In fact I bought this one to replace an older one that died. From the old one dying to getting the new one up and running was just shy of 60 mins. 60 mins I lived without a point or direction and still shudder when I think back to those 60 minutes I had to endure without Opal ice and I know GE bought the company but to me , this will always be an Opal.

Nugget Ice Machine

When you scoop out ice and close the drawer it instantly starts making ice so that your drawer is always full. It makes ice pretty quickly. It will not keep up if more than 2-3 people are using ice. My complaint is: For the price I think the ice bin should be bigger to accommodate more people. Also the ice bin is hard to open.

Purchased because built in fridge ice maker broke. Glad this choice was made over the built in. Excellent ice, quiet operation, can be monitored with app on cell phone.

The ice is perfect for any beverage (water, soda, iced coffee, cocktails, etc.) or even just chewing. The cleaning is fairly simple, but we do use filtered water for cleaning and filling. I imagine if you use tap water, it may have more build up over time. This is an expensive product, but we don't have any regrets purchasing it.

You never have to worry about running out of ice and you never have to worry about making ice yourself!!! This machine makes you want to have a drink with ice, it’s a total must have in your home! Throw away the ice trays!!!

I’m even drinking more water because it’s so refreshing. The noise level is acceptable and while running the machine makes a sound similar to a small fish tank, but then it completely goes away when the machine doesn’t need to make any additional ice. This unit is a bit pricey but so worth it. If you can, get one.

We finally got the GE Opal and it is a beast, constant ice all the time. We are constantly using it and we are never out of ice.

Opal 2.0 Ice Maker

Hardest part was cleaning the unit. I have heard of others running into problems but i haven't had any issues. I refill my unit with water from my brita water jug. Works great.

Posted .We’re so glad you’re overall happy with your Opal, but we do hate to hear you have some concerns regarding the noise level. We do expect the Opal to make some sounds as it operates, and hard surfaces like the walls, countertops and floor may amplify the sounds. If it may be helpful, we have more information regarding what noises the unit may make on page 13 of the manual; if you’d like to view that manual, you can do so on our GE Appliances website when you look up the model number and go to the product page. We’re confident your Opal will work well for a long time to come!

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the good ice! this has been my dream purchase ever since it came out. our ice maker finally broke and i ran out to get this right away. it works well and runs pretty quietly. it’s a hum really, not super loud— i am at home with 2 kids, a husband working from home, and a puppy, though- my house is rarely quiet in general. only complaint is that it takes up a lot of counter space. worth it, though!

Also, the light inside faded out/burntout after a couple of month. Machine works as intended though.

Opal Ice makers are Grrrreat!

Makes ice super fast. Shuts off automatically when bin is full or if the machine needs water. I love the nugget ice, too. The machine is quite heavy and it really takes 2 to lift it onto the counter so I wouldn't necessarily call it portable If you're on the fence about this product, don't be, pull the trigger, you won't be sorry.
