Posted .Hello. We really hate to hear your Opal isn’t working correctly – this certainly isn’t the performance we would expect, especially when you haven’t had it long. We know this must be frustrating, and we want to assist. If the unit isn’t making ice specifically, you may want to check that the ice bin is pushed completely into place. Resetting the ice maker by unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours may also help. Additional information about what to try if the Opal isn’t making ice is available in an article on our website, titled “Opal Ice Maker – Not Making Ice”; you can view that by looking up the title on our GE Appliances website and clicking the Support tab. If you aren’t able to resolve the issue using that information, our Opal Support team can be contacted at 1-866-907-6718; those specialists would be glad to assist with troubleshooting. Then it seemed to work fine. A few months later it quits altogether. I am well under the year warrenty but Best Buy of course does not back it up. GE does not either. It falls to a company called Opal who is the manufacturer. They directed s me back to Best Buy.

Posted .We can understand how upsetting this would be for you and your family and would like to offer some troubleshooting that may help. If the water well is filled to the upper fill line and no ice is being produced, please perform this simple test: 1. Please start the Opal and switch to cleaning mode. Don't forget to detach the side tank. 2. Remove the screen/filter at the bottom corner of the reservoir, exposing the small white rubber inlet used for water circulation. 3. Make certain that the Opal is not connected to the phone app and that the water well is filled to the upper fill line with distilled water. 4. Remove the ice bin and press the button to see if the Opal pumps water. This could take up to 5 minutes to start. 5. Plug the small inlet with your finger for 10-15 seconds to create a vacuum within the pump/circulation system. 6. Release the plug and wait a minute or until you see water movement. 7. If you do not see a change, you may want to repeat these steps a couple of times. Note: If you see water movement, please switch to ice mode and run for 30 minutes. **You may also need to prime your pump so try using a Turkey Baster/Injector and gently fill the hose that doesn't go to the side tank with water, and then restart the machine. If this doesn't help, please reach out to Opal Service at 1-866-907-6718, M-F 8:00-8:00 EST.

Awesome, When It Was Working

There are 6 of us, so we go through ice like crazy. We purchased it May of 2021. It's now August of 2022 and it stopped working. We used only filtered water in it. It's too expensive to die after a year!

You may want to try disconnecting the unit from power for about three to four hours before plugging back in. That resets the unit and can often resolve an issue. EXPENSIVE for one year of use

We went online and found people having the same issue and followed the directions they were given by the company. The rest worked for about a week and now my Ice maker is just a VERY expensive eye sore on my counter.

When I took it back less then 2 hours after getting it, the store manager told me that was because I used it.(took it out for maybe 15 mins NEVER used it)

Returned - What a bust!

The machine is beautiful, it just does NOT work. Took 15 minutes for the first ice nuggets to produce. It is NOT a constant dropping of ice nuggets. It comes out in dribs & drabs. The ice begins to melt before you've made enough to put into a glass or make a great blender drink. Sooo disappointing!!!! I returned it on 29 October.

Posted .We appreciate you reaching out to us. For the leaking issue, please make sure the drip tray has been installed correctly. Also, the Opal is not designed to keep the ice frozen in the bin. With time, the ice melts and the water from the melted ice is recirculated to make fresh ice as needed. If this does not help with your concerns, please unplug the Opal for 2-3 minutes to reset the electronics. Please make sure you have a minimum of 4" of air clearance on all sides and at the back of the Opal. If needed, use a hand vacuum to clean the side vents and run your Opal through the cleaning/descaling process explained in the online Owner's Manual. If you continue to have concerns, please call 1-866-907-6718 to discuss any options available to you.

After it hit one year the following problems happened: - tank started leaking - mold would grow inside (even when following the recommended cleaning schedule and using filtered water) - now it suddenly stopped producing ice all together. Save your money and buy something with a better guarantee.
