    The most frustrating kitchen appliance I have ever owned! Does it make great ice? Yes. Will it break on you? Almost definitely! It worked great for a couple of months, then suddenly the "Add Water" light starts coming on. I have spent so much time, resources, and effort cleaning and trying to keep this machine going; but I have finally given up. It has been thrown into the junk pile. Conclusion. Do not waste your money on this machine. For the cost of this machine, and the cost of supplies to clean it constantly, you are better off going to Sonic everyday! This machine is not cheap. That's a lot of trips to Sonic!

    After only two years with cleaning as recommended it makes awful grinding noises and quits working. 600 dollars for only two years of use is ridiculous. Of course they only cover a year warranty bc they know these will break down. Do not buy, its not worth it!

    Ice wet and not cold enough

    Ice was not cold enough and was wet. If we put the extra ice into our regular freezer to save it would freeze into a large block that we would later have to break apart. Returned. Not worth the price tag.

    Very disappointing

    What a headache this machine is... when it works it' s a fantastic unit. We have had a total of 3 in 5 years. First two we were able to replace under warranty but the last one died just after warranty expired. We were diligent in the monthly washes and really babied this thing. Unfortunately these units are guaranteed to self destruct. Not going to replace it again. Very substandard for the price.

    Barley last a year

    Do not waste your money on this machine. While it is a great ice maker and we love the ice it made, it dies after about a year. You would think a machine that cost $600 would last longer than a year. We took great care of our machine cleaned it regularly and only used distilled water in it as recommended yet it only lasted a little over a year. You are better off just going to sonic and buying a bag of ice to keep in your freezer than buying this machine.

    Gave to wife at Christmas 2022. Has been replace 3 times in one month. 1st made ice but when filling reservoir sprayed water over ice and melted it. Then stopped working. 2nd was shipped a used unit that had been returned. 3rd unit worked fine for a few days then started making noise then would stop. Finally the noise came back with a vengeance and could hear it 3 rooms away. Returned for full refund. Save yourself time buy something else

    Great ice!

    I was excited to set up the ice maker today and it will not connect to me the GE Profile app. Anyone having a military issue? Second I wish the ice tray actually kept the ice frozen versus the ice melting in the bin. Now let’s crank out some chewey ice!

    I wouldn’t buy again I am on my second ice maker. I bought the first from Best Buy and it worked for three works. Best Buy won’t accept a return after 2 weeks. Ours stopped working after 3 weeks. Opal did send a new machine was received and follow the instructions exactly and machine did not produce ice once. I am just want my money back but unable to due to Best Buy not accepting and GE Opal won’t give money back due to not bought from there directly. Very unhappy. I will be getting my third opal soon

    Don’t use warranty!!!!!

    I loved this product but $500 for a few months of good ice is not worth it. Worked for the first few months then made an awful screeching noise. It was under warranty so they sent a refurbished unit to replace it. The replacement unit had rusted screws so now it leaks. Wish I would have kept original. Company won’t do anything about it. So frustrating!!!

    Buy another brand than this GE

    In 2014 I purchased an Opal ice-maker for my wife. It has been perfect and it actually lasted a lot longer than I expected it to. We have been nothing but happy about with it, and she tells everyone how much she loves it. Since it was getting old and requiring more attention, I decided to get her a new model. 3 months ago she got a new version with the side tank and it has worked great, until yesterday. Yes the old model, 7+ years and no issues. The GE version, dead at 3 months. I shouldn't say dead, but the water pump died. Luckily I am a guy that is very reliant, and knowing the quality and reliability of a GE product, when I got rid of the old original Opal, I saved the old parts. I placed the 7+ year old water pump in the new Opal and it works perfectly again. Even though we love this ice-maker, if you are not mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/plumbing issues, then you should look else where from this GE product. I steer away from anything GE since I know their quality, I was and Field Service Engineer for GE in their Healthcare business and only lasted 2 years since I couldn't stand trying to repair instruments with cheap parts so GE could save money. All GE products are crap, this new version of Opal being no different, And good luck trying to get them to service what they sell, They are famous for their Customer-NO-Service. I am surprised that Amazon would even sell this kind of crap. The GE moto "GE-You can get better, but you can't pay more."

    Dont waste your money on this. We havent had ours even two years and its already broken. GE wont fix it and you cant buy replacement parts. $600.00 piece of crap worked good when it worked but a huge waste of money for the short life.

    Junk!!

    I’m on my 3rd machine in a year and a half. Was having issues saying that I needed to add water and the tank was full, was told by support to put my finger in reservoir and prime the pump, which had to be done on a daily basis. Now it’s saying that it’s making ice but no ice is coming out. I’ve contacted support and descaled it for 18 hours, it’s back to doing the same thing…no ice. I’m sure I’m past the crappy warranty so I’ll just be stuck with a $650 ice maker that doesn’t make ice. Fix this issue GE and make it right for all of the people who spent a boat load of money on this product!! Maybe we should all ban together and start a class action lawsuit, everyone seems to be having the same issues with these junk machines.

    Ice machine

    This ice machine didn’t last more then two years .. keeps running into a defrosting issue and won’t make ice … support was no help and the videos I did find on cleaning on YouTube didn’t work .. very disappointing for a $600 machine

    Buyer Beware - Warranty

    This is about Best Buy's warranty. Beware. I bought the 4 year warranty as the employee told me the reason to get it was if I had any problems, I could just bring the machine in and swap it out and wouldn't have to wait on a machine being repaired. Two and half years into the warranty, I have an issue. Tried to resolve it on my own, finally resolved to taking the machine in....only to be told...they have to send it off to get repaired. So now I've been without ice for a week trying to fix it myself, and now I have a wait another 1.5 weeks for Best Buy to check it out. Buyer beware, I would think twice about purchasing this at Best Buy if you want a warranty and to work with people who keep their word.
