Your wife will thank you.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only had this unit for a little over a month - it's so cool. Totally creates that restaurant crunch ice so many people love - the real deal. We run a cycle in the AM and PM most every day and it's worked fine so far. Very pleased - was a gift for the wife and she was super stoked. Worth the price - with much more if I actually get a few good years out of it.

I like it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use the heck out of this ice maker. I've had to clean it once due to calcium build up, but it wasn't a big hassell. I don't use the ice maker in the fridge anymore. I'm an ice eating fool. My dentist told me to eat only soft ice from an ice maker like this one. It makes some crazy noises like a cat, sometimes a whale. But I would still highly reccomend it.

Soft Ice!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this soft ice! Very nice improvements from earlier version. Side water tank much more convenient than filling the old model reservoir. Previous model was noisy. So far so good

Works well and very stylish
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a big, beautiful machine! A takes up a little more counter space than your typical portable, countertop ice maker, and it is a lot better looking! I set it up, which is a little more extensive than normal, but the results are worth it. The machine makes soft ice pellets. So don't expect hard, clear ice. It does make a bit of noise, so be ready for that. The machine also lets you know when to clean the machine, which was after one week of use! Again, this aa beautiful machine that makes a lot of ice. You can even program it to turn off and on, very convenient!

As Good as Expected!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We just moved into a new apartment and the freezer didn't have an ice maker... tragic!! We've been eyeing Opal ice makers for a few years, but could justify the price as we already had an ice maker (the bad ice, but still). Given our move, we decided to go all out and throw down $600 for the "good" ice. The initial cleaning process took a little while, so don't expect to have ice within an hour of coming home. But after cleaning, filling with water, pushing "power", and going to bed, we woke up the next morning to perfect soft ice pebbles. It has a little sound, but it's not too loud. If your kitchen and living room are open, I can see it bothering some people, but our kitchen is a separate room and it just blends in with the fridge and dishwasher running. Overnight, the ice can clump together a bit, but a few pokes with the ice scoop and it all falls back apart into perfect pieces. We're thrilled with is so far.

Best countertop appliance in our kitchen.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What's not to love? Could be a little quieter, but overall very pleased with this purchase. It fits perfectly under our cabinets, and the programable on/off and control via app is great. The ice is perfectly chewable and cools drinks instantly.

Nugget Ice Happiness
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife has always wanted a nugget ice maker for the house. The under counter options are much more expensive and the motors seem to burn out quickly. The Opal has been great keeping up with the family demands. Set up was easy and the device began making ie right away. It is a little noisy, so I would suggest not playing it directly in your kitchen if possible. I have ours in a butler pantry area which works out great. So far, there have been no issues with the device and it has been working flawlessly. Everyone enjoys chewing on the nugget ice.

Stopped working after 2 years
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Luckily I purchased the warranty. It stopped working after 2 years. It was fantastic while it worked - it's my favorite type of ice. But you HAVE to be diligent about cleaning it weekly. It is noisy and squeaks often because it's frozen and it's defrosting itself. No matter if you buy bottled water or use filtered water - CLEAN IT WEEKLY.

The better choice
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the Insignia due to the price and 44lbs per day rating. After a few days I couldn't resist also trying the Opal 2.0 because of the external storage tank. I put them head to head to decide which to keep. The Insignia produces ice 25% faster. 3 lbs 3 oz in 2 hours. The Opal produces 2 lbs 8 oz in the same 2 hours. Which is 25% better than its 1lb per hour rating. The quality of ice from each is the same. Insignia is nice a crunchy and has a square shape. Opal is nice and crunchy with a cylindrical shape. The drawer in the Opal is easier to open. The Opal is quieter. The external water storage is much more convenient to refill. In the end I am keeping the Opal because for me the pluses are worth the extra cost.

Great product, can't drink water without it!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love love love this ice maker not sure how I drank water without it!! This ice maker produces the perfect little ice nuggets for every drink. The quality is amazing hence (do people still say hence? lol) the large price tag but well worth it. It has a sleek design is a perfect addition to any kitchen. The only con is that it is a bit noisy, it is and I wish it weren't but even with the annoying noise it isn't going anywhere. I still love love love it!!!!

Awesome addition to our kitchen.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off it's huge and takes up a LOT of counter space. It's also a tad heavy so moving it around to clean it can be a little awkward and when it's running the pump inside is not crazy loud but noticeable, it's actually louder than my dishwasher which can be an issue if you run it during a time you want peace and quiet. And lastly the App does not work AT ALL so forget about scheduling times for it to make ice. Other than that this thing makes great ice FAST. You turn it on and 10-15 minutes later it's already dropping nuggets

Great buy...pricey though.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was well worth the purchase. I spent about a month researching ice makers before settling on the Opal 2.0. I initially was going to get the insignia but came across some bad reviews on it. Ultimately, I paid $200 more but feel it was worth it with the use and quality we are getting. Its also nice javing the side resevoir so you don't have to refill the actual machine. My biggest complaint would be the price. Noext complaint is that it takes almost a full day to get it full of ice to where it's sustainable.

Love , love , love. Sorry I didn’t purchase sooner
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When my in the door ice maker on my fridge stopped working (water keeps damming up and freezing in a big block), I originally purchased a “regular” countertop ice maker. It worked fine, but was very difficult to clean and didn’t make the ice in the soft pellets. When it stopped working after a year or so, I bit the bullet and purchased the Opal 2.0 and am so glad I did. The ice is fabulous, it makes ice quickly and makes plenty enough to keep us stocked. The set up and initial cleaning was a breeze. The side water reservoir makes adding water easy. The auto clean feature is a huge plus! And did I say the soft ice pellets are fabulous? Expensive, but for me, it is worth it!

Ice of my dreams but 6 months old and failing :(
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I’ve been watching these icemakers for over three years. I wasn’t ready until now to fork out the money to purchase one for myself. I’ve seen how many problems I’ve had over the years with the first couple of models not lasting. I’m not one to really splurge on myself especially when I’m unsure if it will last. I was one of your weekly sonic ice buyers. Just going there coming back home living in Florida sing how much melts on the way home re-bagging the ice and always trying to find space in my freezer for it. Most of it was useless in the end because when it froze it was just huge lumps I was always keeping little hammers around the hammer the ice. I know my youngest daughter avoided me for a while because she didn’t wanna go on one of my weekly ice runs Lol. So I figured out the cost of how much I spent nearly on sonic ice and the cost of this machine. It literally was about 10 bucks give or take a little the amount I yearly spent on ice or purchasing this unit. I paid off my car and I’ve been thinking about it since. So one weekend I got brave and I said I’m just gonna go get it because Best Buy keeps it in stock now. I’m in love complete love the best thing that has ever happened to me LOL. Well maybe besides my grandchildren ha ha. But I find myself worrying daily when it might break down. I literally can’t live without my ice. Well I’ve had this unit for six months now and about a week ago it started making the squealing sounds :(( so of course what’s the first thing we do we Google it. I read information saying basically there can be built up minerals on the ace producer up top. That you put a napkin soaked in vinegar in there overnight. So did all that cleaned it out blah blah blah. Now when I turn it on it makes that continuous squealing noise it’s absolutely horrible. I’m so sad I think it’s dying already :( my worst fears have come true. I came on here looking for the purchase date because I did have Covid earlier this year and now I have brain fog I really thought I bought it in February and I actually bought at the end of May. So now I have to figure out who I need to contact and what can be done :( I absolutely love this machine but why can’t they seem to get it to have longevity. I’m praying and hoping they stand by their product. I will update when I figure out what happens and what will be done. I guess they still need to work the kinks out sadly.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this ice machine. It makes the best nugget ice. It can be a bit of a pain to maintain and keep clean but in my opinion it’s worth it. Plus you can schedule time for it to come on which is a nice feature.

Life changing!! Now we have ice like Sonic!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally! A nugget ice maker that compares to So of ice! We’ve had this ice maker for almost a year and we absolutely love it! I suggest making sure you buy the water tank. We go through so much ice every day and I can’t imagine not having the tank. It makes ice fast. Make sure you use filtered or distilled water which is even better. We didn’t at first and now our ice maker has a mineral buildup. If it quits working it will be our fault. I would definitely buy one again though!

Great update to a great product
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decided to replace our Opal 1.0 with this model as it is just a little shorter and would fit under the cabinet adjacent to our kitchen sink. Much easier than carrying water all the way across the room to fill the unit. That said, the redesigned features on this latest iteration of the Opal are terrific. The ice bucket is better insulated and will keep ice a bit longer. The switch from Bluetooth to wireless for the app operations (scheduling, etc.) works much smoother. The side mounted extra water chamber is terrific. When filling the old model, the ice bucket had to be removed to pour the water in, this invariably resulted in water dripping from the bucket all over the counter, machine, and floor. The side tank completely solves these problems. If you like nugget ice, you will love this machine!
