It occurred while heating up water in a pyrex measuring cup (no metal involved). Realizing the microwave was toast, we foolishly bought the same microwave again thinking this was a fluke incident - it was not. After a year of use, the same thing started happening again. Highly disappointed in the longevity of this product. Please go with a different brand if you want your microwave to last more than a two years.

The quality of this GE unit is a joke. The stainless strip on the bottom of the door didn't fit properly. A week after I started using the microwave I noticed cracks forming inside of the unit where the walls meet the floor. I returned it to Best Buy and exchanged it for a Sharp Carousel microwave. So far there has been no problems with the Sharp and the overall quality is much better than the GE.

However, after just two years of pretty gentle treatment it has failed and I understand that this model cannot be repaired and there are no parts for it. If you consider two years to be a reasonable lifetime for a microwave, you'll probably be happy with it. I am not.

GE doesn't service their microwaves. What kind of service is that. I had a Kenmore that lasted me 16 years. NEVER AGAIN. Waste of mone.

Failed heating after 1 year 9 months
