GE 6000 BTU window Air Conditioner I haven’t had a window air conditioner in over a decade, but when our upstairs Central HVAC system developed issues I decided to give this unit a shot, after hosting my son and his girlfriend taking refuge from Covid-19. The old unit I owned was inefficient, large and bulky, and sounded like a jet engine. How far technology has come. This unit is incredibly efficient, surprisingly compact, and on Eco mode emits noise on par with a PS4 fan (albeit louder when set to High) Installation was a concern coming in, not being particularly handy, so I enlisted help from my brother who had it installed in about 20 minutes. We did have to drill a hole to affix the shade to the window, and one to install the window lock above the top edge of the frame (pictured). One request I’d make with the manufacturer would be to have included some wire management for the unsightly power cable, but packing tape did the trick. PROS ——— + small and compact form factor + far more quiet than past designs + efficient, esp on Eco mode + easy to read remote control (incl Braillea buttons) + delay feature accessible via remote too + built-in circuit breaker CONS ——— -one person install, though 2 are recommended -cable management, clips or wire ties could make for a cleaner install CONCLUSIONS : Despite having Central Air conditioning this unit really helps out our upstairs bedroom, and seems to alleviate the issues that plagued previous incarnations. The true test will be a humid summer in the south.

Our home needed a newer portable AC unit as the ones we currently have are older models and not as effective anymore. We gave this GE AC a try and were pleasantly surprise at how cool the room gets with this. We decided to install it in our kitchen, about 300 sq feet because our family spends a lot of time in there. The kitchen faces the east and therefore bears the brunt of the heat throughout the morning and daytime. After a few days we noticed how superior this GE AC is compared to the previous AC unit. Pros: -Small but powerful. This is 6000 BTU's from a small and powerful AC. This is far superior than the one we had in this dining/kitchen area. From across the room we can feel the air and noticed how cool the kitchen was getting. -Sound: You would not have known you had the air on with this. It is small and quiet, almost like hearing a fan in operation. This has been such a blessing as the old AC would be loud and everyone in the kitchen would raise their voice more in order to hear. It would be in HIGH setting and it was still quieter compared to any other AC unit or even a fan. -Different Settings: There are 3 modes you can set the AC on: COOL, FAN, and ECO. Eco mode is great as we feel confident that we are saving energy with this unit. Setting it to Cool was a much needed setting as we are entering into a heat wave in the SFV. When using the Fan option, you can place it to AUTO, HIGH, MED, and LOW. All 3 settings are still sufficient in cooling the entire area. -Remote Control: I never knew there was such a thing. This is such a useful tool. On the remote you can operate all settings, speed, and timer options. -Installation: Again, the unit is not too heavy and my dad and I were able to install this in under 20 minutes. Cons: -None so far. Overall, this is a great AC unit. I am loving and enjoying all of the settings and options this GE AC has to offer.

Installed this air conditioner in a room that is about 20x10 feet. It’s perfect for the room. I leave the door open to the room and it even cools the next room over a tiny bit also. It’s remarkably quiet, much quieter than the air conditioner I had before. It doesn’t bother me at night when I’m trying to sleep. The Eco mode works with a thermostat that adjusts fan speed and temperature to keep your room at your selected temperature or you can adjust it manually. The filter is also really easy to remove for cleaning. I like it’s small , modern design. It doesn’t look bad sitting on my window sill. Installing it into the window was really easy. All you need to do is screw in the top plate into the ac unit, the side plastic guards slide in quick and easy. Have a second person help you lift it into the window from outside while aligning it. It comes with screws and plates to keep your window from vibrating and to keep the guards open and secured. The air conditioner also has a very convenient hole under in the back to allow water to drain so it doesn’t build up and freeze up in your unit. You simply remove the plastic plug covering the drain hole and you’re good to go. A/C also comes with a small remote control with Braille markings! Pretty cool. I’d recommend this to anyone lookin to cool down their bedroom. It keeps me nice and cool in this south Texas heat.

Even with central air its nice to have the bedroom a bit cooler than the whole house. This 6000 BTU GE model works great. Fairly quiet the compressor motor purrs as the fan throws the cool, dehumidified air around the room. Besides being small, it fit my window nicely. Much lighter than I expected. The left and right sides have accordion bellows that fill the opening well. They even included a foam strip for the top window. Three fan speed settings and a digital readout makes setting the perfect temperature an easy task. Even had a small remote so I can keep it near my comfy reading chair or the night stand. I figure it will save a bit of money (electricity) by not having to keep the whole house cooler than the upstairs bedroom needs to stay cooler in the hot summer. Also to reduce energy use when all I need is the one room cooler. Bright easy to see temperature readout.

First impression is that the unit is a little narrower from a typical 6000 BTU unit by about an inch, which can be handy in small window installations. Nice looking unit with a different take on the front air-return grill, rather being open slots from side to the grill is designed with small round vent openings. Setup was a breeze with well laid out instructions. Believe it took us no longer than about thirty minutes from unpackaging to cool air. Control panel is well laid out and easily understandable with all the typical settings - Mode with ECO - Fan Speed with Auto - Delay On; Set unit to come on in 1 to 24 hours - Delay Off; Set unit to turn off in 1 to 24 hours - Temp and Delay increase + Decrease The GE A/C unit came well packaged with all the accessories you expect, Remote Control, well written User’s Manual, Side Curtains/Frames, foam for top window gasket and mounting hardware. Generous Power cord length. Other thoughts: - The airflow can be set only horizontally and not up and down - Includes Subbase Water Plug. Like that in case you need to drain water from the case - Noise level is typical. A 7 out of 10 Having a second GE A/C unit found that both the remotes control both A/C units. Should make for some fun dueling temperature settings with the wife! Have installed the unit in a small office approximately 125 square feet and easily keeps the room comfortable. Does not require a long period of operation to cool the room, like that. Well made unit, looks good in the office with respectable ambient noise level. Bottom-line, good small area A/C unit with all the right features. Recommended.
