It sounds like a fore alarm and it beeps about every 15 seconds until you remove your food from the microwave. There is unfortunately no volume or mute option on this model. If you are sensitive to noise, I would highly discourage this. There are other brans that have a mute function on thier machines for less money and work even better.

By month 7 it went completely dead. GE service is ridiculous, the earliest service is June 5th. I'm not going to have a microwave for over a week!? What a great way to discourage people from claiming their warranty. Will not buy GE small appliances ever again.

With bright flaslight able to see it now, getting close enough, it appears a keypad is hidden there. Able to use day or night with a good flashlight. One star is generous for this brilliant GE contraption.

It is a serious decrease in Quality over the interceding six years.

The microwave is much better than I expected. It has a lot of preset features that make the microwave easy to use. I highly recommend this MW especially if you can get it on sale.
