However, some customers have concerns regarding the noise level and long-term reliability, while others feel the cleaning process is a bit lengthy.

Ordering Opal number three. No other countertop ice maker compares. BUY the warranty! The first time I bought this unit I saw multiple reviews noting something will fail within a couple of years and that's what has happened. I starting using distilled water in unit 2, apparently that didn't help but it's made the cleaning much easier.

    Never Run Out of Ice!

I was hesitant in purchasing because of some of the reviews, but decided to do so. I am glad I did. You won't run out of ice ever! The ice is smaller than the "good ice" but it is still like it. I have this machine on day and night (my daughter loves to eat ice). I like to have gatherings and it is perfect when making drinks. You have the option to purchase a filter for it. If you do, make sure that the filter is on correctly or the machine will not make ice. You will have to fidget with the filter until it starts to make the ice. There are also times when I refill the water tank and the "add water" lights up. I just open and close the ice drawer and it starts to make ice. It does make noise but it's not unbearable. I will definitely purchase again if anything happens to the one I have. It is a great investment.

GE Opal ice! if your an ice lover this is the ice machine to get! ive been really happy with this overall. My family is constantly using this for ice! My wife likes to eat ice and this makes it quite soft and easy to chew. We have been incredibly happy with this! We purchased it open box it came looking brand new. It had been reboxed, but overall it works perfectly! I highly recommend this ice maker i would absolutely buy another one if this one ever broke. It makes the ice quickly and it is pretty easy to clean you will need to either make your own cleaning solution with vinegar or you can buy the cleaning solution that GE offers.

    Best Ice Cubes Ever!

Purchased the 2.0 a few weeks ago during an excess heat wave in SoCal. We love it. Perfect crunchy ice cubes. We use distilled water to help it last longer. The side tank is perfect because we use a lot of ice all day long. Worth every penny. The ice bin that drops down tends to leak, due to condensation or rouge ice cubes that fall. The catch tray usually keeps the mess to a minimum but we keep a cloth nearby. Haven’t used the Bluetooth feature yet, because frankly this ice maker works all day long since it’s under constant use. But I’m going to have to test it at some point. I highly recommend this ice maker. It’s life changing. I’m very happy with this purchase. Took me about a year to finally buy it and I’m so glad I did.

Only had this unit for a little over a month - it's so cool. Totally creates that restaurant crunch ice so many people love - the real deal. We run a cycle in the AM and PM most every day and it's worked fine so far. Very pleased - was a gift for the wife and she was super stoked. Worth the price - with much more if I actually get a few good years out of it.

Makes great ice. Little loud for me but you get used to it. Everybody in my house loves the ice, so it is what it is. Works as I expected. Easy to clean. Use filtered water and you’ll be thankful.

I love love love this ice maker not sure how I drank water without it!! This ice maker produces the perfect little ice nuggets for every drink. The quality is amazing hence (do people still say hence? lol) the large price tag but well worth it. It has a sleek design is a perfect addition to any kitchen. The only con is that it is a bit noisy, it is and I wish it weren't but even with the annoying noise it isn't going anywhere. I still love love love it!!!!

This is a big, beautiful machine! A takes up a little more counter space than your typical portable, countertop ice maker, and it is a lot better looking! I set it up, which is a little more extensive than normal, but the results are worth it. The machine makes soft ice pellets. So don't expect hard, clear ice. It does make a bit of noise, so be ready for that. The machine also lets you know when to clean the machine, which was after one week of use! Again, this aa beautiful machine that makes a lot of ice. You can even program it to turn off and on, very convenient!

Luckily I purchased the warranty. It stopped working after 2 years. It was fantastic while it worked - it's my favorite type of ice. But you HAVE to be diligent about cleaning it weekly. It is noisy and squeaks often because it's frozen and it's defrosting itself. No matter if you buy bottled water or use filtered water - CLEAN IT WEEKLY.

This is our third nugget ice maker from GE. The only reason we keep choosing this one is because of our best buy total tech coverage. We have no choice but to keep dealing with the dreaded grinding noise every 6 months or so. This noise happens regardless of how much upkeep you do on your machine. We've contacted GE themselves to see if they would just send us the parts to fix the item ourselves. GE requested a video of the machine making said grinding noise and we never heard from them again. Would I bother getting this machine again if i had a choice of replacing it with anything else? No. It makes the nugget ice you want but wont last very long. Wouldnt buy at almost 600.00 retail either.

What's not to love? Could be a little quieter, but overall very pleased with this purchase. It fits perfectly under our cabinets, and the programable on/off and control via app is great. The ice is perfectly chewable and cools drinks instantly.

We just moved into a new apartment and the freezer didn't have an ice maker... tragic!! We've been eyeing Opal ice makers for a few years, but could justify the price as we already had an ice maker (the bad ice, but still). Given our move, we decided to go all out and throw down $600 for the "good" ice. The initial cleaning process took a little while, so don't expect to have ice within an hour of coming home. But after cleaning, filling with water, pushing "power", and going to bed, we woke up the next morning to perfect soft ice pebbles. It has a little sound, but it's not too loud. If your kitchen and living room are open, I can see it bothering some people, but our kitchen is a separate room and it just blends in with the fridge and dishwasher running. Overnight, the ice can clump together a bit, but a few pokes with the ice scoop and it all falls back apart into perfect pieces. We're thrilled with is so far.

    Nugget Ice Happiness

My wife has always wanted a nugget ice maker for the house. The under counter options are much more expensive and the motors seem to burn out quickly. The Opal has been great keeping up with the family demands. Set up was easy and the device began making ie right away. It is a little noisy, so I would suggest not playing it directly in your kitchen if possible. I have ours in a butler pantry area which works out great. So far, there have been no issues with the device and it has been working flawlessly. Everyone enjoys chewing on the nugget ice.

Bought the Insignia due to the price and 44lbs per day rating. After a few days I couldn't resist also trying the Opal 2.0 because of the external storage tank. I put them head to head to decide which to keep. The Insignia produces ice 25% faster. 3 lbs 3 oz in 2 hours. The Opal produces 2 lbs 8 oz in the same 2 hours. Which is 25% better than its 1lb per hour rating. The quality of ice from each is the same. Insignia is nice a crunchy and has a square shape. Opal is nice and crunchy with a cylindrical shape. The drawer in the Opal is easier to open. The Opal is quieter. The external water storage is much more convenient to refill. In the end I am keeping the Opal because for me the pluses are worth the extra cost.

This was well worth the purchase. I spent about a month researching ice makers before settling on the Opal 2.0. I initially was going to get the insignia but came across some bad reviews on it. Ultimately, I paid $200 more but feel it was worth it with the use and quality we are getting. Its also nice javing the side resevoir so you don't have to refill the actual machine. My biggest complaint would be the price. Noext complaint is that it takes almost a full day to get it full of ice to where it's sustainable.

First off it's huge and takes up a LOT of counter space. It's also a tad heavy so moving it around to clean it can be a little awkward and when it's running the pump inside is not crazy loud but noticeable, it's actually louder than my dishwasher which can be an issue if you run it during a time you want peace and quiet. And lastly the App does not work AT ALL so forget about scheduling times for it to make ice. Other than that this thing makes great ice FAST. You turn it on and 10-15 minutes later it's already dropping nuggets

Finally! A nugget ice maker that compares to So of ice! We’ve had this ice maker for almost a year and we absolutely love it! I suggest making sure you buy the water tank. We go through so much ice every day and I can’t imagine not having the tank. It makes ice fast. Make sure you use filtered or distilled water which is even better. We didn’t at first and now our ice maker has a mineral buildup. If it quits working it will be our fault. I would definitely buy one again though!

When my in the door ice maker on my fridge stopped working (water keeps damming up and freezing in a big block), I originally purchased a “regular” countertop ice maker. It worked fine, but was very difficult to clean and didn’t make the ice in the soft pellets. When it stopped working after a year or so, I bit the bullet and purchased the Opal 2.0 and am so glad I did. The ice is fabulous, it makes ice quickly and makes plenty enough to keep us stocked. The set up and initial cleaning was a breeze. The side water reservoir makes adding water easy. The auto clean feature is a huge plus! And did I say the soft ice pellets are fabulous? Expensive, but for me, it is worth it!
