Heavy but efficient!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m going to focus on the size of this particular unit for a minute because whoa. I guess portable is a bit of a relative term here, as technically you can move this around, but it’s definitely bigger (and a lot heavier) than I was expecting. We’re talking right around 70-75 pounds, and I wanted to use this upstairs… so that was fun. Again, I’m going to say portable is relative term here. Can I move it? Yeah… sort of. Do I want to move it again. Nope. Moving it around on the second floor is fine now since it’s on wheels, I just won’t be moving it between floors like I had originally envisioned, which is because of my varying needs when I’m at home… working from home in my office versus being upstairs in bed. That being said, let’s talk cooling and efficiency. You’ve got those. Definitely. Where I live, the summer temperatures can get up to 110 degrees, sometimes higher in bad years. We average in the mid-90s and up to 105 degrees on any given July/August day. It’s a dry heat, but when we have a particular bad stretch of high temperature days, it doesn’t cool down enough at night. For me, that means I won’t sleep well because I like to sleep with the window open and a fan blowing all night. Enter the GE Profile. Since I won’t be moving this a whole lot, I decided to put it in my bedroom, which gets a lot of sun during the day. It’s been so much more comfortable at night and I’ve slept better for it. Cooling from the unit is top notch and it doesn’t run too loud. There is some sound, but it’s like white noise and personally, that just helps me sleep better. I love that it has a good remote so I can make adjustments if needed while in bed, particularly if it’s the middle of the night. The app… needs some work. It glitches and things get out of sync, but I’m hopeful a few updates will take care of that. I took the one star off for the weight/size but as far as actual cooling and efficiency goes. Top notch.

A powerhouse with convenient features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GE Profile portable air conditioner is loaded with features and powerful. I would give it 4.5 stars if that was possible. So I rounded up to 5 stars because it is better than 4 stars. The thing that matters most with an air conditioner is how well it cools - and this one is a champ! I use it to cool a 2.5 car attached garage that is also used as a workshop. The garage is about 500 square feet which is technically slightly larger than a 10,000 BTU unit is supposed to cool. But just a little bit, I didn't want to buy a 12,000 BTU unit. The garage is more or less insulated. We recently had several 95-degree days in a row and this unit managed to keep the garage temperature at 75 degrees and eliminated the humidity, which made it very comfortable. It did run almost continuously but it did a far better job than I ever dreamed it would. So, I give its performance the highest possible rating. Setup was easy. The unit is large and comes with a bewildering number of pieces. But - the pieces are a wide variety of fillers and panels to use to fit the intake/exhaust tubes into your window opening. Installation was the easiest I've ever done for a window or portable AC unit. My window is a 31" wide double-hung and the basic panel was perfectly sized and took 10 seconds to fit into my window and connect the hoses. Plug it in and turn it on. Out batteries in the remote and you are set. This unit is very convenient, and if you already have any "smart" GE appliances you can use the same app on your phone to control them all. The remote control has a nice display and sensible buttons and works great. The GE "SmartHQ" phone app works fine. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to connect the AC to the app and the instructions say to press the wifi button on the unit but doesn't show you where that is. Well, it is a shared button on the right hand side of the control panel that you have to press for a few seconds and then everything works as expected. I like being able to contrrol the temperature from anywhere. The reason I would take off 1/2 star is because since this is a portable unit it collects condensate in an internal storage reservoir. A window AC unit drains the condensate outside. The problem is that the tank on this unit is not removeable, and it has to be drained by removing a screw-on drain plug. That's all simple enough. BUT - the drain plug is about 1/2 inch off the floor so there is no way to put any kind of catch basin or bucket under it to drain into. I'm still trying to figure out how to best accomplish this. Luckily it takes weeks to fill up the tank so I shouldn't have to do this often. Overall, I really like this air conditioner. It cools well, is easy to install, and is very convenient to operate.

Great AC unit with easy setup.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing moves a lot of air! We set it up in our master bedroom and it cools the place right down! That room and its bathroom are on the west side of the house and the temps have been over 100 lately, so this has been a welcome help to our regular cooling. Our house is cooled by an evaporative cooler that does a decent job when the temps aren't too high and the humidity is low. Lately, the humidity was pretty high, making the house feels very sticky. With this thing installed, we are able to cool just that part of the house down and sleep comfortably. It is so quiet that we really don't notice it since our door is closed to the regular noise of the swamp cooler. Setup is very easy, although we did have to put it up on a small table because our old house has higher than normal window sills, so the hoses wouldn't quite reach from the floor. The mounting plate has all sorts of pieces, so it fits a wide range of window sizes and orientations. Having two hoses seems to help it cool better than our old one we had a few years ago but that may just be because of this one being a bit larger capacity. It has a lot of settings that allow us to get comfortable quickly and the quiet mode is actually quiet! We live near a freeway, so having it quiet really helps! We set up the smart feature also, but tend to use it only by the controls on the unit itself since it is right there. With even higher temps coming next week, we may need to set it up to come on before we get home so we have a comfy place to come home to.

Loud, shakes the house, doesn't tun on
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just to get it to run you have to power it on and off several times. Ehen the compressor kicks on and during operation it loudly shakes the room and even part of the house.... The vibration is absolutely crazy. I think we wasted 600 dollars. At least it cools once it finally turns on

Posted .We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your review. To help protect the life of your air conditioner's compressor, the cooling function will begin about 3 minutes after the unit is turned on. This short delay is normal and ensures long-lasting performance. If the vibration or noise worsens, please take advantage of your one-year warranty by calling 833-426-3393. -Kacie@GEAppliances

Not Very Powerful
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The dual hose design is pretty cumbersome to install vertically. The unit does not cool the room very well

Posted .Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with your portable air conditioner. Your insights are welcomed and valued. To obtain optimal cooling performance, you will need a minimum of 8" of air clearance on each side and at the back of the unit. When initially turned on, consider the temperature of the room. If the room is very hot, it will take longer to cool the room as the unit must also remove the heat that is stored up in the walls, furniture, rugs and draperies. Whenever possible, turn the unit on before the room heats up. If you continue to have an issue with the cooling performance, check with your dealer regarding their exchange policy. If you are beyond their exchange period, please call 1-800-432-2737 to discuss your options during the warranty period. -Vikki@GEAppliances

Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had previous portable AC units before to cool down my roughly 200 square foot room. I have central air conditioning but I feel like I need a portable ac unit to really make my room as cool as I need for good sleep. However this AC unit was not way over priced, I also feel like it doesn’t make any difference in the temperature of my room. I am so disappointed that I bought this unit instead of another brand that had worked so much better at a much better price.

Very noisy and can’t keep cool
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to like this unit and use in the bedroom above our garage, however it is extremely loud when it comes on, vibrates badly (can be heard shaking several rooms away) and just couldn’t keep the room cool in 95* days. Will be returning the unit and sticking with a window a/c.

Great portable AC Unit
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always had a room in my house that just won't get cool. No matter what I do, there is always a considerable temperature difference in this room and the rest of the house. I've been looking for a while to find an easy solution that truly solves this problem. This AC unit seems to have done the trick. It has worked great to cool a relatively large playroom on my second story. The unit itself functions really well. It is easy to set up and operate. It comes with all of the pieces needed to connect the unit to a window and seal in the vents so that you don't lose much AC through the window. All you have to do is connect the vent to a window and plug it in, setup is that easy. The unit has a built in thermostat that allows you to set the temp and forget. the unit cools a room quickly and does so in a relatively quit way. I haven't noticed a ton of noise from the unit. Overall, I'm really impressed with this portable AC units ability to cool a room quickly. The only downside is the amount of room it takes up. It is pretty large and given how the vent attaches the window it does not sit flush with the wall. If you are able to live with that, this will do a good job keeping you cool.

Cool and Easy to Operate Quiet?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We only need AC in our place and our area of the world for a limited period during hotter months here, thankfully, so we do not have central air in our area. This means we need to use portable AC units. These floor based widow units are better for our needs than the "window shakers". Our last unit worked well from a cooling standpoint, once you got used to the noise. It was pretty loud, but turned into that sleep noise eventually. This GE Profile is sooooo quiet!! When this is running it is almost quiet enough versus our previous unit that I had to check multiple times that it was on, I'm not making that up. There is a sound it does make that I really didn't hear until my wife decided it bothered her. Once she pointed it out, I heard it, slight dripping water sound and a squeak or something that really isn't that noticeable. It cools better and more efficiently than our previous unit. Programmable settings, remote and phone app are also nice, conveniences this unit offers over our previous one. We are overall quite happy with this purchase to replace the jet engine like noisy unit we replaced!
