Customers appreciate the PowerLite Home Cinema 3020's impressive picture quality, enjoyable 3D viewing experience, and its ease of use. Many also find the brightness sufficient and the price reasonable for the features offered. However, some users note the projector's noticeable fan noise and relatively large size as potential drawbacks.

I love it and still using it now, since 2016. I barely got the notification to replace the bulb. Not bad for using it daily.

I purchased this to replace a 10 year old Panasonic projector because it seemed it just wasn't bright enough and Best Buy had a Flash Sale on this projector. I wasn't in the market, but have been thinking on upgrading and I sure am glad this deal came along.
My setup is in a home theater in my basement with a 100" screen and the room has only 1 small window and is very dark.
Although it is much bigger/bulkier than my old Panasonic, and although it was a bit trickier, it did mount on the ceiling just fine. Setup was relatively simple.
The image is much brighter and clearer than my older unit. With the lights on, the image is very viewable, while my previous projector would wash out. The picture is crisp and the colors seem great, so I'm very happy with that part. But, there were unexpected surprises that really makes me pleased with this unit.
First, 3D. I've not been a fan of 3D as it never seemed to do much. However, I did have a 3D title laying around - Madagascar 3. Wow! 3D movies look great, especially some animated titles and it has reignited my interest. Try Finding Nemo, Monsters U, TinTin or The Walk, just to name a few. The Epson 3D glasses are expensive at $80-$100 and it comes with 2. However, I was able to find some Panasonic glasses for under $20 that work great and bought 5 pair of them.
Second (and since our room is very dark, this is a great bonus for me), the remote control is lighted! Not just the power key or the volume/channel, but the entire keypad! I have $300 Harmony Remotes that aren't backlit and it is very rare that any remotes are - I don't understand why. But this is great! No more hitting chapter skip when I'm just wanting to rewind a few seconds. Also, providing you have the proper cables/system, the remote intelligently switches to control the device being used. I can control the Blu-Ray functions and the receiver volume from this remote and I like it much better than the Logitech Harmony I have.
Overall, I'm very pleased with all aspects of this unit and the only small negative is that it is heavier and bulkier than some units. But, once I mounted it on the ceiling, it is a non-issue. Great projector and great 3D.

Having had my last projector for 10 years.... a Sony 720p home theater projector. and 5 bulbs and more than 10,000 hours... It was time to replace it. I looked at projectors and new I wanted a 3d projector and 1080P. I thought 3d would be ok, but it really is very good. I watched Avengers in 3d and it had a lot of depth, much more than a smaller Sony LCD 3D PS display and both have active shutter glasses.
The contrast is very good too, light bleed through in the black areas is very low. But that is the contrast, bights are very bright and the darks seem darker hence the high contrast ration. The brightness is very good too and I can have more ambient light in the room and still not have it the screen look faded. This is projected 20 feet to the wall and I have the horizontal width of 10' projected for this too.
You have to make sure the 3d glasses are turned on or the projector will tell your system it is not 3d capable...
I would buy it again, but I would like the extra sets of 3d glasses to be less expensive though, since you only get two of them.

Upgraded my home theater from a Sony projector which should have been good. This projector smokes it. Vibrant! With excellent black contrast. Great on lumens can have back ground overhead lights on and picture is as good as most hd tvs. No motion artifact with watching sports!

This is the 2nd Epson 3020 projector I've purchased. The first is used in a room with a wall of windows on one side and open space to a skylight on the other side. So there is plenty of opportunity for the picture to be washed out during the day but it works pretty well. At night, it is awesome and that's true even when we keep the lights on. The image is being thrown 19 feet and it arrives with a vivid image whether watching a movie, sports, or HGTV. We also bring it to the back yard for our outdoor movie nights and it makes that transition very well, too. The fan has become a bit noisier with age (almost 3 years old) but I suspect that's because I've never cleaned it. In fact, I haven't done any servicing (including lamp change) because it just works. This 2nd purchase will be used at a vacation home and I'd be surprised if we aren't blown away by the image quality there, too.

I loved this projector. The image is amazingly clear and the sound was very good! This surprised me a lot as I thought I would need speakers but it was actually very loud. The only downside is the size and weight. It makes it very hard to travel with for presentations and what not but for everything else it was amazing!

I researched this product for about 1 year. I was looking for a projector or large TV and I kept coming back to this one. I didn't really want to spend over $1000 but the more I read about this product the more I felt I needed it. I'm a huge movie watcher and I love gaming too and this product is phenomenal for both! I have it hooked up in my apartment living room, which needless to say doesn't get very dark in the day. That's hardly a problem with this projector, the picture is still amazing with daylight coming through the windows. It would be even better if I didn't have it set to ECO mode. Its super easy to use and looks amazing, especially when playing blu-rays like Star Wars!. the 3D also looks great, more like the movie theater experience of 3D than the 3D you get on flat screens. At the moment I don't have a screen so its just projecting on my rough off-white wall and people that see it all say its the best picture they've seen, and I'm running it at about 120". The only quirk I have is that there is no audio output or cable coaxial input, which just means I have to route these through different means. Phenomenal product overall.

Picked this up during a very excellent sale. I had been holding out for a 5020, but ultimately decided it was beyond my budget. This 3020 has proved to be an excellent projector. The 3D is awesome and the 2D is just as great. My only complaint is that during 3D, especially with animated blu-ray's, the fan on the 3020 kicks in to overdrive and it can be a little loud. Other than that is has been great. I have had no issues with picture quality or the lamp (knock on wood).

I had to take an older unit in, still under warranty, and long story short was that I was able to switch this item, upgraded from my previous unit, and I couldn't be happier. The color is fabulous, the 3D capability is a nice addition as well. I'm not a big fan of the 3D but with this unit the graphics don't seem to be all over with the 3D like you would see in the theater. It's very easy to use in my opinion, it keeps cool, has built in fans that are an added bonus, and a better filtration system with it as well. Overall very satisfied with this unit, and I would highly recommend it to everyone that I know.

This is my second projector (my first lasted over 10 years). This projector is bright and has a quality image. Never thought I would be that interested in 3-D, but the 3-D is fun and impresses friends. 3D content is limited, so hopefully more will become available.
My projector is just on a coffee table with wiring under a throw rug so the set up was easy. I did customize some calibrations in about 15 minutes using a calibration disk, but most everything was good enough out of the box.

Absolutely love this projector!!! It is super clear!! Before our screen was in, we watched a couple of movies on a dark gray wall. It even looked good on it. Brighter of course once our screen was hung. Worth every dollar! Speaker pretty loud but still purchased sound system.

I bought this projector from best buy after researching the best 3d bang for the buck projector for about 2 months, I finally settled on this one, and thanks god I picked a good one out. I bought a 75 inch Ikea Besta with adjustable shelves to set my projector on. I built a home theatre in my bedroom by putting up large curtains and valances along all 4 of my white walls to block out any unesessary reflections from the white paint. The end result was a fantastic picture. I bought a very high quality screen of E-Bay from a seller named, bms2895 This guy has been selling projector screens custom cut to your liking for a long time and he has 100% made in the USA High Definition quality screens for a great price. Just make sure you buy a screen about 6 inches larger then the amount you need to allow for mounting around your viewing area. I just mounted the screen to the wall using small tacs and adhesive backed Velcro made for hanging pictures, you buy those at Target in the picture hanging supply isle. I did not build a pvc or wood black frame, instead I did something easier better and cheaper. I framed the screen using Black Fabric sheets, and it came out great!!! The best part is when I invited my friends and family over to see it there jaws dropped and they were in disbelief thinking you can get a beautiful sharp picture at 115" inches for 1400.00 bucks. I hooked up my Bose to it and its like pure bliss watching movies in there, I rarely go to the theatres anymore. There is only one downfall to this projector. The black levels could have been just a tad darker, but I figured it was not worth it to get the next Epson projector model up (Epson 5020) for an extra 1200.00 I don't think the price on that on justifies a few shades darker on the blacks. The Epson 3020 does have beautiful black levels once calibrated. The only thing I did to get better black was raising the Gamma to 2.2 and turning Epson Super White mode on. And set the picture to Theatre mode. This projector is amazing. From the Lens to the wall is just over 11.5 FT which gives me a 115" picture.

The colors are very accurate, if you are less than a foot away you can see lines from the projector but further than that they disappear. The iris is a little aloud you can hear it like when you first turn on the PS3 when it goes to a dark scene that is dead quite but if there is a dark scene with action and noise you can't hear it. It says you can't game on it but my son and I have our XBOX 1, PS3 and XBOX360 connected to it and it plays amazingly good!! Playing football is mine blowing and watching movies is awesome. The only bad thing now is every kid in the neighborhood wants to come to my house to watch movies. I guess I should start charging. I highly recommend getting the 4 year Geek Squad protection for $299 that is the cost of 1 bulb. The projector is extremely bright so ECO mode in a dark basement room with no windows works perfectly. You can see just fine with the lights on even with the ceiling light that is about 5 foot in front of the projector even in ECO mode. But being a projector the darker you can get the room the better the blacks will look.

Ok, ok.... I know what your thinking, this thing can't be that great! But I'm probably being one sided cuase I have wanted to buy a projector for a long time now and i'm just really excited. It was really easy to hook up, but it did take some time, if you really want it to come out good your going to have to measure a lot, like screen placement, distance from the screen to projector ect. I did read several reviews about this model having an issue making noises from the auto Iris but I purchased this item any way cause I figured that my volume was going to be high anyway and I don't think I would be able to hear it, and to be honest I haven't heard it at all with the volume high or low, but the while family loves it.

Wasn't sure what I really wanted for my application. Sales rep at store was excellent, answered all my questions. He explained the main difference in projectors and price. I went with this one. Slight upgrade for me and a few more dollars. It was on sale, so that helped with my decision. Picture is super clear, has all the necessary connection ports (that was my big concern in looking at different projectors). I am very glad I went with the projector I did and I got the warranty which includes your first "bulb" replacement" (that almost paid for warranty). Very Happy!!
