    When it decides to work, it works well. The issue is that it doesn't work all the time. And some of the times that it decides to grace us with ice, it is extremely noisy

      We know an issue with the Opal not producing ice consistently and making excessive noise would be concerning, and we want to help. You may want to make sure the ice chute isn’t blocked, as that could cause an issue with ice production. Following the cleaning instructions starting on page 7 of the manual (which you can view on our GE Appliances website when you look up the model number and go to the product page) would help with an issue with blockage. You can also try resetting the unit by unplugging it for four hours before plugging it back in. Regarding sounds, we do expect the Opal to make some noise as it operates, and information on what sounds the unit may make is available on page 13 of the manual. If you aren’t able to resolve the issue with ice production and/or the noise seems unusual, our Opal Support team is available at 1-866-907-6718; they’d be glad to assist further. GE_Appliances

    This thing is amazing! Excellent ice output and far quieter than I had anticipated. Really nice build quality as well. Built in ice makers are a fortunate and break all the time. This is a great alternative and a much better price point.

    I’ve only had this nightmare for 6 months and it’s already gone to waste. It leaks everywhere because of a faulty seal inside the machine but if I want it fixed i have to pay a couple hundred dollars. This ice machine already isn’t cheap I’m not going to pay more to have it fixed when it’s only been 6 months. Before the leak it makes a very loud squealing noise just not worth the money

    GE Profile - Opal 2.0 Ice Maker - Massive Failure

    The GE Profile - Opal 2.0 Portable Ice Maker turned out to be a huge fail for reliability. Product made ice efficiently and consistently. However, cleaning the ice maker per the instructions and on a regular schedule every two weeks made no difference! The GE Profile - Opal 2.0 Portable Ice Maker died and would no longer make ice a few days after the 1 year warranty expired! GE Profile has been hailed as a more reliable product line and worth the money. After the experience with the GE Profile Opal 2.0 Ice Maker at $500 and a GE Profile refrigerator at over $4,300 where the ice maker failed just over a year after purchase I would have to disagree. These products are no longer reliable, and I would not recommend GE Profile products to anyone!

    We love our new GE ice maker. It is super easy to refill the water, and the run sound does not bother us.

    I like the convenience of the ice machine BUT it’s way too loud for me. Also it seems to take a very long time to make the ice.

    It makes ice. It's a little noisy. Wish it had an option to connect a water line. It makes a strange "farting" noise every so often.

    Love the machine but was damaged in shipping and had a huge dent in side. My mother was very I’ll and it was ordered for her so we did not return it due to her needing it.

    It worked great until it didn't. After about a year it started making LOUD knocking sounds that made me think it was about explode. I make sure to clean it every week, but I can't determine what is creating the knocking sound. For as expensive of an appliance it is, it should work properly for more than a year. Each time it makes the knocking sound I have to unplug the entire machine, reclean and it "may" work for a day or so.

    I absolutely love this machine, the ice is amazing! I am very upset and discouraged because it has stopped working. The Add Water light is on, even after refilling it. It will no longer make ice amd we have only had it for less than a month. Im so disappointed.

    The 1st one was broken right out of the box, it had a bad ice level sensor and would only make ice after turning the unit off and then back on. GE told me to return it and I did. In retrospect I should have just stopped right there, but the wife loved the ice. Picked up a second unit and that one had severe issues with it's software, GE's so called "Smart HQ"...worst app I've ever interacted with, period. GE could not fix the issues and emailed me, they said "if" they found a fix they'd get back with me...really that's what they said. Took it back! It did make great ice, but at $600 it needs to work well when new at least, lol.

    I have had the ice maker about 9 months now, and we have enjoyed it more than we thought. It does have a consistent sound when making ice that is louder than we expected, but it was easy to see past that. However, it now makes a high pitched squealing sound when making ice and its unbearable. We are looking for repair options currently. While we love the ice I expect to not have these types of issues after only nine months for the price.

    DO NOT BUY! I had this machine for 2 years and it broke down. I keep getting an “add water” message about 20 seconds after I start it….even though the water tank is full. Google this before you buy and see the thousands of people that have had the same issue. I’ve replaced the filter, updated the software and even changed the pump. Nothing is working. Contacting GE is pointless because they will not help you trouble shoot at all.

    Loved the ice....BUT-- maybe ours just had issues..... SCREAMS during defrost and it keeps saying add water , when it has water.... and just out of GE warranty and its dead--- get the Geek Squad warranty( you will need it).

    Excellent countertop ice maker. We owned a prior model for years and loved it and when it no longer worked we bought this. Very quiet and the reservoir tank is a great addition. It is expensive, but totally worth it for "sonic" ice at home...

    Love this machine! The only problem is the drip pan needs to be deeper so as the ice melts from the container the liquid doesn’t go underneath the machine and onto the counter.

    To say i am not happy is an understatement. A $600 appliance that only makes ice for 1 person (1 to 2 glasses a day) does not last more than 2 years is beyond frustrating. I should have done more research, as everyone is stating they the unit stops working after 2 years. I love the ice, the reliability is a different story. Definately would not purchase again.

      This ice maker can produce up to 38 lbs. of ice in 24 hours. If your ice maker is not performing properly, please get in touch with Opal at 1-866-907-6718. They will best be able to assist you in this matter. GE_Appliances

    Don't waste your money on this lasted 1 year! Followed all the instructions exactly, cleaned it when needed. The tank just stopped working all together 6 months ago then 6 months later the entire thing broke. I wanted this for a long time and finally decided to get it but for this kind of money needs to be WAY better. I regret purchasing.

    I love it! I always have my favorite ice available. The only thing I wish is that the reservoir was bigger. I only have to fill it up every 2 days or so. But we use the ice everyday and my neighbors are happy to get a bag from us, too.
