Fullmetal is without a doubt one of the best amines of all time. Now, I feel that brotherhood is better because it more closely follows the manga and the manga is one of the better ones out there. With that being said, the differences between it and the source material make it worth watching. I'm not a fan of watching anime of manga that I read because it seems redundant. The overall story is the same, but the differences make it good. So if you never read the manga you'll enjoy it all the more. Even if you watched Brotherhood, this is still watchable. It's so good I even had my mom watch it and ex Mennonite girlfriend enjoyed it. This show covers a range of emotions from joy, sorrow, humor and everything in between. Action is great, but there is plenty of drama in between. The characters make you feel for them. There are plenty of philosophical things in there to make you question what you already believe. Lastly, this series is the perfect length. Long enough to get involved, but not as long as other anime series to make you lose interest. Only knock is that the series ends abruptly due to the company running out of funds to tell their complete story.

This is the first series of Fullmetal, the second being Brotherhood. The animation and voice actors are fantastic. You can enjoy in English or Japanese with subtitles. There are also incredible music for the opening and closing of each episode. We don't make stuff like this in the US and with Fullmetal no longer being on Netflix I suggest getting this while you, the price is amazing too. That said, the story seems to take place far into our future and alchemy (magic) is part of this world though seems to be controlled by government and religion. There is a tenet of equivalent exchange, if you want to make something with alchemy you need to have all the ingredients first. Though they still can't make gold and messing around with people is taboo. The taboo is the heart of the tragic and emotional tale of two young brothers that pay the price for attempting to something they shouldn't have done. The series is about them trying to correct this. There is one story arc that's very tragic but so dramatic I have to watch it over and over. If you're curious about anime, like I was, watch this and you should really enjoy it.

Rarely do animes have great casting for English dubs as usually the Japanese is usually far superior. But funimation knocked it out the park with picking the right Voice Actors for the characters. One of the few series where I prefer the English more than the Japanese dub. It's a great story. Worth buying seriously

FMA has always been one of my favorite animes, and I've held off on purchasing it since I've already seen it several times. However, when I saw it on the Deal of the Day, I just couldn't resist. And I'm so glad I didn't. It is absolutely stunning on Blu-ray and simply enhances the experience. No matter the price, this is a must-have for any anime collector.

The story and emotional depth of this anime far surpasses many I have seen in recent memory. It has enough pacing to keep you intrigued but enough humor and asides to break form intense action and drama. This complete first series may not follow the manga as closely as brotherhood, but it will always be my fave.

I've heard about this anime for many years and didn't have the chance to enjoy it, one of the few I could say I will remember along with inuyasha, ranma 1/2, ghost in the shell, and some others... you will not regret to have a look at this.

While it doesn't follow the manga as strictly as the companion series, Brotherhood, the original FMA still packs an emotional punch that is a perfect balance of drama, action, and comedy all contained within a finite story that will make you keep watching through the epilogue.

One of the great anime series of all time, and perfect for those unfamiliar with the power of the medium. A massive picture quality upgrade over the Funimation DVDs, especially the miserable DVD singles releases.

Really great series and a classic of the mid 2000s in the anime world. I really enjoyed the story line it was well written and the art work is amazing. Great packaging and great remastering of the product, wish they would still sell it.

this series is great its a darker anime that focuses on the development of the character through trails that challenge morals of right and wrong this series will invoke several feelings to the audience, and the series is action packed and memorable

Such a great show. Animation is clean, story is solid, voice acting is great. Series took a turn away from the manga which is why FMA: Brotherhood was created but this still stands alone as a solid show.

I picked this up because I enjoyed FA Brotherhood. (is out of print now) If you're interested in it pick this up before this go oop as well. It is very fun. Hours and hours of entertainment.

Now that the license for the show has expired and will be going to aniplex, it's highly recommended to pick the show up before they release it for over $500 like with Gurren lagann.

Love this show one of the best anime's ever made different than the manga for obvious reasons but great anyway. Officially out of print by the end of july i believe so pick it up.

The Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favorite anime series and if you are a fan of this original manga then you definitely need to check out the brotherhood series as well.

I was looking all over for this series. Finally found it and it was at Bestbuy so I bought and they shipped it to me very fast which I was surprised at.

I lived how the show captured the story of two brothers. I mean who hasn't seen this epic tale? If you watch any of the clips, you'll see what I mean.

One of my all time favorite anime. It definitely leaves you wanting more. The only thing that is better then it is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Wonderful series. Action, story, comedy... this is a compete series. Not quite as good as Brotherhood but still holds its own weight as a top tier anime.
