it's watchable but not scary
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big horror fan and also a big fan of the original Friday the 13th film so I was a little sceptical when I first heard this remake was being made. However its by the same guys that did the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake so this calmed my nerves a little bit as I actually enjoyed the TCM remake, nowhere near as good as the original but a very good effort at making the film for a new generation. This is pretty much the same case here, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this film. I watched it with my sister and she jumped quite a bit during the last 30 minutes or so. I liked the story of the brother going back to look for his sister as it added a different little twist on the straight forward story of the original. There are a few familiar faces in the film, Jared Padalecki who stars in the series Supernatural gives a decent performance here as the brother looking for his sister, also Danielle Panabaker, Mr Books movie, is excellent as ever in this slasher film, playing as the girl who help nice boy find his sister lockup in Jason's home. If you are a horror fan this is definately worth a watch, I am now a fan of the original and of the remake. Trust me you won't be dissappointed.

Great remake!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I liked this movie! It wasn't as good as some of the other remakes, mostly because of the cast, but still good. I love all the remakes of old classic horror films. But, I know some people are old school and stuck in thier ways and think they should be left alone. Don't get me wrong, I still love the old ones. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the new ones. The reason I like the recent horror remakes, (Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Last House on the Left, etc.), is because we have better special effects now, better cinematography, better acting (except this one), and more money to put into the film. Plus, with some of them we've been able to elaborate the storyline a bit more, like with Halloween and this one. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is for the acting and the cast all around, other than Jason. The cast was very fake and unrealistic. They look like they picked them out of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog. I know, they're all suppose to be a bunch of immature college kids out partying in the woods before they get killed. But, they went a little overboard in my opinion. I didn't recognize any of the cast members, then again, I don't watch teenie-bopper shows like the OC. I did, however, like the guy that played Jason, he was reminiscent of Kane Hodder. All around though, this film was fun to watch and a great remake. I recommend this to anyone who's a fan of classic slasher films!

Great Remake of a Classic Horror Franchise
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to see this remake when the movie came out and I was really surprised how great the movie turned out. I think it was one of the best horror remakes that I have seen in a long time. I am a huge Friday the 13th Fan since I have all the Friday the 13th Movies on DVD and will also be getting them on Bluray. I think this movie is a must own because it brings a new direction to the Jason Voorhees Character. The new kills were great and just the first 10 to 15 minutes of the movie was crazy which turned out to be the actual introduction. I am definitely recommend people who are fans of the origiinal series to buy this on DVD or Bluray when it comes out tomorrow I know I am. I can't wait for part 2 to come out.

Jason Is Back, more Deadly Than Ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Jason is leaner and meaner than ever. There's method to his madness, and it all makes sense (well, a Jason kind of sense). This particular flick plays it back to Jason's hey-day before he became the Kane Hodder lumbering zombie, and is easily better than everything that came after part 4. In keeping with tradition, the kills are swift and very brutal - and there's lots of them. In short, If you're a long-time Vorhees fan, you'd be mad to listen to the naysayers and not give this a go. The actual Blu ray itself has crystal clear 5.1 HD dolby sound and a flawless picture. Black levels are deep and colours well saturated, with plenty of detail. This version is 9 minutes longer than the cinema version, adding extra plot and some gore. Jason isn't in Hell, he isn't even in outer space (lol). He's back where he belongs at Camp Crystal lake, doing what he does best ;-)

Friday 13th excellent re imagining
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went in to view this film and was extremely sceptical- remakes are very rarely worth the watch. But from the pre credit scene I was hooked. Gorey, graphic and visually intense, with a little insight into Jason- he is easily one of my favorite horror movie characters and in this film he does not let anyone down. Although full of the cliches that make this kinds of film- such as the not so witty on liners before they fight back- With some really rather gruesome death scene's and suspense that could give you a heart attack I would definately recommend this to everyone- my one warning would be- Watch out for the dogs!

An admirable Reboot to the Iconic Franchise
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not keen on re-makes, and being a fan of the originals I wasn't thrilled on seeing this but something drew me to Watch this, and I'm glad I did. This is actually very good not bad but not brilliant it's what you would expect from a Friday the 13th film teens and nasty ways of killing them, Jason is the nastiest I've seen him since the first four, original films and is a fast brutal killer in this one, picture and sound quality are top notch so.If you're a fan I'd give it a go you might just like it!!

Sorry Jack, Jason is back!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Friday The 13th: 29 years later, this remake proves that the saga is an unstoppable movie series juggernaut. This time the effects are mainly done with computers, unlike Freddy vs. Jason and Jason X, which stuck with the traditional special effects methods. In this 'Killer Cut', the movie is far more intense, you even get some of a scene that somewhat details Jason's pyschological trauma. The only downside of the 'Killer Cut' is that the DVD edition is almost 'barebones', you get a featurette, deleted scenes and some traillers. For those who want the movie in theaters buy the Friday The 13th DVD; For those who want something more, buy the Killer Cut on DVD; And for those who want even more, buy the Killer Cut on Blu-ray.

good remake
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this was a good remake of the first few friday the 13th movies and goes over some of what was missed in the origional like jason seeing his mother killed and getting his hockey mask, it also covers teh machette he is famous for using, most details left out of the origionals so there is new content included, also new kills and yes, jason now runs and seems more menacing than the origional films. hopefully they make another one and get jason back on track where the series should have been since everything past jason takes manhatten took the series in the toilet in my opinion. over all a good movie and worth seeing if you love the slasher genre.

Jason Returns
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If I could, I would give this a 3.5, but I figured it deserved a 4 more than a 3. I saw this in theatres when it first came out and decided to finally buy it all these years later. It has a good storyline, but what I don't really care for is it relies (a little too heavily) on jump scares, which isn't always bad, but sometimes it just gets overly annoying. But you should definitely check this out if you haven't, if you're a fan of Friday the 13th.

Friday The 13th 2009
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a true Friday The 13th fan...i loved everything about this movie, i loved that director Marcus Nispel took us back to Camp Crystal Lake aka Camp Blood for a new spin, this movie is for those of the younger generation that didn't get to experience the originals because they were too young to see them when they hit the theater.

Hmmmm, the ending??? Seriously??? An insult.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie was a nice touch to the franchise, but as always, the makers could not finish the movie with a good ending to save their lives (no real pun intended). What person in their right mind would go through all that chaos only to then remove the killer from a woodchipper and drag his heavy @$$ down to the lake?! Who would even think that is a good idea. "Hey sis, let's pull this dude out of the wood chipper and drag your deformed, murdering capter down to the lake." "What! No. Let's get out of here and get help!" "No sis, I think this is a great idea and a perfect way to end the movie too. See, we drag him down there for no reason and then he will come back to life and kill us!" She should have stuffed her stupid brother into that chipper after Jason! Terrible ending to an otherwise ok addition to the series and character of Jason Voorhees.

Naa
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not suspenseful. It's not scary. It's basically your average boring horror movie. You could tell that the "gore" parts were fake. The blood looks like red water. When I want a horror movie, I want suspense, gore and scenes like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning. In that movie, EVERYTHING looks real and it will mess with your mind. That's what I like. And there will be another sequel because Jason didn't die... I would however go ahead and buy it and see if you like it yourself. It may be the most scarriest movie you have ever watched, but it's not up to par with me. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being not scary and 10 being VERY scary, I give it a 3.
