I did like the ice this machine made. However, the maintenance and the issues it created were ridiculous. I live in an area with hard water, so purchased a waster distiller to use with this machine. Even with that, and continuing with regular maintenance of warm vinegar, this machine still had problems. Phone calls to GE, their solution is to 'hold your finger over the inlet and move it around' to everything. Every issue. In the first twelve months I think I called 3-4 times. I eventually stopped calling to figure it out on my own when an issue arose. After 16 months the machine broke. Because it was out of warranty I decided to take it a part to fix it myself. I disassembled the auger, no problems. Compressor no problems. Quickly I found the gearbox was the issue. Upon searching 'opal gearbox' I quickly discovered this was very common. For 600$ I expect a machine that I perform the required maintenance on to work for a lot longer than a year and a half. That's what, 33/month? For ice? I can buy ice at Sams for half that cost. Not to mention the HOURS of cleaning I spent, the HOURS AND HOURS of cleaning. Because i'm not satisfied with hard water / floaters in my ice system. I hate this machine. But I did like the ice.

Bought this because the ice maker went out on out fridge. It was easy to set up but weighed more than I thought. It is well built! The first few batches of ice had a plastic taste to them. It has slowly gone away with each use. Follow the directions that explain how to clean it out when you first set it up. The wireless connected flawlessly to a dual band net work. Some have complained about the noise it make (a bit loud until you get used to it), but you can just schedule it to make ice in the middle of the night with the app.

Easy set up. Doesn’t take up too much space. Makes ice quickly!

This is my second ice machine. The first brand I chose was terrible. This machine is fantastic. It is easy to set up, easy to fill, and makes the perfect size ice. The only negative is that they ice tends to be hard and not soft chew and it is expensive. I would still purchase this exact machine, you get what you pay for! I love it!

OMG!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ICE MAKER. It continuously makes ice and the ice is great! Easy to set up and clean. I would recommend this ice maker to anyone looking for "cocktail style ice or ice they could simply chew" as I am an ice-a-holic. I know the machine is a little pricey, but it won't disappoint. If it is in the budget, GET IT!!

The quality of the ice is fantastic; chewable and soft. The only drawback to this is the frequency in cleaning that it requires. Furthermore, there are occasions when the machine will make loud noises.

Great machine, great ice. Gives off loud humming sometimes, even in well ventilated area. Little excessive cleaning required monthly. Distilled water is expensive too.

Makes fantastic ice, and having the additional reservoir made it VERY easy to refill while maintaining operation. Only drawback, which is why four stars and not five, is that whenever you open the drawer it dribbles water all over the front and on the counter. Very frustrating. I returned the ice maker for credit.

A little on the pricey side but definitely a great ice maker. Super convenient and takes up minimal space

We love it! Keeps ice full. Small “sonic” ice. Easy to care for. It is a little noisy and large - if you’re short on space.

Love our new ice maker! I didn't think I would like it as much as I do. It is a little pricey. My husband wanted it, but I use it all the time! I love the nugget ice and it lasts longer than cubed ice in my cup. Definitely recommend!

As a younger tech-savvy guy, I thought this high-end ice maker would be a great addition. Instead, I got a glorified paperweight with LEDs. Let’s start with the Wi-Fi setup it’s absolutely useless. I tried every trick in the book: resetting the machine, switching Wi-Fi bands, updating firmware, uninstalling/reinstalling the SmartHQ app. Still nothing. GE’s app is buggy garbage, and support just sends you generic copy paste replies. The design is flawed too. The lid is finicky, the sensors act up constantly, and the side tank is awkward to fill and doesn’t sit right. The noise level is higher than expected, and don’t even think about using it in a quiet kitchen or small apartmentit hums and clicks like it’s fighting demons inside. Reliability? Within the first week it started having random shutdowns. No error messages, no warningjust shuts off. Then the machine began acting like it’s full when it’s clearly not. Restarting it became a daily ritual. Not what I signed up for with a $600+ appliance. Bottom line: Don’t let the sleek look fool you. GE slapped a nice finish on a product that barely functions. The “smart” features are broken, the machine is temperamental, and for this price, I expected excellencenot endless headaches. I’m returning this overpriced boat anchor and advising everyone to look elsewhere. GE really fumbled hard with this one.

Very simple to set up. I love how we can just run it when we need ice and we have fresh Sonic style ice in a matter of minutes. Not loving having to go to the store for distilled water, but we have been stocking up to make it easier. The ice is small clear chunks, not cloudy like some other ice machines.

We have had this ice maker for about a year now. It has great ice and the whole family loves. We have it running a lot and bag ice for future use. The only reason i am doing 4 stars is bc it needs to be cleaned often, however that could be because we dont use a filter and its well water. Other than that it has been great.

To start off, my spouse has been wanting this ice maker for as long as I can remember but I was VERY skeptical about it until our previous ice maker have out. When we first moved in to our place, my spouse and i did not have an ice maker and our fridge didn't make ice as fast as we would like. Unfortunately I thought that buying this specific ice maker was too expensive, therefore we went for a smaller one, a Whirlpool. The Whirlpool lasted us over a year u til it gave out, it was wasting the water way faster than intended and not making enough ice. Recently my spouse said she would like to buy the nugget ice maker and i finally gave in and my only regret is not buying it SOONER. PROS: The ice lasts all day!!!! We do not have to be refilling the ice maker very constant. The ice is way more than I anticipated, which I love. It does not melt fast! I am unsure if that's due to the ice or the cup I am using. But I am in love with the ice maker so far. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nugget ice maker.

Great item, nice perfect size Alittle noisy but perfect ice cubes

I bought this for my wife as she LOVES ice. Makes ice in small chunks, once it gets going it goes pretty quickly. Initial setup is a little time consuming and cleaning process isn't the fastest. This is by far superior to the other ice machine we own. It's night and day. Personally we only use filtered water, the ice is great tasting. If you can afford this machine and love ice its a no brainer for me.

I love it. It can be a little noisy at times. But we never run out of Ice now. Very easy to set up and use.

This ice maker is the best! We love that it has a large side tank that stays filled for continous ice. The nugget ice is amazing! It's just like Sonic! Set up was fairly easy. We will be doing our first cleaning soon but it doesn't look complicated at all.

Makes great nugget ice pretty fast. It is expensive and heavy to move around. We use it at the house then move to the camper when we travel. The only issue with it that I do not like is the loud screeching noise when it's in defrost mode. It is super annoying. For the amount of money this thing costs, I feel as if that noise shouldn't be so annoying.
