Not what I expected but over all good good movie .

Started really funny and changed pace really quick

I have purchased a lot of merchandise from Best buy and never had an issue until now. The disc was in great shape but the cover was wrinkled like it had been wet.

Kubrick didn't think this whole wide screen thing would take off when he was originally working on the dvd release of Full Metal Jacket. His family didn't want to change what they saw as his artistic vision for his films decided that they would not change any of his films to wide screen while in the dvd format. Had he lived longer the popularity of wide screen would soon become apparent and he would have probably offered wide screen formats on dvd. Since blu-ray is a new format and in keeping with the artistic vision of Stanley Kubrick Full Metal Jacket made the direct transfer from film to blu-ray. Finally I can buy the movie I have always wanted. I hate standard screen for movies and have been waiting for this transfer. WARNING... DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU ARE ANNOYED BY THE LITTLE THINGS You are only as good as your original medium. You can transfer any film format to blu-ray and not have to worry about this silly resolution thing because film records real life in a series of still images that use blobs of color rather than pixels. Because these blobs flow into each other blending color and subtlety its almost a disservice to transfer them to digital medium where they are no longer at the same quality. The other side of this is that film stock quality does vary throughout the ages and sometimes the film starts to degrade. The film looks good but in comparison to films of a later date there is more grain to the film that can be seen. I have a 46" screen with my blu-ray player and you can see the grains. Smaller screen size should make it less noticeable and over all does not detract from the film. There is nothing like a 20" tall R. Lee Ermey asking you what your major malfunction is.

Full Metal Jacket is actually almost two separaate movies, the first deals with the existence of marines during the Vietnam days drilling and training under R. Lee Ermey, the central character not really being Private Joker but Gomer Pyle. And the second deals with the lives during the war, which is mostly an ensemble and Private Joker always seems to play the observer more than really a main character. The movie is a classic, and in my opinion one of Kubrick's best.

Full Metal Jacket is not only Kubrick's best film, but arguably the greatest war film ever made. It is a haunting experience which is truly unshakable, and one of those films that you will immediately want to revisit after you first see it. Highly recommended for fans of Apocalypse Now, Platoon, and other Vietnam classics.

Like Saving Private Ryan 11 years later, Full Metal Jacket has a chilling opening sequence (involving the boot camp ordeal headed by real-life Marine R. Lee Ermey with a terrifying performance from then-unknown Vincent D'Onofrio). The second act, though, is also memorable as those same grunts go from the nighmare of boot camp to the greater nightmare of conflict itself.

Full metal Jacket is A Vietnam war classic. It shows the Training and the Things the soldiers had to under go. I would not recommend this movie for anyone below the age of 12, because some parts are extremely bloody. But i really enjoyed watching this movie, I would recommend this movie to everyone that likes to watch war films.

Recently bought this movie for my dad one of his favorite. It looks so much better in blu ray I havnt really seen it but he says it's a classic! I know it's very popular and sort of a cult classic

This is one of my favorite Vietnam based movies. I owned the DVD version, but the Blu Ray version is the one to get. Excellent audio and visual presentation.

fatntastic move, best of kubrick. the begining is funny as far as the dialog. the end turns gritty and raw. great vietnam flick.

this is a classic. i love this movie and it is a documentry that is reinacted. it also based on a book.

This is the best version ever. Finally release with widescreen, only on blu ray. A must buy.
