Two smart Best Buy experts came to our home, evaluated our system, made recommendations and answered lots of questions. Followed up in store a few weeks later. I particularly appreciated their willingness to patiently explain all the alternatives, both simple and complex, and not to push too hard to sell us the most sophisticated solution. I felt their answers were honest, they were patient about explaining things, and they really cared about getting to a result that would make us happy. More than worth the $99 consultation fee, which was applied against what we purchased. Usually I shop around for the best price on everything -- in this case I was so grateful for the help that I didn't even try to find lower prices on any of the components. (Of course I knew Best Buy's prices would be in the zone, but you can always do better somewhere somehow.)

Our tech was helpful with technical info. We ended up spending a lot more than we intended. The services offered by this division were great as far as they go. What was disappointing was that there is another division that actually gives design help at a higher service fee. As they were not local we would have to had to pay their travel expense. This service is the only way to get a real quote as the store can only give estimates. You more or less have to have the consultation if you are doing an extensive home theater. The cost is subtracted from the final invoice as a refund.

The consultant let me know his progress to our inconveniently-located home. This gave me a chance to work on other things while he was enroute. Once he arrived, he gave me the confidence that the mess of wires and cables actually made sense and that most of the componsents were still useable. Those components that needed to be replaced could be controlled by what seemed like black magic or by my whim. Of course, the route we took will cause me to use two remotes, and I may need my son to help hook up the new purchases, but my system will be giving us another 12 years of service.

The in-store salesperson was very knowledgeable about the products that we were interested, but he suggested an in-home consultation, since we were having remodeling done. He told us that the in-home rep. would come to our home, take measurements and suggest different products that would work best for us. We were told to expect the rep to spend at least an hour with us. The in-home rep. showed up on time and was pleasant. He was in and out of our home within 15 minutes. He didn't measure anything and didn't discuss any products. He ultimately went off the list that the store gave me. At the time of the consult the television that we wanted, was on sale. I told the guy that I could go and purchase the television the next day to make sure that I got the sale price. He told me that it would not be necessary, that he could adjust the price when the time came. When the estimate was emailed to me, the sale price was not reflected. I did follow up with an email stating my disappointment with the price and received a reply that the price would be taken care of. When I was ready to complete my purchase, I sent an email to the guy. NO REPLY! I ended up going back to the store, with my estimate and email stream. The sales people were great. I was told that the system would be changing soon and it should be better.

First time experience with Geek Squad service offerings and all expectations were exceeded. The home consultation was perhaps the $99 I have ever spent. The representative was on time, professional, and spent time understanding what was important to me. A clear itemized quotation was provided in a timely manner, and my $99 was than credited toward the installation. My home theater was installed with the same high level of professionalism. Overall the value created was worth the expense. I highly recommend utilizing the consultation in conjunction with the installation service.

With all the technology changes, I was not up to date on the latest technology advancements in a complete home theater system. The Manager said we can set up a consult. A person will come to your home, look at what you have and help you plan the componets of your system. The cost was $100 but they give you a $100 gift card immediately (before you leave the store). The person was very knowledgeble and up on all the latest technology. He tested all my components, took measurments and accessed what i wanted to do. Then he scheduled a meeting at the store to review his proposal, the equipment and made any changes. I left with the proposal so i could do some research before buying. There was no pressure to buy and i can contact him if i have any further questions or i am ready to purchase. Great service and they really do not try to upsell you, but really give you a plan for a system you will be happy with.
