Cools well for bedroom, filter is a problem.

My one complaint is the location of the filter. The unit has to be taken out of window to clean. Very hard to pull back out of the window to be able to clean the filter. It’s like having to reinstall it every time the filter needs cleaning. Wish they would have made this with filter removal on the front.

Terrible filter design

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This AC worked normally for about a month, and still technically does work, but something is very wrong with the filter's design. I removed the filter for cleaning when the light turned on. When I tried to reinsert the clean, dry filter, it would not go in smoothly. As I slid it out, the bottom right corner of the filter's frame broke.In lower right corner of the space where the filter should fit, there is a piece of white plastic approx. 2" long and some wires. I cannot manipulate the filter either in front of or behind that piece of plastic and I cannot move the piece of plastic up, down, or backwards. I have no idea how the filter was able to fit in that space before.I checked the manual, but it provides no guidance on this issue. It only states that the filter should be reinserted after cleaning. It seems like this AC is designed to break the first time the user tries to clean the filter. (I agree same thing happen to me)

I got this ac after my old unit crapped out after, 10 years. I loved that old hunk of junk :'( 1st off this new ac takes at least an hour to cool a small room, if I'm lucky -__- 2nd i need to clean the filter about every 2 weeks

Posted .We can understand the importance of feeling cool and comfortable in this heat wave we are having. We would like to help. It is important to consider the temperature of the room when the air conditioner was first turned on. If the room was very hot, it will take longer to cool the room. When heat is stored up in walls, furniture, rugs and draperies, it will take longer to cool the room down. Whenever possible, turn the air conditioner on before the room heats up. Also, if you live in an area where daytime temperatures can reach 120°F outside, make sure the room air conditioner is sized properly. In extremely high temperatures such as this, a room air conditioner will improve indoor air temperatures approximately 15 to 20 degrees. If you have pets or if your home is under construction that could be the reason your filter is getting dirty every 2 weeks. A whole house air cleaner may help and keeping the dust down. If you continue to have issues, please feel free to take advantage of the warranty that is listed on page 17 in your manual. Joyce@GEAppliances

Initially i wanted to buy the 5000 btu,but they were sold out. This unit keeps the bedroom nice and cool on low fan and its not overly loud. Also the remote is a nice feature.
