Geek Squad made recommendations as to best equipment to use for our situation, and on appointed date, technician brought equipment to house, set it up, and wired it all together. He tweaked the speakers for the best balanced sound. Even incorporated into the system our old tape deck and VCR. Set up the universal remote to control it all (with some manual functions still required for the old tape deck and VCR). We had a couple of unusual requirements, but the technician got them programmed into the remote. He spent a lot of time explaining how to use the remote, and even returned in a few days for some "remedial" training. He didn't leave until we were satisfied with sound and picture quality, and comfortable with operation of the remote. Overall, it was a very satisfactory experience. We love the results.

The consultation for the TV, soundbar, etc. was painless. The guy didn't check for studs in the wall, which confused the guys that eventually came to mount the TV (the studs were much farther apart than normal, they discovered, so they had to adjust some things). Other than that, the consultation went well. I happened to get this on sale for free, otherwise I probably wouldn't have paid for it (though I think the price is applied to your purchase if you end up buying a TV from Best Buy).

I am in the process of working on a 50k theater setup. However, I am only getting some quotes and looking around for who I think would do the best work. I had the magnolia people send out some guys and I was still getting some private theater installers to come out as well. All I was looking for was a basic estimate and I made that clear up front. They came out looked at the room for 30 minutes. Made no recommendations beyond what I had put down and one speaker rec which I told them I was not interested in. Then they gave me a baseline quote of around 48k and wanted 5k up front before even recommending room layout, speakers, anything. I am sorry, but I want to make sure you know what your doing before committing money to you. If your design and product selection are bad then I have no intention of using you. This would be like putting money down on a house with no floorplan and just hoping it works out for you. After they left I received calls and emails like crazy trying to get me to put money down so they could start putting together ideas. After about a week of pushy calls and emails I finally had enough. I have since went with another company and I am doing fine. Some people may have blind faith they can deliver, but when spending that kind of money I expect to have a guaranteed quality service. These guys had no portfolio and were showing me random pics on their phones. They had no books ideas to help. They made no input on lighting design, color choices, nothing. They literally took measurements punched them into a laptop and said write me a check. No TY.
