Hi - Thank you for sharing your feedback on the GE air conditioner you had purchased. In reviewing our air conditioner models, we did find our 14,000 BTU units do on average weigh about 70 lbs. We're sorry to hear this is too large for your particular application. Your comments are important and we will share this information with our product design team. Kind regards - Vikki@GEA GE_Appliances

    Humming Noise / Tripped Breaker

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Spent an hour installing the unit only for it to make a very loud pulsating humming noise while showing the number ‘84’ for the temperature. In addition, the led panel was dim and pulsing brighter coinciding with the humming noise. After about 5 seconds, the breaker it was connected to tripped. After I flipped the breaker, it actually turned on normally and ran for about a day. When it did run, it did put out cool air. The air deflectors up front are terrible and do nothing. In addition, the fan was loud - not in a pleasant way. It sounded like a car engine almost. Then, the next day the breaker tripped again. Moved it to another 20A circuit with nothing else on it and turned it on again. Again, I heard the humming noise but it lasted longer and was much louder. Finally, even the 20A breaker tripped. This is a defective unit - not one that any customer should ever get their hands on as it is dangerous and potentially a fire hazard. In addition, the quality isn’t all that great. Returning.

Hi there, and thanks for letting us know about your experience with this air conditioner! While we’re glad it’s providing cold air for you, we regret that you have an issue with the amount of condensation blowing out of the vent. We know that may be worrying, and would like to assist. It is normal for water to collect on the evaporator coils in the front of the air conditioner, then drip into a pan to evaporate. On days with higher humidity, it is possible water may drip off the unit outside (if properly installed, the model should be tilted to allow any extra water to drip from the back, outside the house). If too much water is going inside the room, it may be an issue with the base pan being clogged or the unit not being tilted correctly. If you think the latter may be the case, we do have Installation Instructions on page 8 of the manual, which can be viewed on our GE website by searching for your model number. Another possibility is that the air filter might need to be cleaned (the manual also has cleaning instructions, starting on page 7). We hope this helps, but if you are unable to resolve this concern through troubleshooting, our Service Department is available at 1-800-432-2737 and would be glad to assist. We are glad to help with any other concerns or questions. All the best! -Sarah@GEA GE_Appliances

    Returning / Broken

After less than a month of use, it would not turn on. The unit beeped repeatedly and LED lights flashed; just like one of the other reviewers stated. It's been a long time since a window air conditioner was needed in my home as we've had central air for the past 5 years. Moving to a new home without central air required going back to window ACs. The installation instructions were terrible. I was shocked to discover upon opening this unit that it did not come with an extra support. So we purchased an extra support for this. It is extremely heavy. Anyway, bottom line is it broke after less than a month of use and so therefore is useless. Returning today.

Fantastic unit. Very Pleased. Cools down my front room and even reaches down hallway and cools kitchen. I can’t believe how far it reached as well as efficiency. It replaced a unit I had for 14 years. Very quiet. Couldn’t be happier. The financing made payments affordable.

Window unit works great, if you have a portable generator on the smaller side (6500 Watts), this may put a strain onto it. Make sure you have a 12awg extension cord due to the pull. 14awg and lower will not be good for this one.

$500 absolutely down the drain. Save yourself the pain and absolutely do not get this unit. We had this unit for like a week and it’s just not working we can hear it blowing out air but the air is not cool at all and we are miserable in this heat. We have been trying everything and it’s just not working. We lost power when someone hit our power lines and it won’t work now.

      Hello there,

We're so sorry to hear that your air conditioner is not working and definitely understand your frustration. If the window, built-in, or portable air conditioner has stopped working or will not come on:

Verify the outlet you have the air conditioner plugged into is working properly. Also, If the plug is not tight in the outlet, it may not make a good connection. If the outlet is not working or the plug is loose in the outlet, we recommend having an electrician check the outlet.
Make sure the breaker in the circuit break box has not tripped.

On occasion a power surge can cause the circuit breaker to open and prevent the unit from operating.
The air conditioner should be on a dedicated circuit. If there are other products on the same circuit, they could cause the breaker to trip.
The plug has a GFI (GFCI) with a Reset button. Unplug the unit from the wall, press the Reset button on the power plug, and plug back in. We hope these tips help. Stay in touch! Mike@GEA GE_Appliances

Hello- We are sorry to hear you are having this issue. We are happy to help! If there is ice on the coils, then the outdoor temperature may be below 70 degrees. The best way to prevent ice on the coils is to not run the unit if the outdoor temperature is below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature is close to 70 or you are unsure of the temperature, you can turn the thermostat to a warmer setting and set the fan switch to the highest position. Note: The quickest way to defrost the coils is to turn the unit off and allow the air conditioner to defrost in room temperature air. If you still have issues, please reach out to us with your model and serial number, address, email address and phone number on Social Media in a private message. Thank you! Joyce@GEA GE_Appliances
