    I purchased this on Black Friday as a gift & my old one died on Christmas Eve so I started using it. At first, it seemed okay but then I would put something in it like a cup of tea & press 2 & it would say "FOOD"! I kept trying different numbers but kept getting "FOOD"! So I decided to buy a different company & one was supposed to be a genius setting so I put a cup of water in & it was in there for about 5 minutes. So I stopped it & went to touch the handle & it almost burned my hand! I had to use an oven mitt to take it out. Then I went to return it & they said they would order this unit again thinking I had a dud. So once I got it, it worked okay for a few days & now its gone back to saying "FOOD"! So I just unplug it open the door plug it back in & press a number to make it work. It's a real pain but what can I do? UGH!!!!!

    After a year and a half of use the door stopped working. Up til now it has worked fine. Past the 1 year limited warranty. Unfortunate.

    Started making strange vibration after warranty

    Bought this for the office on April 28th, 2016. Today, May 3rd, 2017 it started making a strange vibration, right after the 1 year warranty ran out. Seems like it is on its way out.

      Hello Stephen - we are sorry to hear that your microwave started making a strange vibration noise. Some normal operating noises that a microwave makes includes a dull thumping sound or hum while cooking at power levels other than high. When using a power level other than HIGH or 10, the magnetron tube cycles on and off to obtain the lower power. This cycling of the magnetron tube causes this dull thumping, pulsating, or humming noise. We hope this helps! NANCYatGEA GE_Appliances

      Hello Ligia - this is Nancy at GE. This microwave is not approved to be built into a cabinet. It does not offer an optional compatible trim kit. We offer other models from which to choose that can be built in, such as the PEM31SFSS. I hope is helpful! GE_Appliances

    In Less than 3 Years the Door Switch is broken the Black plastic part is broken. I expect the Microwave to work for at least 5 years Very disappointed. The only option is to throw away the Microwave Just because I can’t open the Door. How silly is the Quality department at GE. Model: JES1145SH1SS Serial FR25XXXXA.

    Bought brand new, but is defective. Best Buy won’t accept a return past 15 days and GE doesn’t carry replacements parts for it, so I have to contact a separate number to get help.

    Don't Buy! Interior Paint Bubbles and Peels!

    Save your money and buy something that will hold up. The interior roof has several large spots where the paint is bubbling and peeling on the protuding points and several smaller spots doing same on the flat portion of the roof after only a few years of limited/normal use.

    GE customer service failed to provide service. I needed a piddly replacement part and was met primarily with deflection tactics. I gave them 3 opportunities and they just couldn't do it. Thankfully I was able to return it.

    After 3 months the turntable/motor starting making a loud noise. I Contacted Best buy, they stated we don't have anybody who can repair the microwave. Why cant they just return the microwave? What a joke! Very disappointed. I will never purchase another thing for best buy again.

    Won't work after electricity off.

    Piece of crap. Bought this Dec 31, so less than 6 weeks ago. Weather freezing so electricity went off. Microwave won't work after electricity restored. Tried circuit breaker, everything, but won't work. Don't have car, can't leave apt, so how am I supposed to return it???

    Purchased this about 8 months ago. It was my fourth choice as apparently my local Best Buy doesn't stock much and I needed one that day. The unit is loud, heats up the dish and not the contents. Every time I would hit the "1" button for one minute heat, it would trip the breaker. No more GE products for me.

      Hi there,

      We're awfully sorry to hear that the interior of your microwave has peeled and know how aggravating that is to deal with. Peeling paint can be caused by frequently heating items which produce high amounts of steam. If the condensation caused by this steam is not wiped off directly after use it may cause the paint to lift over time resulting in peeling paint. This is not unlike the reaction you would find in bathroom with no ventilation.

      It can also be caused when food or liquid finds itself under the tray and we continue to cook without noticing it. The paint around the spot may then start to peel.

      Note: If there is any metal exposed on the inside of the unit, the unit should not be used. Exposed metal may cause the unit to spark and therefore could be a potential fire hazard. Stay safe. Mike@GEA GE_Appliances
