I came upon the Frigidaire FRA054XT7 on Best Buy's site while I was considering replacing an old GE Carry Cool air conditioner that had developed thermostat and drainage issues. The night I was looking at it, it listed for $120 with free shipping, which was a good deal that I planned on getting in the morning. When morning came, the unit price had changed to $80 with free shipping, which was such a great deal that I bought two! Installation was easy in a modern window. Even though the included hardware was sufficient, I always use plastic sheeting and tape to make a vapor barrier on either side of the unit, since the accordion panels are mainly useful for privacy. When facing the unit, the air output tends to blow toward my left, though the ability to direct its air flow is better than average. On the Low Cool setting, it provides a comfortable sleeping temperature in a small bedroom. The Energy Saver mode, which only turns on the fan when the cooling cycle is active, or to sample the air temperature, allows about a 5 to 6 degree spread in the room temperature between cooling cycles. The fan noise level is tolerable for such a small unit. I have a 5,200 BTU unit that is actually quieter because its bigger fan doesn't have to run at such a high speed. Lastly, a thought regarding the energy efficiency of this unit. The FRA054XT7 is an older model that does not meet the newest "Energy Star" standard set arbitrarily by the U.S. Government. The FFRE0533Q1 is the newer Frigidaire model that is "Energy Star" compliant. The current "Energyguide" that comes with new air conditioners shows the expected yearly operating cost in dollars. At $42 a year, the FRA- is $2 more per year to run than the FFRE- model. At such an insignificant difference in operating cost, and factoring the current purchase price of both units, it would take decades for the FRA- to cost a consumer as much over its lifespan as the FFRE- model. The lifespan of any window air conditioner is such that a consumer will never save money by purchasing the FFRE- while the FRA054XT7 is still available at current prices.

We purchased this unit for my daughter's small apartment room in Boston. EVERY window in Boston seems to have this air conditioner so obviously it works! It was easy to install. Cord was a bit short so we were limited on which of two window to put it in. So far so good> Just wish it had a better choice for settings. She does love that remote control! Never has to move off the bed to adjust or turn off! Life is good when you are in college!

I liked the size of the unit, and the ease of operation. It is very quiet

The things I like about this AC is the little remote control. It is so nice to have a remote for the AC. You can set the AC to just the right temperature with the remote. I also like the energy saver feature. I can see this AC saving some money. Great little AC!

I bought the GE equivalent from ABT and tried it at home. The GE one was colder than the Frigidaire but very loud when the air con turned on and off, it woke me up through the night. I returned it and bought the Frigidaire, I am VERY happy with it, the best quality is that like the GE one I keep the fan on 100% but when it needs to turn on the cold, it is very quiet, for the on/off, makes a huge different so I can sleep. We ran it for 10 days straight with no problems.

THis 5000BTU air conditioner is compact, light and Quiet. It is also excellent at cooling.

I purchased this for my daughter's college dormroom. Although my daughter thought it should take the temperature quickly into the 60's. It did it's job and reduced the ambient temp by 20 degrees. Once they got the room cooled down, it has kept up. Only a unit that cost 3 times more could have accomplished more. ..... I would not hesitate to purchase another one.

Definitely works, I'd rate it average. Remote control; cool air; energy efficiency; all the bells and whistles. I'm glad I purchased it.

i live in a 1 bedroom fourth floor apt. it gets very hot in the summer.my old ac. which is in living room could not cool it all.now its winter.great little ac for the money no regrets.

We've never installed an air conditioner before but this one was easy to install without any professional help. It was also easy to remove at the end of summer. It cooled my 1 bedroom apartment.

This was a great purchase. Easy to set up, cools quickly, and great for small spaces. This was worth every penny. If you buy this you will not be disappointed.

Not sure what people mean when they say its loud or that it doesn't cool. I camped in Florida this past weekend and it kept a 160sq ft tent without insulation even quieter on the outside.

Wonderful AC for a small room. Love the remote so I don't have to get out of bed to control it. It's cold, reasonably quiet and a great price.

Picked it up recently on sale at Best Buy for $79.99 only had it a day or so but I like it. AC itself isn't that loud and annoying. Obviously the noise factor can always be subjective and different from person to person but I think it is passable and not that obnoxious. Remote and Digital Temperature gauge is a bonus. Overall if you are looking for an AC for a small room I think this AC will do the job just fine.

I am really impressed with this tiny unit. I had a little trouble fitting this into my 16" wide window; had to actually cut plastic side inserts down to scrunch into window opening. Instructions were kinda confusing as to where to set unit so it slopes outwards. In doing so, I cant close my window down and insert screws from the inside. Other than that, this unit works great on these hot nights. I can actually sleep comfortably now. Energy star rated ..awesome cuz I get an additional SDG&E rebate of $50.00!

We bought this for my son's upstairs bedroom and it does a good job of keeping it cool.

It's a little loud,but I love it so happy I choose this air conditioner.

I normally don't do reviews right after I have purchased something but since it's the summer and people might be considering this item, I thought I would drop a quick note. We purchased this over the weekend after putting in a 6,000BTU unit by Frigidaire that we purchased someplace else. The 6,000BTU A/C's fan on HI was so slow that it took almost 4 hours to start to cool down the bedroom where it was located. The fan in this A/C is wonderful! While there are only two speeds plus an energy saver mode, the room and adjoining bathroom was cooled very quickly. What's even better is that the fan is not loud. The 6,000BTU unit woke up a dead person! If you are looking for a nice small unit for a very reasonable price, I would purchase this. You get a lot of your money. Thanks
