Lee Ermey was an actual drill sergeant. I have actually experienced in person many of his insults, from my own drill Sargent. The story does reflect how worthless this war was.

Most people will just blind buy a release like this because this is a Kubrick classic ok so that is what I did. I really don't care how you package a Kubrick movie, just release it. I needed the 4K digital copy and like a dope redeemed it without looking into how to redeem it and I got hosed. Don't redeem into Vudu or you will only get HDX , not UIHD. My bad . The art is cool as we see the reflection of the movie in Jokers shades.

    War Classic Restored in 4K

This looked very good in 4K, a war classic from the legendary Stanley Kubrick. The picture quality and HDR shine in the second half of the film. The only issue I had was the 5.1 audio mix was overblown and the mono track not being lossless. However, the mono track sounds very good. If you are going to watch the movie, watch it with that audio track. Steelbook casing looks nice.

Horror of war. From boot camp to battle.

Full Metal Jacket was a "Keeper" for me when it first came out on VHS tape. Now the video format has changed so this is a replacement for my video library. If you want a taste of the horror of war, from boot camp to battle, this movie will move you to rethink any preconceived ideas you may have. Of course, each soldiers experience is unique but, inevitably they will share a common bond. This movie explores them like no other I have seen. Directed by Stanley Kubrick.

At first I didn't know what to expect. It's a movie made in 1987, how is it one of the best acclaimed war movies? I found it here for a cheap price and of course had to see what everybody was talking about. First few minutes into the movie and I was hooked. This movie is different than other war movies as it played through bootcamp in a humorous and realistic way. The only thing I didn't much like was the ending. It could've been better but it was still fun to watch.

Now on the 12th steelbook shipped to me by Best Buy that came in damaged (dented and bent) due to poor packaging, that's including the replacements. Best Buy needs to wake up and ship these metal steelbook cases in BOXES!!!!! Otherwise then that the artwork is amazing and a great classic movie.

Despite a muted color palate and being soft at times the movie looks better than it has before. This could be attributed to the filming locations or maybe a creative decision to capture the mood and make it seem a little more gritty...no new Atoms track, which would have been nice

This is boot camp the way it used to be, before it was toned down and softened up for today's recruits. The scenes with Lee Ermey have become classic lore and once they are over, (you will know when that is) the movie takes a sharp downhill slide. Still a fun movie overall but it just feels like an hollow toward the finish with such a powerful beginning.

Army and war movies are of interest to me and this fulfills that interest. A lot of violence which is expected in a movie like this and not recommended for the young folks. This movie fits right in with my library of war pictures. I would recommend this movie to a friend that has the same interest in war pictures as I do.

    Classic Vietnam War Movie

Running counter to the big, epic war movies, "Full Metal Jacket" follows the experiences of one particular soldier. This is a poignant story of a man (and by extension, all men serving in the armed forces) struggling with identity, loss of innocence, the struggle to survive, and how to remain sane in an insane environment.

Full Metal Jacket is broken down into two two segments: The training at Paris Island and the deployment to Vietnam. The training part is excellent, as you see what there guys have to go though to become Marines. The second part plays out more like a typical Vietnam film; which is somewhat disappointing.

If you like Kubrick you won't be disappointed in this film. Even if you don't like war movies I would still watch the first half of the movie. The first half is basic training and it's unbelievably hilarious. A lot of it was improv and makes for many funny and uncomfortable situations.

This movie was great. Loved the plot line! I would of never watched this movie before, but the beginning was funny, more towards the end, it gets serious. I would recommenced the movie to anyone who like war history and war action.

Dark PTSD look at warfare. With the main character wearing a peace symbol and having wrote "Born to kill" on his helmet. Stanley Kubrick classic looks at the cost of soldiers having to fight a war and the war to keep one's humanity.

I bought this movie for my son who will be studying in Vietnam this summer. It has been years since I saw this movie but remember it as a very surreal take on a difficult chapter in our history.
