One of the great sequels
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nothing new can be written about "Evil Dead II," though that's no fault of the film itself. Rather, it's the fault of the film's legacy: it's gained such a following over the past three decades that so many people have had some sort of say or another about it. So maybe it's better to focus on what the film stands for - that is, it's the elusive sequel that doesn't merely repeat the formula of the original but actually reinvents the formula entirely. Where the first Evil Dead was an impressive foray into the horror genre, making the most of a super-duper limited budget and resources, Evil Dead II is an exercise in excess: more blood, more gore, more screams, more characters, more more more! It throws in everything but the kitchen sink (actually, I think that gets thrown in too, at one point) and winds up with some iconic moments and one hell of a performance by Bruce Campbell - one that's still beloved all these years later, and with good reason. Evil Dead II stands on its own (thanks in some part to the opening five-minute recap of the first film) and also functions as the strongest entry in one of the most endearing (and enduring) horror franchises of all time. The Blu-ray is excellent, with a great picture and wonderful supplements, including a riotous commentary track and new (at the time of release) feature-length documentary about the making of the film. Then there are some lovely vintage featurettes thrown in for good measure. A must-have in any horror fan's collection.

One of the greatest horror films of all time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Evil Dead 2 is one of the greatest horror films of all time. The first film didn't exactly know what it wanted to be, comedic or serious. This one said, why not combine both perfectly, and it did just that. This is the film that made Sam Raimi who he truly is today. And of course let's not forget Bruce Campbell, of which this made him a independent film and iconic screen star. You want spooks? You get them here. Tired of all the new age horror film counting on CGI effects to try and horrify audience? All practical effects here to make everything look realistic, fun, and awe you all at once. What a satirical take on old horror films? You get 85 minutes worth. It's close to perfect as perfect that horror films could ever get. The only two complaints I would have about this film is the length, 85 min is much too short, I could've gone with 20 minutes of more mayhem, and that the plot is thin and the way that Raimi had to recap everything makes the film look more like a remake than a sequel, but due to copyright laws and which studios own which film, he couldn't help that. This movie is rewatchable as rewatchable can get. It never gets old. With this 25 Year Anniversary Blu-Ray, you get the perfect set of special features anyone could ask for. Commentary with Bruce and Raimi, the journey to how they got there, interviews, a look on how they did all the makeup effects, and stopmotion, a look at how it became a cult-classic phenomenon, and more. Only thing missing is deleted scenes, and while I don't normally care about that, I think they would've been fun to watch here. If you are wanting to see the new Evil Dead, and think it is only necessary to watch the first one, think again. you need to include this as well. A great horror movie buff buy.

A Classic Horror Must See
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before director Sam Raimi made the Spider-Man Trilogy, he was responsible for another trilogy, a low budget balls to the wall trilogy made up of Horror film 'The Evil Dead', Horror/Comedy 'Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn' and Adventure/Comedy 'Army of Darkness'. 'Evil Dead 2' begins by essentially remaking the first film. Instead of 5 friends on a trip to an isolated Cabin in the woods, now it's just Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend Linda. When they reach the cabin, Ash discovers a tape recorder left by the previous owner, an archeologist who found and translated the book of the dead. By listening to the professors translations, Ash accidently re-unleashes the evil that has been awakened and Linda becomes the first victim. As Ash desperatly tries to escape he discovers that he's now trapped, due to the destruction of the bridge and attempts to barracade himself inside the cabin. Things get worse when the professors daughter, her boyfriend and two hicks show up looking for the professor and his wife and find a bloody, trashed cabin instead. Believing that Ash murdered them, the four lock Ash in the basement, unaware that the professor has a secret of his own buried down there with him. After learning the truth about what is going on and loosing one of their own, the surviving three team up with Ash in an attempt to survive the night, only it's not going to be that easy. 'Evil Dead 2' is a fun, bloody and entertaining horror/comedy with a unique style of it's own. The camera movements and angles are expertly done to give the unseen evil a characteristic. The film also has a solid protagonist who's well praised in the horror community. If you're looking for a good horror film to get away from the garbage produced today, check out this movie.

So many extras, Behind the scenes are wheres its at. Commentary is down right hilarious. Any Evil Dead fan or horror fan or Bruce Campbell fan should get this movie. Its the best edition of this movie. There is even a photo gallery that has so many never before seen pictures. It was a blast to watch and re-watch time and time again.

AWESOME!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best Evil Dead movie in the series. I think it's the most memorable - Ash's hand goes evil, he chops it off, then replaces it with a chainsaw! Lots of violence, but in a light, fun way. It's just a great movie over all. Bruce Campbell has such beautiful bright white teeth and is so charismatic. The moose head is adorable as well. However, it leaves you on a cliffhanger that demands that you see the third one. This set is especially nice because it looks like Necronomicon and screams when you press the eyeball.

A sequel far better than the first
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is probably my favorite horror movie. It has a perfect blend of edge of your seat horror and 3 Stooges-esque slapstick humor. In fact, the dark humor of this movie tends to add to the horror because it is just so bizzare. When every object in the cabin starts laughing at Ash is a perfect example of how the humor and creepiness work hand in hand in this film. Bruce Campbell is at his best here as well. For the dvd, there is a neat making of feature and audio commentary from Bruce and director Sam Raimi. This is deffinitely a must have for any horror fan.

Classic horror movie
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As the above poster said the PQ is good and so is the AQ. Much better then the first release which was done by Starz/Anchor Bay. Don't expect to be blown out of the water but overall the PQ is very good. For a catalog title they master they used was very good. Some crush on the blacks but shots done in sunlight are very detailed. If you are a Evil Dead fan then grab this while it is cheap. A worthy upgrade if you have the DVD or the first blu ray release.

Evil Dead Fans
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally saw the Evil Dead remake before seeing the original. I was hooked after watching both. Then I moved on to Evil Dead 2, this movie. It holds its creep factor from both movies, but this one adds a sense of humor and satire. The entire time you watch this film, you go from being terrified to laughing to think "what the heck?" If you're an Evil Dead fan, you should make sure and check out this sequel.

Best in the series.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although "The Evil Dead' is scarier and "Army of Darkness" is funnier, I feel that "Evil Dead 2" is the best film overall in the series. The violence is insanely over-the-top and the slapstick humor is very funny. The DVD has some nice special features, including a documentary on the special effects ("The Gore, the Merrier"). Highly recommended.

The best movie of the Evil Dead Trilogy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bruce Campbell really began to get his stride here. There is just a perfect mix of horror and comedy in this movie. Sam Raimi hasn't strayed too far as a director since, with his hammy style. You will love this movie. This has been a favorite of mine for a long time.
