Constume drama for adults
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems to be one of those shows that relies on excessive titillation in the early episodes to hook viewers.

Graphic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everybody was raving about this so we bought the CDs to watch it. Made it through about two episodes of the first season and didn’t watch anymore. It is too graphic violently wise and sexually

Too graphic for me
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not my cup of tea. Leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination bares all and then some. Barbaric comes to mind. I gave it a star only because I couldn't leave it blank.

Not your typical fantasy show
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I'm writing this for any others who might be like me & unsure on the new packaging and contents of this set. I already had the dvd, and wanted the blu-ray extras but not at the $30+ price for just a few extras. This packaging is smaller than the original (the size of a normal blu-ray/dvd case). The back sleeve doesn't list anything, I couldn't find any write-ups online either, but this DOES have all the same extras and exclusives as the normal set. With the 5 discs I thought it would but my local BB wasn't sure so the associate just asked another employee who said if it doesn't say it on the back , it doesn't have it, and when I wrote BB.com they said no (I guess no one was willing to just open 1 copy to make sure they have correct product info). I actually got my copy from Amazon just because they said it had them and if they were wrong, they would refund me. Much as I prefer supporting my local BB, in this case their service lost them a small sale. As for the show itself, this isn't your typical fantasy show. While it does have some magical elements (like dragons) and your typical fantasy setting unusual names, it is more grounded in reality (our middle ages) than many others. Instead of just being about swordplay and fighting (which picks up later on), there is a good amount of political drama, done by a great cast. Good guys don't always win, bad guys don't always get their comeuppance, but don't always win either. It centers around a number of families who essentially rule smaller areas of the country, all with their own agenda to gain more and more power and hopefully gain the Iron Throne to be king over the entire country. with alliances, backstabbing, and scheming. Whether it works or backfires, the status quo rarely stays as it as for long (at least early on). No character is safe, and not everyone plays by the rules. In the Game of Thrones, you either win or you die.

Great show!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Buy this. Everything is great about it, as long as you like this sort of Braveheart-ish, Lord-of-the-Rings-ish stuff. Great acting, casting, plot, special effects, etc. I honestly can't think of anything bad....I guess the collectible Dragon Egg that comes in this set doesn't make this particular set worth more than the others. But the box is cool (seems almost canvas-like), along with the fact you're getting quite a few other extras for less money than even the DVD set. Come to think of it, I'm not exactly sure why anyone would buy any other set for season one. It has the most content and is the cheapest. Win-win.

Outstanding series, elegant packaging for fans!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The series is simply amazing infused with rich and substantive drama, compelling exchanges while still capturing the essence of the fantastical narrative derived from the novels. With respect to the Blu ray boxed set, the packaging is truly magisterial in presentation, featuring a gorgeous embossed woven material on the exterior of the boxed set which signifies the four houses accordingly. The interior of the set not only houses the Blu Ray/DVD set but also accommodates the paper documentation with respect to each house. Further, the set also displays the simply outstanding dragon egg paperweight which is of sturdy construction while featuring fine detail and craftsmanship. When combined with the added DVD copies, production value information and complimentary first episode of season two, this particular set offers the best of both worlds indeed with respect to presentation and content. Highly recommended!

Better than Lord of the Rings
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Game of Thrones is just what you would expect from HBO. It is full of great acting, great plots and left me wanting more episodes. No, I'm not a shill for home box office but I like most of what they put on their network. Game of Thrones has everything you would want in a fantasy world where winters last as long as an old dude on perpetual viagara. Actually that isn't that long so their winters last a lot longer, a decade or more and frozen guys come back to life and wolves eat arms and heads get separated from their owners. Sisters and brothers living in sin and dragons are born in a funeral pyre. Yeah, G.O.T. rocks. Get it. I watched the entire series in a day and a half. Now my wife won't let me get HBO for the second season but such is life in these tough economic times. The only drawback is the fact there aren't enough extras in the box set. A minor complaint admittedly. We just bought the books now so I personally recommend getting this set of DVD's. Get the blu ray discs. I can't even watch regular DVD's anymore. In any case it was worth every penny I paid for it which was no pennies since it was on a gift card but still i would pay real cash money for this set of DVD's. Take my word for it.

Game of Thrones - Season One
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Game of Thrones is a well-acted show with great sets, great costumes, great visual effects and interesting storylines with unexpected plot twists. Based upon George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of books, it's been nominated for and has won numerous awards and is, without a doubt, for mature audiences. Season one is apparently based on the first book in this series, "A Game of Thrones". I haven't read the books so I cannot say how strictly the show adheres to the book. I have heard, however, that it is a near-faithful adaptation. Despite all of the accolades that the show has received, there are some issues which may make viewers who have never seen the show think twice before purchasing this season one set. First, there is a lot of graphic violence. While the setting of the show, a mythical land of kings and knights, dragons and dark forces, would seem to indicate that a certain level of violence is to be expected, some of it may be too intense for certain audiences. Second, there is an abundance of graphic interpersonal situations and full frontal nudity, both male and female, though more female. Third, there is a lot of vulgar language. For me, this is the biggest problem with the show. It's not that I have a problem with occasional foul language, it's that the words seem too contemporary for a show that is seemingly set in a certain era. Every time one is used, it pulls me out of that fantasy world. It breaks my "willing suspension of disbelief". Perhaps it's just me, but if they had created words, like Battlestar Galactica's FRAK or Farscape's FRELL, then I might not get that jarring feeling. Who knows. Finally, my biggest gripe is not with the show itself, but rather with the box set of the season. The season consists of 10 episodes and there are 5 discs in the set. There are only TWO episodes per disc which means that you have to get up and change the disc EVERY TWO EPISODES. This is NOT conducive to binge watching. Sure, there are extras on each disc. There are character profiles on disc 1 and behind the scenes documentaries on disc 5. Aside from the episode commentaries, however, the additional extras are the same on all discs. This could have easily been a three disc set (5 episodes on disc one, 5 episodes on disc two and all extras on disc three) but I feel that the 5 disc format is used so that more money can be charged for the box set. With that in mind, I advise waiting until it goes on sale for less than $10. All in all, I'd say that if you enjoy the fantasy genre and don't mind some adult situations, then Game of Thrones - Season One might just be worth checking out.

AWESOME!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to become lost in a story without committing to the 5-book series, this is the way to go. I did happen to read George R.R. Martin's entire series, but whoever was responsible for condensing his first book into this season 1 story was a genius. The actors were cast perfectly, and the story is very close to the book without the minutiae. This is definitely not for the kids, but a rollicking good time for the adults!

A near perfect release for a near perfect show.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very rarely do Blu-ray releases get an exclusive set thats worth the extra price but sometimes one comes out that is a must own. This set is perfect for a collector or just someone who loves the show. It fits nicely on a shelf and thought that went into making the dragon's egg and including the dvd and digital copy version as well make this release worth every penny. If you haven't watched GoT yet you need to sit down and watch it. It is one of the most engaging shows on air right now and consistently impresses.

5 stars for the show
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 5 star review is based on the show itself, which is tremendously good. I wanted to make a note about this particular product. This set does not include any extras whatsoever, it is only the original episodes from season 1. No behind the scenes footage or commentary. Hopefully, this will help those of you who prefer the extra content. I myself dont find it crucial, so I picked this up at a great price, and its well worth it.

Renews my faith in television...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.FANTASTIC series and show. This is definitely a great show to own because if you love it, you will want to watch it more than once. Plus, this set gives you 3 options to view (blu-ray, DVD, and digital). This show will also amaze you with picture and sound quality. HBO makes beautiful sets that justify the (high) price tag, though BB had the best price. And to note, on an item like this, I feel condition of the packaging is very important. I have ordered similar sets from other retailers, and I am often disappointed when they arrive with beat up slipcovers or broken cases. BB actually shipped it as it should be, and it arrived in perfect condition!

"GAME OF THRONES" FIRST SEASON BLU-RAY BOXED SET
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE VERY FIRST SEASON OF "GAME OF THRONES" IS BY FAR THE VERY BEST OF ALL THE SEASONS. ALL OF THE CHARACTERS ARE STILL ALIVE INCLUDING ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTORS - SEAN BEAN. I HAD THIS FIRST SEASON ON DVD BUT HAD PURCHASED ALL THE OTHER SEASONS ON BLU-RAY IN THE SPECIAL BOXED SETS. THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD PRICE FOR THE BOXED SET BLU-RAY THAT I JUST HAD TO BUY IT EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY HAD IT ON DVD. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE TELEVISION SHOWS OF ALL TIME. THANKS HBO!!

More Twists, More Wannabe Throne Sitters
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. And so we've arrived at Season 5. Wow! A great package overall if you're looking to save over the Blu-ray edition with this DVD version. It comes in a nice chipboard design with the discs neatly organized. As for the season itself. The jump from Season 4 to Season 5 is quite a doozy if you've arrived at this point. Apparently considered as not well received compared to the previous season, but there plenty more twists, turns, and shocking moments any GoT viewer has come to expect. Overall, a must buy for either DVD or Bluray if you're a fan of the show so far.

Beautiful Case!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm assuming at this point you're already familiar with the show, so my review is purely for the steelbook. It is gorgeous! Unfortunately the magnet is on the cheap side and wholly unnecessary (it would have been better if they'd embossed the case frankly) but still, if you love this show and want a nice case to show it off in this is the case for you. The only thing I don't like about it is that they haven't made one for each season yet (only the first two). A beautiful addition to any steelbook collection.
