Customers highly value the Opal 2.0 ice maker's excellent ice quality and ease of use. Many appreciate its compact size and sleek design, while some find the noise level and the need for frequent cleaning to be drawbacks. The water tank's design also received mixed reviews, with some users finding it inconvenient to refill. Convenient and easy to use Nugget Ice Maker

Probably the toughest part of the ice maker is waiting with anticipation as you clean it before its first use. There is a series of cycles through the cleaning function that includes one round of bleach mixed water before its first use. After that its off to the races. The water reservoir is easy to get to under the ice tray and has an easy to find fill line. Its also very convenient as you'll find out sometimes opening the tray you drop a few nuggets, when full, into the water reservoir where they will melt and just cycle through the system again. Ice starts dropping in about 20 minutes from starting the ice making process and here is probably my only complaint. The system does have a noticeable hum while making the ice. Its not so loud that it interrupts everything your doing, its just a hum that is noticeable. Once the ice making process is complete the system is very quiet though as it keeps the ice cold. To get a full tray of ice, it takes a couple of hours, but the ice dropping into the tray needs no supervision as it settles very well in the tray and we have never had an issue with it jamming up. Once in the tray the ice does not freeze together either. It has always been easy to scoop up and out of the tray. The last part then is the taste and use of the ice. We had a birthday party this weekend and everyone enjoyed the ice and thought it was a pretty slick machine. I would recommend this ice maker to anyone looking for nugget ice and especially anyone that has a home bar to entertain guests.

Makes great nugget ice, but is not a freezer

First thing to mention in my opinion is that once your awesome ice is produced, it will eventually melt if not consumed. This machine is an ice maker but is not a freezer, so you can't store the ice in there indefinitely. Think of it like an ice cream maker - just like you can make ice cream in the maker but not store it in there, so goes it with this ice maker. So, if you realize this from the get go, you will be spared some disappointment. On a positive note, if the ice melts, it just reaccumulates in the tank so that you can run the maker again and it will utilize the melt water to make the ice again. Other than that, the only other issue I had was that the quick start guide was stored inside the ice chamber and I had a heck of time getting the chamber open for the first time. It almost felt like it had gotten vacuum sealed in transport or something like that. I finally had to put a towel over the handle (so as to not damage it) and use pliers to, literally, pry the chamber open. I guess the wifi connection is nice, though somewhat of a novelty at this point - I can't really envision a scenario in which I would need to remotely turn on the maker or set some kind of schedule for it to start making ice at a certain time, though I'm sure some sort of situation will eventually arise in which I'll be glad that I have that ability at my fingertips.

The GE Profile 2.0 has been a great addition to our household. Everyone loves the shape and size of the ice nuggets and we have been using it non stop. Build quality is excellent and it goes very well with our other stainless GE appliances. Setup is easy but will take some time. You will have to run cleaning mode a few times with the first run being a bleach mixture as stated in the quick start guide. Once you have everything cleaned, you are ready to make ice! Dump some water in the reservoir and wait for the nuggets to drop. The unit does make noise while making ice but once the ice bin is full it will shut off. The noise didn't bother us but some may think it is too loud. It is also worth noting that the machine does not keep the ice frozen in the ice bin. While it does stay cool, and the ice will last for some time in the bin, it does melt and gets recirculated to make more ice. This works very well in my opinion. Cool design! We have a household of 5 and with the current heat wave the machine has been able to keep up with our ice needs. It is capable of making 24 pounds per day as long as it has water. While this model does not include the side tank, we have found it really isn't necessary. The reservoir holds plenty of water and refilling it is super easy. If you're looking for a countertop ice maker, I would definitely consider the GE Profile Opal 2.0. We have been extremely satisfied with it.

The icemaker works wonderfully; however, it is noisy when it is making ice. Adding water to the reservoir is a bit tricky as well, but it makes perfect ice that everyone loves.

First and foremost... this is the Opal 2.0 NOT the Opal 1.0. This does NOT have a side water tank... there seems to be a confusion when I was looking this up... There's just something about nugget ice that makes it the best ice you can get... chewable, long lasting, easy to make smoothie with. Being able to have nugget ice at home is a delight. The 2.0 has a internal reservoir for the water which makes it more streamline. Wi-Fi enabled to show status and other options via app. While it is quick to make ice, it is not enough to fill my Yeti Hopper 12 with a single load. Not that big of an issue but it will require more than one load to get a good cooler filled. There is ONE issue that I do not like and that is every time you open to get ice, there is a lot of water leakage. There is a tray for it but they could've prevented this. I get it's probably humidity in the kitchen, but it's rather a task to keep wiping it up every time I open it up to grab ice. It's expensive, but there might be a reason for such a purchase if there's a lot of use for it. I like my nugget ice with my drinks so here I am with one. Thanks.

    Great but With Some Drawbacks

We have one with the external side tank. The ice is fantastic, we use it exclusively for drinks etc. its great because we fill the tank with water dispensed from the fridge that is filtered. Our water is very hard FYI. 3 things to know: 1. You have to fill the tank often which gets tiresome. 2. Ours really needs cleaning with vinegar about once a month to keep it making ice at a reasonable speed. 3. As indicated in the q&a, you cannot plumb in a water line. This is really problematic, see 1 above. I still am considering how to split the line to the fridge and run water to this unit with a small tap to turn on and off to fill this thing. Definitely love it but you need to know the facts.

First thing I noticed about GE’s newest icemaker The Opal 2.0 is how heavy it is, 35lbs according to their description. Machines like this do need to have some weight to them that’s how you know it’s a heavy duty quality product. so to me this isn’t a bad thing, you just got to realize that you won’t be able to move this around too much. Pour in clean water and out comes pellet ice in about 20 minutes, the machine does get a little loud but thats to be expected. The ice maker overall is made very well, it looks good, it works good. This is perfect for home parties, Man caves or for anyone that enjoys cold drinks.

this is our favorite kind of ice to have. so its nice that we no longer need to go to am pm or some other store and get charged to get a cup of this ice. i love that you can connect to it via wifi and then you can control it thru your phone. you can set up times for it to make ice. like if you work all day, you can set it up to start making ice an hour or 2 before you get home so you have ice ready and not have it making ice all day while you are gone. the ice maker holds a good amount of ice per container. we are able to fill up a couple star bucks cups and still have some ice left. overall a great product and nice to have the ice we love at home. if you love the nugget ice which is only at certain places, then this is a must have.

Great machine for the “good ice”

Not too loud like everyone is saying.. we drown out the noise with tv very easily. It makes the “good ice” fast and holds a good amount. Wish I would have gotten the side tank model because we run out of water pretty quick. Only reason for 4 stars is the cleaning and descaling is a bit time consuming. Overall good machine and do not regret the purchase at all.

With summer at hand I decided to get this machine to help with those times when one needs lots of ice. Unboxing the unit is quick and easy, minimal packing materials. Once opened the manual suggests a cleaning pass and instructs how to accomplish this. This is the only area that prevented me from giving this little machine 5 stars. Manual illustrations are poor at best with a non existent "fill line" drawing for the water tray, So poor in fact that they show the ice bin installed when filling the water tray and fail to identify which bin is for water and which for ice. To be fair, this should be easy for most people to figure out. Once the unit is set up for initial cleaning you plug it in and press the clean button. All controls on the unit are non tactile so you have no indication that pressing where instructed does anything at all for several seconds. This holds true for all operations. Enough with the reason for 4 stars. Once cleaned and placed in operation this little machine becomes and ice making demon. First cubes started dropping in 20 minutes, once started it does not stop. Half of a fairly large bin in an hour, by 2 hours it stopped making ice as the bin was full. Checking the water tank revealed a mostly empty tank so figure adding water every two to 3 hours when running continuously and using the ice. Cubes are the size if small marshmallows, Shaped about the same as well. Great for party drinks of if you want something to get very cold very quick small cubes get the job done. You can download an app and the unit has it's own WiFi or can be added to your home / work networks for remote control and monitoring. Once finished the machine is very easy to put away. Drain any existing water easily let it dry and you're done. Summary: Good looking, fast ice making, quiet. Small enough to fit almost anywhere big enough to make lots of ice when needed. Really like this thing,

So I've long been an ice chewer, sure it annoys some people, but hey, I enjoy it. Ice cubes just dont lend themselves to that sort of activity. Yes, they'll work if there's nothing else, but really I need something that is designed for that. Enter the GE Profile nugget ice maker. This thing is seriously amazing. It gives you the sort of ice you usually only find in a commercial ice machine but at home. Making and getting the ice is as easy as you'd hope. Add water, wait a bit and you've got the chewable ice that you're hoping for without the annoyance of larger ice cubes. It's great to have a large amount of the nugget ice pieces to do with as I please. It also makes the ice incredibly quickly. Really there isn't much to dislike about the machine. The WIFI functionality is mostly unneeded. Sure you can schedule when to make ice, but honestly I dont really see a point. The idea of an ice maker is that ice is ready whenever you want it, so having a standing supply is a basic requirement. Scheduling production with WIFI seems like an unneeded feature. There is only one downside to the machine. it's larger than you expect. I understand that there needs to be room for the compressor to be able to make the ice, but the machine is very large, so be sure you have the counter space for it to sit in. All in all, if you like to chew your ice or prefer the small non-cubed ice, this is the unit for you, it makes a lot of ice fast, it's easy to chew and is reminiscent or commercial ice machines. Definitely recommend.

I was excited about getting the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker because of the type of ice it makes. Most ice makers produce the cubed ice, but this one actually makes what everyone seems to be calling "Sonic" ice. Upon receiving the unit, I was quite surprised by its weight. It is much heavier than I had anticipated. It isn't a unit you really want to move from room to room, but if you needed to move it to another room for convenience, it would be quite possible. The set up was easy...just a routine cleaning. They recommend going through the cleaning cycle several times which is a good idea. Each cycle only lasts a couple of minutes or so. After that, you just add water, and hit a button, and about 15 to 20 minutes later I was enjoying my first batch of ice. Of course it was only a small amount, but it was more than I imagined it would be. After an hour there was quite a bit. The unit comes with the option to control it over wi-fi. I created an account after downloading the app, and it does allow you to pretty much control the unit as much as you can if you were standing right there at the machine. It has the ability to pair with Alexa and Google. I filled the reservoir with water and let the unit run while I went to bed, and in the morning the hopper was completely full of ice. It is an amazingly simple ice maker to use. Overall I am quite pleased with the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker. It makes great ice, it's quick, and it is quite aesthetically pleasing. There aren't a lot of controls to deal with, and everything seems to be designed quite well. There are a couple of things, however, that detract a bit from the overall experience. The unit is quite noisy. I have decided to move it into the Utility Room where I can close the door and not hear it. The noise would not be such an issue but any time you get ice, it automatically goes into ice-production mode. The only way to stop the unit from making ice is to turn the machine off which causes the ice to melt. The ice hopper itself is not insulated, so the ice is subject to exposure to the overall ambient temperature of the room. This does cause the ice to melt, and once it gets to a certain level, it kicks back into ice-production mode again. In short, you can expect the unit to run...a lot. If it wasn't so noisy, this would not be much of an issue. If there was a way to deactivate the ice-making mode for the night, or when you just want a bit of peace and quiet, that would be great. Also, adding water to the reservoir is a bit awkward. You have to actually remove the ice hopper to add water. If the hopper is full, you can expect a little clean up. Other than the noise and filling issues, this seems to be a terrific ice maker. I have already grown quite fond of it, and am looking forward to many years of enjoying the "perfect" ice. If you are looking for an ice maker that is super easy to use and maintain, the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Nugget Ice Maker is the one to get. I would highly recommend this ice maker to anyone.

My ice maker went out in my freezer so I was looking to get it fixed but decided to go with this instead. This is the best ice you can get. They are the perfect size and thickness for all your drinks. You pour water into the reservoir below the ice bucket. Ice begins to make in 10 minutes but you really can't get anything to use until 30 minutes. Bucket has a light over it either on/off or medium light. Has a clean option that you mix bleach to run through machine. When the ice melts it goes though a hole in the bottom of bucket back into the reservoir to be used again. You can drain the system through tubes that come out the back of machine. Awesome!

Followed Mfr. Instructions to the letter. Weekly Cleaning. Only used distilled water. Provided plenty of ventilation and blew out dust frequently. Motor and Gearbox got louder and louder after 14 months even though making ice fine. Eventually had to return it. Thankfully had the Geek Squad 4-year plan they decided not to repair it. I got a purchase price store credit. Great concept; just wish it held up better. GE (Haier) needs a better warranty.
