G-Technology is owned by Western Digital. This is a sturdy, well-built case for a 4TB drive. If I had known that before purchasing this drive I would have left it on the shelf. This 4TB drive was babied. Never bumped or dropped. It failed after 3 months of use. Western Digital is happy to replace it but those of us who use large external drives like this care about the data that is on them. They have third party data recovery referrals who start at $700 and go up to $3,700. From this experience and my past experience - I will never purchase anything made by WD.

for some reason, I neglected to understand that this product was/is primarily intended for compatibility with the apple OS. It works with windows 10- sort of. My PC recognizes the drive under disk manager, but I have a hard time doing anything with it under my drive branch. I have tried it with USB type C thunderbolt and standard USB 3.0.

I had to uninstall and do a redo to get it to work. It's working but not as easy as it should have. Still sometimes hiccups.

Difficult to navigate. Storage capacity showed a little over 3gigs rather than the four terabytes.

Expensive and not convenient. Did not last very long, would not buy again.

It took all of my backup data with it, so thankfully only lost backups, but from such a respected name in Mac accessories, this drive is a terrible disappointment. When it DID work, data transfer speeds were only marginally better than a USB3.0 drive. Tech support from manufacturer has been non existent.

I was really excited to get this to save our pictures on to free up space on our computers and devices. It worked well at first but after about a year (purchased in late 2017) when I try to back up the pictures the backup fails repeatedly. Not sure how to fix. Maybe it it just a cord issue but I have read other reviews that say the same happened to them.

I've owned this for 6 months. It started Ejecting itself during Time Machine backups. Now in a moment of critical need, the drive is unreliable for long term back ups. The Chat rep says trying backing up again today and if it doesn't work he'll set up an RMA. What about my data?

I've had it for 2 months and it's already making a squeaking noise. Apparently that means it's about to fail, and I have to physically take it in to try and get it serviced. Extremely bad since I was in the process of moving a lot of data off of my laptop permanently onto this.

Stopped working with Mac after 3 months. It just stopped being recognized and stopped backing up.

It says easy, it looks easy. It would not convert to PC easily.

Worked great - for about a year and a half. Will no longer allow files on the drive to be edited, and won't allow new files to be written. Haven't even used half of the storage capacity, and the drive already needs to be replaced.

Purchased this hard drive as a backup drive for all my video files. Hardly used it other than to transfer data. The hard drive crashed a week after my return period. Go figure. Great value, but I guess you get what you pay for.
