Free Guy had a difficult position to take, being a video game movie in 2021. We've had several movies take on the genre such as Ready Player One (based on the novel) but with so many genres of games, it's difficult to have a movie universally accepted with all of the different tropes even within its own genre. Free Guy takes the Battle Royal genre and takes a spin on it with a story involving two young game developers that suspect a large corporation may have stolen their code. The comedy is good but largely for a teen and above audience, something the Battle Royal genre caters to anyway. Ryan Reynolds performance is great as is Taika Waititi who steal the show. So while it's not my favorite movie, it was a good time and worth watching a few times.

One of the more fun and original films to be released in years.

This is a fun romp through a gaming world environment, that even creates a surprisingly emotional trip for many of its characters. Even though it’s hard to feel much sympathy for synthetic people that can be killed within the game (and be resurrected, unharmed, the next day!), this movie with Ryan Reynolds has enough RPG (role-playing game) & software geek-speak to make everything seem consistent and real enough for its characters throughout the movie. Taika Waititi plays an evil corporate CEO in the “real world” that is humorously over the top, but adds to the feeling that it’s “only a computer game;” so, even younger children shouldn't be excessively disturbed by the dramatic actions of characters in most of this movie. And, there’s even an endearing love interest woven into this sweet plot; along with a true excess of CGI effects in almost every frame.

This was a fun movie to watch. It was a little confusing at first until you got further into the movie and were able to understand more what was really going on. It's about a video game called Free City which is a very popular online, open-world game that people can enter virtually. Guy (Ryan Reynolds) is a non-player character meaning he is part of the game and not a virtual player from the outside world. He meets Molotov Girl (Millie from the outside real world) inside the game and thinks she is the girl of his dreams. He helps her on a quest to prove that the source code she helped to develop with others for another game was stolen and used to create Free City. There are great special effects, plenty of action, loads of comedy and romance all wrapped together. Ryan Reynold was hilarious as always, and Taika Waititi as the bad guy was also really funny. Overall, it was a fun, feelgood movie to watch and very entertaining.

If you have not seen Free Guy and have hesitated in looking into the movie, go ahead and purchase this movie. Ryan Reynolds does nothing new in this movie, that he hasn't already done, however, the story is very interesting and for Ryan, this is a very clean movie with comedic fun. Disney does take some liberties in this movie and you will know what I mean when you see them. Cameo appearances are fun in this movie. Jodie Cromer and Joe Keery did great jobs in the acting and making their characters a believable relationship. I give it 2 thumbs up and highly recommend this movie.

Free Guy is a highly enjoyable movie. It has aspects of Ready, Player One, The Truman Show and Grand Theft Auto among other things. The role is perfectly in Ryan Reynolds' wheelhouse and he makes the most of it with great support from Jody Comer. The "characters in a video game" setting works very well. The 4K HDR picture is bright and highly detailed and the Atmos soundtrack is full and very immersive. If you have a decent surround sound system you will find sounds moving all around your. This movie is highly recommended.

I purchased this steelbook for Free Guy day 1 release and I was very impressed. The steelbook artwork is plain and simple and the inside artwork and the disc artwork is clever. The overall transfer for this movie looks amazing with a perfect blend of light and dark colors. The movie itself is one of the most surprising movies of 2021. I went into it thinking it would suck but Ryan Reynolds does it again with a lighthearted, action packed, and hilarious movie that I think you will enjoy! I’d give this Best Buy exclusive a 10/10

I saw this film at the local theater, and absolutely knew it was a story I must have in my collection. It can be compared to other films in its content and narrative. But, it blends them all together extremely well. "Free Guy" challenges how people can act with abject cruelty online and while playing video games. Honestly, the attitude the film takes is one I personally share. It was one of the top five films I have seen in the last few years.

I wasn't sure about this movie at first and probably should've waited until this movie was available for streaming for free but I like Ryan Reynolds and decided I wanted to give it a try to watch. So I waited until this movie came down in price and upon buying it and watching it, I was thoroughly surprised and actually entertained by this movie. This was a good movie and think if anyone purchases it to have the physical disc in their possession, they won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed Free Guy! There was a decent explanation for why Guy, the NPC, was beginning to do things on his own in the game, and I felt the story outside of the game was just as good as the one happening in the game. Ryan Reynolds is hilarious as usual, but the rest of the cast did a great job as well, and the portrayal of a multiplayer online game was spot on, with actors randomly jumping around, just running into walls, etc. Just perfect!

Another movie that has a gorgeous steelbook and the movie itself is darn good, another gem from Ryan. The steelbook isn't saturated with too mamy colors or designs which gives it a very clean look. I guess more could have been added to the back of the case but sometimes less is actually more. I am 100% satisfied with this gorgeous steelbook and even repeat viewings of the movie have been enjoyable too! Easy 5 star's in my opinion!

Great, brain turned off fun. Especially for fans of gaming. Sure, it copies many previous film premises. Think, Tron meets Groundhog Day. But, much like other films with borrowed set pieces like Galexy Quest and The Three Amigos, it still feels fresh and fun. It's also nice to watch a modern movie without being preached at for 2 hours...

Enjoyable from start to finish. Refreshing to have an idea for a movie these days that's not a copy or remake of previous films. Ryan Reynolds is excellent in not only being the lead, but the comis relief as well. I don't knkw how he does it and makes it look so easy too. One of the more fun kinds of movies to see in years.

This movie is a must! Movie story is a big fun to the point I was watching without blinking my eyes. The movie describes how the online gaming is now part of of our daily life in which we make new friends and play with them without knowing their real names. It was worth buying it specially with steelbook cover.

This is a review of Best Buy's delivery, not the actual movie. This matters because this is a SteelBook and getting it to consumers without damage to the case is not easy. The SteelBook was packed in a padded envelope which looked flimsy (I was expecting a cardboard case). I was pleasantly surprised to see that the SteelBook was undamaged. No dents or damage at all. Good job Best Buy!

Wasn’t sure what to expect. Didn’t get to see this in the movies, but really enjoyed this as you get the typical Ryan reynolds deadpool style of comedy. (Which he is really good as deadpool) he much more of a person in this rols and alot the video game references are pretty hilarious and builds of the world are pretty cool. Pretty good, had a fun time with it.

What a fun popcorn film! Seriously one of the most original films to come out of Hollywood in a long time! Ryan Reynolds is definitely in his element here as a video game character who begins to attain consciousness. Jodie Comer is one of the programmers who brought him to life. Such a fun film with lots of cool surprises!
