Bought this 1 year and 1 month ago. We did love it when it worked. Funny it just stopped pumping water after a month out of warranty. We wanna buy another to replace it but how donwe know we wont waste another 600 bucks?

The GE Profile - Opal 2.0 Portable Ice maker with Built-In WiFi has turned out to be one of those items that you never knew you needed until you got it. The nugget ice it produces is definitely worthy of being known as “the good ice”. Easily chewed and slow melting it has quickly become the favorite in our house and branded our refrigerator icemaker obsolete. As with any new purchase it is suggested that you read the Owner’s Manual prior to use. However, the Quickstart Guide included provided simple step-by-step instructions for set-up, cleaning, and use. Taking 5 minutes to read this guide and familiarize yourself with the components and operation of this system should address most of your questions. After spending 10 minutes doing the initial clean suggested before use (simply bleach and water), we had usable ice within the advertised 20-minute time frame. The machine is touted to produce 1 lb. of ice per hour (up to 24 lbs. per day) but the ice bin only holds 3 lbs. of ice at a time. We emptied it several times during the day and the ice production followed the advertised pace very closely. The Opal 2.0 is very modern in appearance. The stainless finish with a dark grey top and faceplate compliments most any décor and blends well with any color appliances. At 16 1/2 inches tall, 17 ½ inches deep and about 10 ½ inches wide the unit can fit just about anywhere. Keep in mind that the vents on the sides and fan on the back will require some clearance and air circulation to allow the unit to function properly. The low profile front has only 3 touchscreen buttons – clean, light (2 levels which illuminate inside the ice bin), and power. While I am now a fan of using nugget ice in all of my drinks at home this portable ice machine would be great for use in an RV, taking to a camp ground, or for use with a home bar. It doesn’t require an attachment to a water supply-you just fill the water reservoir. However, you will want to clean your machine close to a sink for easy access to a water source and drain. The addition of indented handgrips on the sides or back would aid so much when carrying this machine. Solidly built and weighing in at 35 lbs. you don’t want to take a chance at dropping and damaging it. Both a small plastic scoop and drip tray are included with purchase. I found that placing the machine on a protective mat of some sort is a great idea since condensation from the water reservoir builds up on the bottom of the ice bin and drips when you remove it to dump the ice or refill the water reservoir. Over time these drips could damage some surfaces and they could also be a fall hazard if not wiped up right away. The Opal 2.0 runs very quietly. Surprisingly it does not keep the ice it produces frozen inside the ice bin. Instead, as the ice melts it recirculates the water back to the water reservoir. This prevents frozen clumps and continuously produces fresh, clean tasting ice that stays readily available. The production of new ice is also triggered when the ice bin is opened and closed. This machine offers built-in WiFi connectivity via the SmartHQ app and the option of voice control through Alexa and Google. At this time I have not explored this capability since my phone is already overloaded with numerous other apps. I don’t believe that I will be in need of the ability to monitor the status of the machine, set up a schedule for ice production, or adjust the lighting inside the ice bin remotely at any point but it’s great to know that these functionalities are available to me.

Do not buy this. This thing grows black mold in the upper reservoir that you cannot gain access to. Not only that but 1 year and 1 month after purchase (expired warranty) it starts flashing that it needs water when it's full or switches to the cleaning cycle on its own. Horrible product. Search it before purchase, I wish I had.

Purchased this ice maker and it went out in 10 months . Trouble shooting and maintenance didnt help .

The GE Profile ice maker is a great ice making machine. It makes the soft “Sonic” style ice that is the best for cocktails and drinks. The ice is also great for blending. The machine itself seems like it is quality built. It’s heavy so not something you will just be moving from room to room frequently. Setup is fairly straight forward. You run a cleaning cycle and then you are off and running. The machine starts to make ice in about 20 minutes and within a few hours, the bin is full. Pros: * Quality built * Quick ice production * App to set schedules for ice production and to turn the machine off and on * Looks attractive on the counter - has light for the ice bin to add some ambiance Cons: * Can be a little loud when making ice * Non-insulated ice reservoir so ice melts somewhat quickly (but is recycled into the water bin) * To add water, you have to remove the ice bin completely * App indicates to clean the machine frequently (every few days which seems excessive)

This ice machine was easy to setup, easy to use and looks great with my other stainless applainces. It makes ice quickly and is simple to use. The SmartHQ app is also convenient to use to remotely turn the ice maker on or off.

Buyer beware! Purchased it today and after spending an hour cleaning and setting up (followed the directions precisely). Once I finally was able to turn the ice maker function on, it just continuously poured water into the ice bin instead of making ice. A total waste of time (returning tomorrow).

If I could give it negative stars I would. Absolute junk. Didn’t even last 6 months and customer service was a big run around waste of time. Threw it away. Absolute waste of money.

Indont have a lot to say anout this item, but i dont like that the ice melts, but it replenish itself.

This ice machine makes the absolute best ice and the best part is you can finally have it at home. This machine makes that crunchy ice that you tend to see from commercial ice machines that you see in the service station or restaurant that's fun to eat because it's chewable. Aside to being fun to eat it's hard to say exactly why but it just seems to make most drinks taste better and colder. Like many people I have a fridge with an ice maker too but there's two reasons I like this machine over it, the first is, it makes ice MUCH faster and the second is the taste and quality of the ice just seems better for beverages and sure blends easier for smoothies. Next to that, I would say the WiFi feature is actually pretty cool and lets you schedule when you want ice so that it's ready and helps you by saving energy and keeping the ice fresh! The wifi feature also enables you to use Google or Alexa to control it, turn it on/off, turn the light on/off or dim the light. For what it does and how much it holds it surprisingly doesn't take up as much space as I thought it would on my counter. It runs quiet compared to the other countertop ice maker I have and most of the time and you can schedule it so it doesn't run at the times you don't want to hear it anyway. The light makes the ice just look awesome and isn't too bright so if it's in an area that you want darker like on bar or in your entertainment room, it won't be too bright. It holds plenty of ice to make more than a several drinks at a time and if you run low it goes to work making new ice right away. Unlike the other countertop ice maker I have, this machine filters the water recycled from ice melting and has a UV light that keeps bacteria in check. We have really enjoyed this machine so far, it looks great, is easy to use and most importantly makes that good chewy ice! Would absolutely recommend this machine!

Started making a loud noise during the first cycle. Followed instructions for cleaning and sanitizing. The noise was similar to a dirt bike. Returned and got a replacement. No issues so far.

Machine has issues that has to be constantly dealt with.cleaning is a big part of keeping the machine operating.

Got the ice maker SO excited to make myself a delicious beverage over those little ice cubes ...the ice machine DIDNT MAKE ICE!
