Fitbit used to track steps

I’m satisfied with the Fitbit but noticed sometimes when I just walk through a room it doesn’t pick up the steps. Also if you shake your arm it sometimes count those as steps taken. It’s impossible to sync with my iPhone. Read the directions and nothing works.
