Good Futuristic Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a clever movie. I think it's really interesting to see an example of human interactions with AI. The movie explores how a relationship could potentially build in a way that seems plausible. I also enjoyed the constant tension with Oscar Isaacs character as you try to decide if he's friend or foe, or something in between. It's nice to see a movie that's not using the mold Hollywood has been fond of lately.

The Thrill And Horror Of Romantic Uncertainty
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ex-Machina is a science-fiction horror film that, like so many others, plays on fears of the future: of artificial intelligence, the blurred line between human life and it's imitations of online surveillance shaping our experiences. A very tense, intelligent play written by Alex Garland. Many plot twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat guessing and hoping. Never received anywhere near the notoriety it deserves.

The Buildup in Intense!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Real Good Sci-Fi Flick & really different! kept you in suspense the entire film as it kept building & building! then it just explodes at the end, in a good way of course! You knew it was coming, but you didnt know! I highly recommend this movie. I think this movie is a hidden treasure bc alot of people may not know or realize how good this movie is! Plus one of my favorite songs of all times makes a cameo "Get Down Saturday Night" by Oliver Cheathem!

Leaves you wanting more
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are times when this movie does show us just how vulnerable we are to persuasion especially when we are drawn closer by the beauty that is right in front of us and than there are other times where you need to stop and ask demanding questions from others who are watching with you. But does the ending leave you yearning for more or second guessing you decision to watch this. Either way find out for yourself.

Smart and Suspenseful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Alex Garland's AI thriller is an astonishing work for a first time director. In a film during which a vast majority takes place in a secluded compound and is marked by stillness, he never misses a beat or drags the pace. This is enhanced by near perfect work from his actors, led by budding superstar Oscar Isaac and flanked by Domhnall(sp?) Gleeson and Alicia Vikander, all 3 of whom should have long flourishing careers as actors.

Lovely special effects, possibly disturbing story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I dinged this one star for the ending. It was very believable, but a bit too dark for my tastes. If you've seen Chappie, the ending of that is more of what I was hoping for, honestly. If you enjoy a good sci-fi, like the thought puzzles of artificial intelligence, I do recommend this, pretty highly. I didn't see it in the theater, and was not spoiled on the details, beyond the trailers, so it was a good ride.

Great movie!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With a rotten tomatoes score of 93% and some great special effects, this film will be at the very least an "interesting" watch. Definitely for those that prefer a more cerebral approach to story telling, appreciation for sci-fi is also assumed. As far as the technical aspects, the film itself comes from an original 4k transfer so this is NOT an upscaled remaster, in other words...this is worth your money.

Future Cult Classis
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw this movie in theaters and waited for the 4k version before taking the plunge. This movie looks amazing in 4k and the movie itself is awesome. It makes you question what you think you would do if you were put in the same situations presented in the movie, and because it only has 3-4 characters, each person is developed and full of backstory. It manages to draw you end by making you question yourself.

Alicia Vikander is fascinating in this sci-fi gem.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A stylish, engaging and smart science fiction thriller that pulls you into its story and doesn't let go, filled with stellar performances, great cinematography, but above all, an exceptional performance by Alicia Vikander. She is simply fascinating in her role. Rarely do you see a science fiction film like this one, so if you like "Blade Runner, "2001"--thought-provoking films, check it out. Also, it's at a great price!

Love this Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keeping this review quick, because you can go to any review website for a more in-depth review of the movie. Ex Machina is a beautifully done movie about artificial intelligence that has a rather solemn feel surrounded by thrilling sense of unease and not know what is going to happen. In my opinion, I like the move a lot because the creators made a compelling story with a simple setting and only a few characters.

Video and Audio 5/5
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is very much gray and whites in this film requiring luminance and contrast to be spot on. Both are. Excellent picture. Video 5/5. None of the scenes require much bass, most of the sound is vocal. The voices are clear, sharp and easily discernible. Audio 5/5.

Fascinating
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A little dry and confusing at first. To help sweep you right up to the real part of the movie going on later. It is a fascinating piece of work and a look into our technology based future. And the ending may be satisfying or a disappointment depending on your outlook of the overall picture going on here. A futuristic made human being may remind us of our own feelings and we should remember that.

Philosophical Sci-Fi
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Many feel the question of will man create his own demise in a self-aware machine is somewhat answered in this movie. The plot is similar to a Kirk/Spock Star Trek episode. This one's answer to what will a self-aware machine do next is simply kill its creators. There is minimal bloodshed and subdued, but well crafted special effects. Not an edge-of-your-seat thriller, but more of a thinking man's thriller.

Down to Earth Sci-Fi
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great movie with interesting sets and spectacular scenery. The casting is fantastic and the acting is first rate. With each character trying to out-wit and out-maneuver the others (each starting to be aware of what might be really going on at different points in time,) the movie is quite fun to watch. Bear in mind that you came into it last as a viewer ... who will be played ? See it. You will (most likely) like it.

Excellent Dark SciFi
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not an action film, so if that is what you are looking for, you will not find it here. It is an interesting film about technology and the AI that is coming (sooner than some think). It contains only 3 main characters and most of the time, only 2 at a time are in a scene, and takes place entirely in a remote research lab. During the course of the film, the characters try to determine if the AI robot is truly self aware.

Creativity Win and Loses
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The film has to be one of the most original films of 2015. The story itself has probably been done before, but it's the execution that really sets the film apart. If you like anything Kubrick has done then odds are you'll like this one too. The sound is surprisingly active through out this film to a point where the ground shakes, but mostly happens with the music. Extras are pretty detailed.

4K disc does not work
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this movie and have seen it several times. However, I recently upgraded to a 4K television and player (both from Best Buy, very happy with those!) and the Ex Machina 4K disc WILL NOT PLAY at all...just gives you a blank screen with no ability to pull up the title menu or play the movie. I have tried three separate copies from Best Buy (one online, two in-store) with the same result, and even just purchased a brand new copy from Amazon with the same effect. Really wish someone at Best Buy would contact the manufacturer of this disc to find out what's going on, or at least stop selling it to customers (not slamming Best Buy at all...I'm a loyal customer and the folks in the store have been very helpful!).

High Expectations not completely met...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I took a huge chance on this movie, mainly based upon the previous reviews that I had read on-line. Did it live up to the hype? Not completely. However, that's not to say that this was all that terrible. In a lot of ways, this movie reminded me a lot of the original theatrical release version of the now-classic Blade Runner. The story is similar. The pacing is similar. However, it lacked action. The story heavily relied on state-of-the-art CGI, a lot of coarse language & sensual content. The movie was filled with your typical stock characters, dialogue and conflict. There really wasn't much overall development to make this as nearly compelling as Blade Runner. The action wasn't as strong - with one exception. Alicia Vikander's performance was nuanced with many layers. Whenever she was on screen, she was absolutely compelling. It just felt like an Independent film that poured the majority of its budget into the visual effects. As if it were a great idea that wasn't properly developed or executed. It was a decent movie. It just fell a little short of my expectations.
