Mine started getting an oily sludge in it and GE did nothing to help after sending them the photos and sounds coming from the machine. I cleaned it every week or more with their cleaner, vinegar and bleach and nothing worked. They refused to fix it or send me a new one. Didn’t want to make my family sick with what was getting into the ice.

We owned a prior model for years and loved it and when it no longer worked we bought this. Very quiet and the reservoir tank is a great addition. It is expensive, but totally worth it for "sonic" ice at home...

The only problem is the drip pan needs to be deeper so as the ice melts from the container the liquid doesn’t go underneath the machine and onto the counter.

The only thing I wish is that the reservoir was bigger. I only have to fill it up every 2 days or so. But we use the ice everyday and my neighbors are happy to get a bag from us, too.

The option to connect via WiFi is difficult from what have I have experienced. This machine ONLY makes nugget ice despite the information on the web page. In love it so far.

Once the ice tray is full and ice is removed it no longer senses and continues to make by itself. I have to turn the unit off then back on again, this is rather annoying.

Think it had compressor problem. This is the 2nd nugget ice maker i have tried. The first one (different brand) lasted 3 months. So i have gave up on them.

They are just like the Sonic ice, but it is a bit large and occasionally makes loud noises. Still worth it though.

Avoid GE Opal Ice Machine

Got it a few weeks ago and already having problems. We originally had the Opal original, which died after a year and a half. Love the ice it made so took a chance with the 2.0 model, hoping they had improved the design. This one, the 2.0, worked fine for a couple weeks, but now that we're a week out from the returnable date, it has begun making a terrible, groaning/screaming noise. We turned it off, gave it a few minutes, then turned it back on, seemed to run fine for a few minutes, then restarted with a really loud bang, like something was caught inside and hit the side of it. It's either really poorly designed or the manufacturing has been shoddy. I don't know, but I wouldn't buy another at this point. When it does work the ice is amazing, though. A shame, really.
