Frigidire isn't what it used to be

The 1st one of these was damaged an I discovered the damage on the back after I installed it when I went to put the foam around the back of it, but it was running and quietly at that The 2nd one vibrates, or I should hums so LOUD that I can't run it in my bedroom. I called Frigidaire to see what they could do for me, but woman on the phone told me it's functioning correctly. I asked how the come the first damaged one was quiet, but she told me again the 2nd one is functioning correctly. It's going back for sure and now more Frigidaire products for me. I should Best But treated me fairly on the exchange for the 1st one so I have no doubt the 2nd shouldn't return be a problem either. I highly recommend if you need a air conditioner you buy something other than a Frigidaire.

    It's going back!

Very disappointed in this unit! Not only did it fail to cool down a 10x10 bed room (after running it all night on COOL and Medium fan speed) I also found myself stuffing folded paper into the front cover to try and quiet the rattling from the vibration this unit makes.. Not only does the cover vibrate, but I too was annoyed by all the gurgling it makes. It's going back today!

    bad styrofoam noise

All room air conditioners are somewhat noisy. I knew that when I purchased this window unit. What I did not expect was the annoying rubbing sound produced from the vibrating styrofoam inside the unit, which purpose I am unsure of. In a bedroom it sounded like someone had a cheap styrofoam cooler rubbing it all night. Not the sound you want to hear while trying to sleep. I returned the unit.

Great air conditioner for a bedroom

Great air conditioner for a bedroom. It definitely helped during the heat wave this year and it cooled the bedroom within minutes. The price was excellent at the time of sale. However, the air conditioner was difficult to set up due to the screws being larger than the holes on the air conditioner frame. I had to buy another set of screws from a hardware store to compensate the pre-cut holes in the air conditioner frame.

    This A/C is TERRIBLE

I bought this a/c last night at my local Best Buy which is an hour away from me. This A/C does not cool, does not drain, and makes the WORST noises I've ever heard. I will be returning this tomorrow. I've already purchased a replacement for it and you can bet it isn't Frigidaire nor did it come from Best Buy! Learn from me- do not buy this a/c!

Great air conditioner for a small room

I love this AC ever since I bought it. It's small but handy enough to cool my 10'x10' quickly... So far I have no complaint on the product...and I hope this would keep on doing its job...i.e. cooling us down during summer!

    NOISY!!

It keeps me up at night. I've had it for a couple of weeks and it's so incredibly loud. It's not the fan, it's this grinding sound that's terrible. I have the bigger unit and it works fine in the other room with no noise. I called Frigidaire and they basically told me to deal with it. I'm planning to take it back.

No idea how this performs due to the faulty design

You can go ahead and ignore the rating I gave to this item because I didn't even get a chance to use it, but the rating is required, so, unfortunately for Frigidaire, it receives all ones.... I went to Best Buy the other day to pick out the 5,000 BTU Frigidaire model my friend has because it blows some seriously cold air (I believe the version he has is older... the controls are on the left side on his). Unfortunately, there were none in stock and I was told the earliest they could order one for me would be about a week away. This wasn't acceptable to me because, as you know, summer is death, and not having an air conditioner is condemning yourself. So, I picked up this 6,000 BTU model, which appears to be a newer rendition. Now, I didn't even get a chance to turn this unit on because I spent over two hours attempting to figure out a way to install it. I'm not really sure where other reviewers get off saying this was "easy to install" or, more cleverly and of my own design, "a real breeze." Yes, it was extremely simple to put together; it took about two minutes. Yes, it was extremely simple to put into the window; it took about another two minutes. The problem I had is with sealing this unit off. In my opinion, this is a design flaw that makes this unit pretty much worthless unless you can get away with putting multiple layers of thicker weather stripping around the unit to insulate it (which looks terrible and/or may not be allowed in some residences -- and might not even work), or want to destroy your window frames with caulk (not an option for me because I just got these windows and frames and they cost quite a pretty penny -- I would strongly advise against doing this anyways, unless you are planning on leaving this in 365 days a year or don't care if your frames look like garbage after you take it out). The problems I had were with the vinyl accordion thing that serves to primarily seal the unit. Firstly, the vinyl does not appear to be attached at the tops and bottoms of the sliding holder, effectively making it nothing more than, say, a shower curtain on a shower. Secondly, the edges of the plastic on the vinyl accordion (that touch the frame) are not even; there is no possible way for this to fit flush against a window (at least the windows I have, which, I assure you, are within the specifications this claims to be able to support). This resulted in a significant amount of gaps that were not able to be filled effectively with the materials provided; like I said before, you'd need to use more weather stripping and probably layer it on top of itself so it could fit snugly, or you'd have to use caulk. Overall, I'd say these issues could easily be resolved if the vinyl accordion was designed so it would be OUTSIDE the window frame instead of INSIDE the window frame. I'm not really sure if their engineering team is full of novices, or what the problem is, but I'd think after trying to seal one of these off with a wood frame window they would have instantly realized that they should have designed their vinyl accordion to be outside of the window frame. My windows are wood frames and this was going into a second story window. I suppose it's possible that one could manage to seal this off effectively without the use of caulk if this is going on the first story because it would be easier to give it a shot from the outside. I tried to get my ladder up to the porch roof so I could try to do it from the outside, but, alas, my ladder was three feet too short, and wasn't very stable at its maximum height. Personally, this looks like a unit that was designed for extremely flat, vertical sliding windows made of metal. I get the impression that they merely added in that this is usable with wood frames as an afterthought or that they simply neglected to take into account differing types of wood frames when they decided to label their product as supporting wood frames. Again, these issues could easily be resolved if they had the vinyl accordion designed to be on the exterior of the frame. I suppose the problem could simply be with my windows, but, as far as I can tell, these are like any other windows I've ever seen in my life; rectangular, about 28 inches or so in width. Granted, I'm no window connoisseur. I'm also going to venture to say the people at Frigidaire aren't, either. PS. The weight of the unit along with the edges on the bottom also dented my frame, which is really annoying because, as I mentioned, I just got these windows put in. Also, the top bar scratched it a bit. If you do decide to try this on wood, you better put a towel down or something to absorb the weight on the bottom and be extremely careful with the top part, unless you simply don't care, of course.

Fan is loud and not rhythmic. Sporadic loud and soft so no sleep benefit of white noise. Does seem to work itself out at some point during night. Do not recommend.

In buying this unit, I traded one problem for another. I wanted to be able to sleep on hot, humid nights so I got this AC. Now, the room is cool and very noisy. This product is not a good choice for a bedroom.

my wife and i needed a window a/c unit for our 15x15 living room so we opted for the 6k. assembled the a/c, set it up in our window, and fired it up for a while with hopes it would chill the living room. end result was that our fan did a better job and much quieter. the unit is loud and chilled a max range of a foot. needless to say this hunk of junk is going back in the morning.

Web site specs don't match item

I selected this item from the web site because I have a small window opening and the on-line specs showed a height of 12 1/2 inches and my window opens to 12 3/4 inches. It DOES NOT fit and the instructions inside the box state that you must have 14" in height. This fact would have been nice to know in advance and should have been correct on the website. What a hassle; I have to pack it back up and return it to the store. Not happy.
