After doing few month research finally got this product. Here are things I like about this. No plastic inside of kettle, complete steel Little heavy and durable product Very good capacity and heating is quick and hold good. Looks great. Only thing i don't like .. Top lid looks like plastic and manually has to remove to pour water. Overall it's much more better than other kettle where plastic getting heating with water.

A sleek double walled electric kettle

The GE - Electric Kettle with Mechanical Control may be one of many since it does not really differ from any other electric kettle. What I do like with the GE electric kettle is that like most if not all current GE electric kettle is that is has a sleek design and a double wall. I also like the fact that it has a removable cover giving it the semblance of a regular carafe which can stand on its own. The double wall for me is a game changer as it is not only cool to the touch, it can also retain heat much longer. Operation like most electric kettles is pretty much forward. Just pour water in up to the fill line or at least two cups of water. Put in in the base and plug it in. Press the lever below the handle and just wait. It will turn off automatically when water is already hot. And by my estimate it can handle 1.5 liters of water so it may take four to five minutes to heat water. I’d definitely recommend this kettle.

    nice looking stainless steel kettle

the GE Electric Kettle is a stylish looking hot water kettle, which is made from stainless steel and remains cool to the touch due to the insulation between the inner and outer walls of the kettle. It has a 1.7 liter capacity and boils room temperature in about 5 minutes. This model has a manual control, as opposed to the slightly more expensive, less capacity model with digital controls. Not much of a disadvantage with the manual control, except you don't get the "stay warm" feature after boil. Occasionally the unit will require descaling as described in the owners manual, given the somewhat narrow opening with the removable, locking top cover this might be a bit of a task. I anticipate having to use a brush with a diluted mix of white vinegar for occasional maintenance. Other than matching aesthetics if you have other small stainless steel appliances, not sure what this unit brings to the table over a glass kettle other than cool touch on the outside. Pros: - looks good, well built - simple design with locking top - easy pour lip - quick boil Cons: - no visible water level

I have never owned an electric kettle, settling that last few years with a standard oven heated kettle for teas and soups. This has served me well, but often takes a few minutes before you hear the old-fashioned whistle of the steam shooting from the spout to confirm readiness. In comes the GE Stainless Steel Electric Kettle, and my world view has changed. In the box you will find the Mechanical Electric Kettle with a nice stainless-steel exterior and interior, a lid already pre-installed, a base with attached power cord, an owner’s manual, and a warranty registration card. Apparently, GE also makes a temp controllable model, but this lacks any exterior LED display or buttons, outside of the toggle switch located near the base, with small white LED to indicate power on. Set up is straight-forward, after a quick wipe down of the interior and a wipe down of the exterior to remove any remnants of cardboard (there was not a lot) it was ready to use. The bottom of the base also has a slot cut outs for the cord to store and sit flush on the counter. The inside of the kettle has two indicator lines stamped inside indicating a minimum fill line (approx. 2 cups) and a max line allowing for up to 7 cups of water. When I say “stamped” I don’t mean with a sticker like label, it’s pressed into the stainless-steel housing, so there is no risk of losing the fill lines over prolonged use. Once you have filled the kettle, simply place it on top of the base, which can stay plugged in, then push down slightly on the power button near the bottom of the handle closest to the base. A white LED will turn on, indicating heating start, and within a minute you will hear water coming to a boil, and the small switch turning itself off when ready only a few minutes later. There is no magical tone, just a basic toggle switch with a light that turns off when it’s ready for pour. Pouring hot water from this kettle does not require removal of the lid, which is held in place with a push button seal. When engaged, the button pops up from its flush seat, and allows you to grip and pull the lid off. When you want to put it back on, simply place the lid and push the button down to keep it in place. The pour spout is also extra wide, which allowed for a smooth pour into my ceramic mug with a tea bag inside. There is also a vent on the top lid which allows for escaping steam to leave without making a sound, so gone are the days of the old steam whistle on the stove. Overall, this helped solve a constant annoyance of filling my old oven kettle and makes boiling water convenient on your kitchen counter. After using the kettle to heat 7 cups, I used about 2 for my tea, and left the rest in the kettle. There was no chemical smell or taste in the water. I can also confirm the exterior casing is cool to the touch, allowing you to easily support the kettle with your hand during a pour and while holding the handle. I was also surprised to see that water remained hot in the kettle for at least another hour after initial use. This allowed me to pour another cup without needing to restart the kettle, which is almost as convenient as a hot carafe on a coffee making warming plate. For the price, the quality, and ease of use this is an easy recommendation for tea and soup lovers!

    Nice Electric Kettle

My old electric kettle, which I've had for over 8 years, was on its last leg (especially the removable filter but more on that later), so I was very excited to try this new electric kettle by GE. I've been using it everyday (multiple times a day) for about a week to make tea and here are my comments: Positives - the spout is wide and pours water nicely. It also retains the hot temperature for a couple of hours. Lastly, it's relatively lightweight, so even you fill it all of the way to the top (max is 1.7L), you can pick it up easily. Negatives - the power cord is very short, so you have to place it close to the outlet or use an extension cord. The lid needs to be taken off to refill the water. The charging base is much smaller in a diameter, compared to the bottom of the kettle itself, so you need to be careful when you put the kettle back on. Also, the bottom already got a bit rusty (brownish red spots), not sure why because, like I said, I've been using it everyday and it's never empty, so why would it rust - or are those spots something else? Lastly, the manual doesn't provide much info and it doesn't mention anything about the removable filter. Whether I can purchase replacement parts, such as replaceable filters, is important to me because that is the exact item which became worn out in my old kettle that I couldn't find a replacement. Overall, though, this is a good kettle for everyday use.

GE’s Electric Kettle is wrapped in a formal black and stainless suit. It looks great on the counter and does everything it claims. Operation: Everthing noted below was actually timed or measured using a high quality temperature gauge. I plugged the GE kettle in and filled it with just about 6 cups of water (the maximum line). The smallest quantity (the minimum line) is 2 cups. The easy-to-find switch is just below the handle and illuminates during the heating cycle. Heating took 3 minutes to get to the maximum temperature of 210 degrees, at which point the kettle shuts off. The GE stayed comfortable on the outside, but some heat did eventually transfer to the outside. Thirty minutes later the water inside the kettle was still 160 degrees. And hour later, the internal water temp was 140 degrees. [Keep in mind, you are always able to trigger a reheat cycle.] Conclusion: We love our new GE Electric Kettle. It’s attractive and reliably heats water for our tea. It conveniently keeps liquids hot for as long as needed and allows quick reheating as needed. We’re likely to also use it for heating our lunch time soups. Why not?

The GE Electric Kettle with Mechanical Control was a great choice to pick up! I like how quickly and easily it is to boil water. I use it mainly for making coffee or tea, but to fill it up to the easily viewable fill lines with water and sit it on the dock and press go makes me happy. The kettle is pretty quick at bringing the water to a boil. Not only do I like how easy it is to use, I LOVE the look of it. I keep the kettle on my counter and it looks so sleek, like it's meant to be there, a perfect fit. Pros: Fast water boil Easy to use Modern look Not many moving parts Fine metal mesh on pour mouth Auto shut-off when boil is achieved Easy to clean Cons: Honestly can't think of any. This is the best electric kettle I have ever owned and the best looking one at that!

An appliance I've been living without, what a shame

In my list of appliances for a modern kitchen, I never considered using a kettle. I feel like I've wasted years not taking advantage of such a great thing. Somewhere between the microwave, K-Cups, regular coffee maker, etc. I guess I didn't realize how much this would help to have. I'm an avid iced tea drinker. So, until now, I would heat up water in the microwave, then make tea from that water. However, this doesn't work like a kettle. Sure, it boils water, but doesn't keep it hot like a kettle. This is so cool and has so many safety features built in, there is no comparison. You can heat a pot of water and it will stay hot in here. And, you can simply hit the button to reheat it. With this, you will always have hot water ready to go without the fuss of the microwave. It is a great thing that I guess I lost track of and am sorry because it is a nice addition to my kitchen. This unit has safety features like a boil dry shut off, so if you are out of water it will turn off and not burn up. There is an overflow in that if you fill it too high, it will leak out under the unit, through the steam release port. Interesting, I did this, and nothing bad happened even though the water was all over surface of the stovetop where I had placed it - the unit simply worked and did not freak out the power base. No sparks, no fires, nothing. Worked great! So this safety works. By the way, the kettle is NOT plugged into the cord, the kettle sits on a base. You simply remove the kettle, fill it up, pour it, etc. and put it back on its electric base. So easy. Not like the old days when the kettle cord was plugged into the kettle and you had to pour without the cord getting mucked up or pulling out of the wall outlet. Genius! It has a locked on lid, so when you pour, it won't come off and burn you like the old percolators or kettles would do. Also, it has a very sturdy handle so no chance it'll break off and the pot goes falling to the floor. The power switch is great, press it and when done, it shuts itself off. Walk away and no worries about burned pots or damaged kettle. I was able to make my iced tea using hot water from this kettle. It tastes great, worked well, took only a few minutes to boil a full pot of cold water, and even when I overfilled it, nothing bad happened. So, I'd say this is a winner! Plus this looks great in my kitchen!

Double-Wall Is The Way To Go

For years, I’ve been using electric kettles that were not double walled because I was so used to having the water window to see water levels. I’ve learned that I, more often than not, end up reheating that same water I just heated because the temps have gone down. I’ve also learned that handling those types of electric kettles can be very hot to the touch! The GE Electric Kettle solves those two areas: I can keep the water hot for much longer and refill for myself and others without performing a reheat. That’s the beauty of having a double walled design that you would normally find in mugs and cups to keep your beverage at temperature. I can also be assured that the kettle will be cool enough to handle. That being said, the exterior wall can get very, very warm, but not so warm that you get your hands burned. I can keep my hands planted on the exterior just fine. But just don’t expect it to be ice cold on the outside and piping hot on the inside. The kettle design is pretty straight forward. There is an electric heating base that provides power to the internal heating element in the kettle. The base itself does not provide any kind of heat. To pour in water, there is a push button pop-off lid you remove. Once removed, you can see the MIN and MAX lines imprinted on the inner wall of the kettle. For those of us that are used to the water window will have to get used to this. You can always pop off the lid to see how much water remains or even carry to get a feel for how much water is left. I would have preferred to have a hinged lid so that I wouldn’t have to worry about another piece to find. I also found it a bit clunky to get it to fit with each use. Performance-wise, I was able to heat max capacity (1.7 liters) in about 6 minutes. It’s a simple push of the lever and it will take it to boiling temp. This model does not variable temperature output, so that’s something to think about if that matters to you; there is another GE model that has this feature. But for the rest of us, if you’re interested in piping hot water every time for long periods of time, and not get burned while handling it, this kettle is for you.

I like to drink tea so I'm always boiling water, and have multiple electric kettles. The job that this is supposed to do, which is boil water, it does well. It also keeps the water warm for longer than a glass kettles I've used. With that said, there isn't anything special about this kettle and I find one key thing missing: There is no way to see how much water is in the kettle without taking the lid off. Overall, decent kettle but check the prices around the same thing as one key missing part for me is to see how much water you have without taking off the lid.

I drink a lot of hot beverages like herbal teas and I'm constantly boiling water on my counter top kettle. This electric one has made it easier for me. Just fill up with water, plug it in and press the lever, I get boiling water in a few minutes, way faster than my regular kettle. I does keep the water warm too, but don't expect miracles, the only con is that this model doesn't have a keep warm function and doesn't have a "window" outside to kind of see the water level, you must open it up to be able to see it. Other than that, its a perfect electric kettle and the brushed aluminum finish makes it feel sturdy and classy. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to boil water fast and easy!

Good build quality and heats water quickly. Only downside is that the water touches a lot of plastic when pouring (not when boiling). I prefer an all stainless steel boiler. This has a plastic lid and spout, but being GE instead of some obscure brand on Amazon, I trust that this plastic is actually decently safe and BPA free.

I’ve needed a new kettle to heat hot water for tea and such, and much prefer using an electric one. So I considered whether this GE Cool Touch Electric Kettle would fit the bill. Turns out, yep. It does. Nicely. Right out of the box, this kettle was simple to get ready to use. It always pays to read over the instructions. Make sure to do the prep cleaning and then you’re good to go! One thing, although the kettle is stated to be ‘cool touch’, after heating the water in the double-walled kettle, the outer surface is definitely warm, not cool in the least. Yet not hot enough to burn, unless you hold onto it for a long time. The actual heating-up cycle is pretty quick, I was surprisingly pleased by that. Plus, the water does stay hot for quite a while. The pour spout directs the water accurately into whatever your pouring it into, without much overflow spillage. Now, another cool feature, is how the extra cord is stored wrapped around and underneath the bottom of the base part on which the kettle sits. It’s really good and tight, and as long as you wrap the cord up well, the base will sit flat. Of particular note is the size of the opening where you pop on the lid. Having small to average sized hands, it should be easy enough to get your hand down inside the interior of the kettle for cleaning, if need be. Overall, I am happy with my new GE Electric Kettle. The price seems a tad much, but the GE quality is there in this simple little appliance, so hopefully it will continue to serve me well for a good long time.
