Pros: Makes ice fast and the ice pieces are a perfect size! Like Sonic ice. Aesthetically, the unit looks great. Cons: When it needs to add water, you have to remove the side tank, flip it, unscrew the cap, fill it, screw the cap back on, flip it back over and then (and here is where the problem arises) you have to lift the entire thing above the unit being careful that the little clear hose doesn't come out (which every time I do this, it comes out because it isn't tight enough and then water goes everywhere. This is the only way to get the air bubbles out of the system allowing it to fill and start making ice again. This is a really bad design. I have a Keurig pot next to my ice machine and it also has a side tank. You fill it from the top therefore never needing to lift it to allow it to start using the water. I don't know why the designers of this ice machine didn't think that having an opening at the top would be much better. I will be seeking a different ice maker that isn't so cumbersome.

This thing is the best! Though you better follow directions or suffer the consequences. Distilled water only, no minerals, clean the machine ever week or two as directed. So far this machine is super quiet. The only noise I ever hear from it is the ice falling into the tray. The ice quality is perfect. Other machines try to mimic the ice from sonic for cheaper and fail...this is exactly like sonic/hospital ice. Perfect texture and crunchiness. Now I get it, its expensive, but I honestly cant imagine not having it now.. like how did we live this long without our own personal sonic ice machine?! If you can splurge for it, buy it. You wont regret it. Id also say go ahead and get the extended warranty from bestbuy.. worth it on something this expensive.

We love the ice but I find it very difficult to clean. It does make ice quickly. We do enjoy the quality of the ice. I use bottled water to prevent using any hard water that will damage the machine. I still find I need to constantly clean it. Having said this, I would still buy it again.

I love this machine. Quick to make. Easy to use and install. It always makes more than enough so i bag it up and when we have luncheons at work i bring a few gallon bags into work and everyone goes crazy for it because it is "chewy ice". Honestly i can say this is one of the best buys i have done recently.

Love this ice maker! Its pricey but well worth it, easy to hook up right out the box. It did operate slow the first day which had me worried that it was defective but I guess it just needed to break in because by the second day it was making ice in no time! Super easy to operate and hook up to the app so you can turn on/off on a schedule or if your away and want to control it, just make sure you fill up the tank so it has enough water to make ice.

The GE Profile Opal nugget ice machine is amazing, love the side water. Very easy to set up and clean.

This ice machine makes the best ice. It is softer than Sonic ice, which in my book makes it better. For the most part, the machine is pretty quiet. At times it can be loud, but it isn't very often. I did have to contact customer services after we had been using the ice maker for over a month about it defrosting too often. It took them a couple days to respond to my email, but they resolved the issue quickly. Worth the investment!

Love this ice machine! The ice nuggets are perfect and the production is super fast! I hesitated for a while because of the price, but its so worth it! At initial start up it can be a little noisy, but hey, it’s making ice, I expect some noise. No leaks and it makes a ton of ice in one go! Happy customer here !

This ice machine is a dream come true. It doesn't leak. It has an easy keep full method, and the ice is wonderful! It is quiet and can keep up with my husband who is an ice junky. It is so much better than the original firstbuild model we had--it did last over 4 years even with its design flaws--I am hoping this pretty model lasts just as long.

I obsessively looked for ice makers, watched so many comparison videos and ultimately decided on the GE Opal 2. We were buying bags of ice from Sonic which was hit or miss and inconvenient. House with 6 people who love nugget ice and this definitely produces. Easy to use, easy set up and easy cleanup.

This is well worth it if you like the chewable ice that holds the flavor. Sonde works flawlessly. Pretty quiet and can control from your phone. Your guests will be impressed with your ice. Makes ice pretty fast will have plenty to go around. Has auto shut off when full and turns itself back on for more ice if you scoop some out. Took me a month to decide to purchase and glad I did. Should of purchased sooner.

Makes awesome Ice, but turns off automatically instead of continually making ice when it gets low via a sensor, so you have to remember to always turn it on. I believe at this price point it should have an always on feature that makes ice when the level drops below a certain point.

On the pricier side with respect to ice machines; however, the value it brings is worth it. We were buying bags of ice for awhile. The money and time spent driving to the store, checking out, and storing bags of ice have been reinvested into this machine and has already paid itself off. Upon reading the manual, setup was straight-forward even though it takes a bit of time starting it up for the first time — cleaning it after unpacking it. Once complete, ice was being made in about 20 minutes. We keep this side water tank filled with filtered water to produce clean ice nuggets. The side tank empties moderately fast once it gets going; therefore, we keep an eye on it when we're in the kitchen to see if it needs refilling. It sits next to our sink to easily clean/drain when required rather than having to move the unit — it's fairly heavy and awkward to move. Double check space requirements. Ours sits a half inch below our cabinets and extends the entire depth of the counter which includes the plastic tray for the scooper. We're trying to figure out how to keep the scooper clean since it sits out in the open on the front tray — everyday kitchen dust and grime.

It makes crunchy ice. No idea why but it makes the cokes taste better and more fizzy. Item is flawless so far. To the reviews that say its noisy, yea its just like a fridge. It makes sounds and goes through cycles but thats normal.

Disclaimer, I have only had this device for about a month at the time of this review. Most negative reviews I see on here are people who either got a bad machine or start having issues months down the road with whining noises, etc... So far I have not had an issue with either. Ice is made very quickly, even though it is not refrigerated, the ice stays pretty solid and the container stays full. I eat a lot of ice when i get home in the evenings. I have the schedule set to start about an hour before I get home to run until midnight and the I have it run most of the weekend. The only negative thing I have so far si the app. Doing the schedule is a pain. It does not like "overnight" schedules, even though I set it to turn off at midnight. My fix was to change it to 11:59. And the app immediately says I need to clean my device. The machine does not indicate it needs cleaned, plus its new and I just cleaned it before I started using it. I bought it knowing I had total tech and could get it replaced or return it if it starts acting up, but so far, I have no need to use it. Its running great and I love the ice it makes.

Best purchase to date!!! If you love Sonic ice this machine is for you!! It’s not cheap but my my whole family enjoys this and it makes your drinks amazing!!! Easy to clean, and just makes me happy!

Got this for my wife, I have ended up using it more than her. Perfect for mixed drinks. Read a lot of bad reviews about how loud the machine is and that it stops working, in some cases, as soon as a couple days. It is not silent, but reasonably quiet. Gets slightly louder when it first starts making ice, then gets quieter within minutes. Runs great as of now and has not had any issues.

Set up was a bit confusing, but figured it out. The ice is amazing! After cleaning the 1st time, the machine started to screech very loudly. Looked at the manual and followed the process for deep cleaning, but the screeching only got louder. It is a trade off, amazing pellet ice, but it is very loud when making ice.

I like the texture and size of the ice cubes. It's great if you love chewing ice. I only had this ice maker for under a month and it's already making a squeaking noise. Kind of disappointed in that. I would expect to start hearing this type of noise at least 6 months after purchasing for the price I paid for it.
