What in the world did people do before you had replaceable air filters? What would happen to the air in your refrigerator if it was not replaced every six months? I know if I put diced or sliced onions inside they still smell up the refrigerator. I replace the filter just in case it really does something and to put an end to the replace now light that goes on each time the door opens to remind you that it needs replacement, Just to play devil's advocate where does all this bad air come from?

this filter is required for my refrigerator. there is no choice. the filter is difficult to install in that the door to the filter compartment is very difficult to open. Also, the instructions for installation are confusing.
