector without the Android TV built in, although you will also lose the very good built-in speakers. I am using a streaming stick in one of the two HDMI ports to get to Netflix and Prime Video, and although the stick complains on startup that the USB port on the projector isn't good enough to power it, I've had no problems streaming for hours using just that and not an extra power plug in. All in All, I would really recommend this for its portability, compactness, feature set, and ease of use. I modified one of those hard cases to store it and accessories in foam padding and it turned out great. If they can get Android TV to support a couple more apps for use, this will be the best all-in-one unit ever.

The Epson EF12 is more than just a projection system. It is a full smart tv in a box projection system. You can use the unit all by itself, right out of the box. Opening the box, you’ll discover the unit measures about 7 inches square and stands only 5 inches tall. It’s a very compact projection system, packing a lot of features. Included with the unit is a quick installation guide, power cord, remote control, and batteries. Plug in the unit, face it towards a blank wall, and turn on the unit. The unit quickly gets android installed and shows you how to pair the remote control to the device. You select your language, then have the option to set up the device with your android phone, tablet, or the remote. Setting things up based on your phone is very quick. Should you decide to configure it with the remote, it is a matter of configuring the device via an on-screen keyboard. Once through the basics, you will see a series of screens describing some of the Android TV features. View those and you will see the Android TV home page. Now you are now using a fully functional smart tv. You can select from suggested applications such as Disney+, EPSN, CBS All Access, HBOmax, iHeartRadio and a host of other Android TV applications including Kodi. If you don’t see the one you want, simply start up Google Play, search for the application and install it. Start the app and watch whatever you want. The projection system consists of a 3 LCD laser projector and a very nice sounding Yamaha sound system. You can connect an external sound bar via HDMI (ARC) and you have a connection for a total of 2 HDMI inputs. You can also stream to the device via built in Chromecast and bluetooth connections I love that you don’t have to do anything to adjust the display based on the attitude of the unit, other than press a button. It self focuses and automatically adjusts so you have a perfectly skewed image on the wall. Even on a textured wall, the image is crystal clear. It’s a full 1080p resolution displayed at 1000 lumen so you should be able to see it just about everywhere. The projected image can be anywhere between 30 inches diagonal all the way up to 150 inches (about 12.5 feet”). I really like this unit. The fact that it runs Android TV, makes it a great stand alone unit. I highly recommend it.

I'm not going to go into anything technical with this review, because anyone looking at this projector should know this is not a home theater level projector. This is for someone wanting to quickly set it up for parties and sleepovers etc... Is a little slow to boot up, around 30 seconds. With that said this unit is no slouch, it's plenty bright. Rated at 1000 lumens It produces an excellent picture. The built in speakers are actually pretty good. I found that turning off the bass setting sometimes improved the vocals. While they can get fairly loud, I would connect it to a larger speaker for outdoor use. Gaming! Yes it has a little input lag, but know what you are getting into and just enjoy it for what it is. A portable as long as you have AC power quick setup projector. Honestly it's not bad at all perfectly playable with many games. The built in android tv and chromecast is a great addition. Not needing anything other than ac power to be able to start projecting is pretty slick. No amazon or netflix, but we successful installed disney+ . You’ll have to attach a Firestick or Rocku to get Amazon or Netflix. The remote control is pretty goo too, soft click buttons. Couple of items of note but not killer aspects- 1. There is no Netflix! That is a big minus as the purpose of having android TV is moot if you cannot access all apps that a conventional Fire stick or Roku device can do. Amazon Prime, Peacock, ESPN, Hulu, Disney+ all work really though. 2. A zoom function would have been really useful, as currently, the best way to adjust picture size is by adjusting throw distance. Other minor aspects- 1. Lack of lens protection 2. Keystone function is average at best

My kids have been asking for a projector forever! We finally have one and it is the best, it is super easy to plug in and start watching. The picture is so clear, the colors are so vibrant, and the sounds is absolutely perfect. Best of all you don’t have to be an IT person to figure it out and set up. It looks great wherever you decide to use it because it is compact and sleek and totally portable. It can be used for streaming or games so it is versatile. It is great for places in the house that there is no tv - especially outside on these summer nights. You can use it with or without a screen - works just great on the wall. Treat yourself to this compact projector and enjoy it because you will not be disappointed. This is a review for the Epson Mini EF12 Smart Streaming Laser Projector that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Pros: - Sharpness - Brightness - Adjustable display - Built-in speakers - Small profile Cons: - AndroidTV is merely good, not great - Need to get creative to adjust the throw angle vertically As far as picture quality, I've never seen a better projector. Our ceiling is too low to mount there, the back wall is too far to throw from there, so we've mounted the projector to the SIDE WALL. This miraculous device can throw a 144" projection at a ridiculous angle while keeping all edges of the display crisp. We've had some problems with apps, but that seems to be an AndroidTV problem more than a projector problem. Casting to this device is reliable, there is no native Netflix app, but a $40 Roku device fixes this. With a projector setup, you'd probably plan to install some nice speakers, but the built-in speakers in this projector are surprisingly good if you mostly use it for casual entertainment and don't want to drop another $2k.

Epson EpiqVision Mini EF12 - Decent projector

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Projector is fine... Google TV has very few apps and vendors like Epson will likely not update the android version over time and then android apps will not create new versions for the old version of Google TV... that's the biggest issue with a projector like this... the vendors only want to support the apps for maybe 2 or 3 years on your specific device... then they consider it trash. Vudu content shows to only play in SD (DVD quality) for some reason if you are streaming from internal Google TV. No battery... so it cuts down on portability... no case included unless you purchase directly from Epson and then they also include 3 years of support. The case purchased separately is about $115 and that includes shipping. Best Buy does not stock the case at the local stores. You will likely need a stand to place in the center of the room, and an extension cord running across the floor as this isn't a short throw projector or mount from the ceiling. Only Epson screen sold at Best Buy (Duet) is 80'' and projector can be used up to 150''. The cost is around $150 for the projector screen. You can just attach your own 4k media stick and stream higher quality (UHD) content like FireTV cube or stick, or Apple TV 4k, or Roku Ultimate etc. I have not tried this yet, but that is my current understanding. Speaker is Yamaha and supports bluetooth... so you can use it to listen to music, but the remote does not have a pause button... so if you leave the app... the music continues to play, but you have no way to stop it unless you go back the app or start playing other content and then while in the app press the enter button.
