This 3-star review is not about the movie itself (which merits a 5-star rating and is one of my favorite Stanley Kubrick films), but rather refers to the Bluray presentation. The picture is rather grainy for 1080p HD! The colors are more vibrant than the DVD version but picture is also darker. The 1.85:1 aspect ratio is also a cropped version of the 4:3 picture on the DVD, so they've cut off the top and bottom to make the picture fill a 16:9 tv: therefore, the DVD actually gives you the full frame of what was shot by Kubrick. If you must have this for your Bluray collection then you might want to get it, but if you already have the DVD you might want to stick with that unless you want the picture to fill up your widescreen tv. The picture quality isn't much better than the DVD.

I had never seen this movie prior to purchase. I am nearly 30. Every time people assemble a list of movies that are "must-see films" this is on there. And every time I say I haven't seen it I get questioned. So, to alleviate this, I bought the Blu-Ray when I saw that it was on sale. It's a good movie, very well done for its time. I will say that the first half of the movie was the best, I liked the drill sergeant the most. Not to say that the rest of the film wasn't well done, it was, it's just that the beginning was the best.
