Been going strong for months now. Works fast, works great. I wish the ice cubes were larger though, but it is what it is. They are like M&M size (not peanut), so if you’re expecting large cubes, you’ll be disappointed. Otherwise it is easy to setup, easy to use. WiFi works great. I hear there is a trick to hook it up to running water, but that takes some craftiness not something the manufacturer suggests or recommends.

Ice of my dreams but 6 months old and failing :(

So I’ve been watching these icemakers for over three years. I wasn’t ready until now to fork out the money to purchase one for myself. I’ve seen how many problems I’ve had over the years with the first couple of models not lasting. I’m not one to really splurge on myself especially when I’m unsure if it will last. I was one of your weekly sonic ice buyers. Just going there coming back home living in Florida sing how much melts on the way home re-bagging the ice and always trying to find space in my freezer for it. Most of it was useless in the end because when it froze it was just huge lumps I was always keeping little hammers around the hammer the ice. I know my youngest daughter avoided me for a while because she didn’t wanna go on one of my weekly ice runs Lol. So I figured out the cost of how much I spent nearly on sonic ice and the cost of this machine. It literally was about 10 bucks give or take a little the amount I yearly spent on ice or purchasing this unit. I paid off my car and I’ve been thinking about it since. So one weekend I got brave and I said I’m just gonna go get it because Best Buy keeps it in stock now. I’m in love complete love the best thing that has ever happened to me LOL. Well maybe besides my grandchildren ha ha. But I find myself worrying daily when it might break down. I literally can’t live without my ice. Well I’ve had this unit for six months now and about a week ago it started making the squealing sounds :(( so of course what’s the first thing we do we Google it. I read information saying basically there can be built up minerals on the ace producer up top. That you put a napkin soaked in vinegar in there overnight. So did all that cleaned it out blah blah blah. Now when I turn it on it makes that continuous squealing noise it’s absolutely horrible. I’m so sad I think it’s dying already :( my worst fears have come true. I came on here looking for the purchase date because I did have Covid earlier this year and now I have brain fog I really thought I bought it in February and I actually bought at the end of May. So now I have to figure out who I need to contact and what can be done :( I absolutely love this machine but why can’t they seem to get it to have longevity. I’m praying and hoping they stand by their product. I will update when I figure out what happens and what will be done. I guess they still need to work the kinks out sadly.

    Great Machine, One design flaw/improvement.

Compared to other icemakers I have had, this one is by far the most quiet. The Wi-Fi features are kind of a gimmick and the app you have to use is barely functioning at best. Another feature that this icemaker has is when you open the drawer, the machine stops making ice until you close the door. This might not seem like a big deal, but it is. These nugget makers continuously produce ice until it reaches the full bin cut off point. Other machines make ice even when the door is open, which means ice just falls down into your water reservoir. As far as the side tank is concerned, it is nice to be able to see how much water is left, but don't make the mistake I did and fill your reservoir and then fill your side tank. If you do, you will have to clean up some water. When you fill the reservoir first, it flows over into the base of the side tank holder. It will create a situation where when you put the tank down into base the water already in there will be pushed up and out causing a mess. This only has happened on the first fill up ever. I suppose you could pinch off the hose when doing it, but that seems like a hassle. This is a great machine with only a single minor design flaw. The side tank. It should be able to be filled from the top. I knew it was like it is when I purchased it, so it is nothing against the machine, but more of an idea to make it better. Last thing, the top surface seems to scratch/mar very easily. I have only sat mugs/cups on the top of my machine or the gallon water jugs while filling it. It shows many minor imperfections now. This is after only about a week of ownership.

This is my second GE2 Opal. I did buy the extended warranty this time!! Best Buy actually has a good extended coverage program. First one lasted just over a year. Long enough for the warranty to be void. Love the ice. On the new o e the water line shoots out into the ice bin & makes the ice look melted like it’s been sitting in water. Not the case of maker 1. When I called GE I was told this was normal if I was disappointed to return it. I feel they don’t care & only make them last for the year. There should be a class action suit against GE or at the very least a coupon to put towards a new unit. Also they do not offer any replacement parts to remedy any problems.

Decided to replace our Opal 1.0 with this model as it is just a little shorter and would fit under the cabinet adjacent to our kitchen sink. Much easier than carrying water all the way across the room to fill the unit. That said, the redesigned features on this latest iteration of the Opal are terrific. The ice bucket is better insulated and will keep ice a bit longer. The switch from Bluetooth to wireless for the app operations (scheduling, etc.) works much smoother. The side mounted extra water chamber is terrific. When filling the old model, the ice bucket had to be removed to pour the water in, this invariably resulted in water dripping from the bucket all over the counter, machine, and floor. The side tank completely solves these problems. If you like nugget ice, you will love this machine!

We can’t live without the little gems of ice this beauty dispenses! Three pieces of hopefully helpful advice for buyers. When starting to make ice leave the container open about 2” for the first few minutes while it fills up the water reservoir, this avoids getting water in the bin. Discard the first couple of batches as the ice is not really firm and set. If you have the side water tank don’t wait until the ice maker indicates it’s empty to refill it, this avoids starting the ice making process from the get go all over again. I usually refill it when there is about an inch of water still visible.

We were tired of the small ice maker in our fridge constantly running out of ice so we bought the GE Opal 2.0 ice maker. After a few weeks of daily use, we’re happy with our purchase. Quickly makes ice and it’s not as loud as others mentioned. The app needs work. Connected to the ice maker, set up a schedule, and then it wouldn’t connect the next time I tried. Guess I need to go back to the instructions to reconnect. Not a big issue. Definitely recommend this ice maker.

This is our second GE Profile Opal - our previous one was the first generation. It is great to have a steady supply of nugget ice right in our kitchen. While the holding bin is a bit small, the production of ice is quick enough that we rarely find that we are waiting for more (even when we have guests over). It definitely requires a bit of attention, though, in that you need to clean it (easy but takes 20 minutes or so) regularly to keep the ice fresh. We have not noticed any increase in our electric bill as a result of having the Opal - we have it programmed to turn off at night and to resume ice production in the morning. Overall, we are very happy with this purchase.

I love this machine! For someone who has it all but enjoys that "good, chewy ice" the Opal 2 is the one to get. It works like a dream though it does make some noise as it does it's thing. I would not call it distracting unless you live in total silence. It makes ice very quickly and in about 3 hours you have a tray full of that icy goodness. Plan an placing it near a sink or drain as keeping up with maintenance means draining and cleaning it once a week. The hoses included give you about 18 inches of clearance to the sink. You can get away with moving it each time you want to clean it but it is heavy as countertop kitchen appliances go. It is a quality devices and that's apparent as soon as you take it out of the box. I feel no expense was spared. Buy it with confidence!

I had just bought this ice maker and I love it so far! I love the kind of us that it makes! Iv'e owned different counter top ice makers in the past and nothing compares to this one. I would definitely buy this again. After reading all of the reviews i decided to take my chances. Like I said I only had it for a couple weeks now and its been running great. At times you can hear it a little but nothing to where it bothers me. I went ahead and bought the warranty just in case. A lot of reviews said to just get it so i did. Hope I never have to use it!

We have been using the GE Profile - Opal 2.0 24-lb. Portable Ice maker with Nugget Ice Production, Side Tank and Built-in WiFi, for about 2 months now. This is working great at keeping up with the ice usage of 2 adults and 2 kids (12 & 10). After letting this fill up on ice the first day we are now able to have ice when ever we want. Every so often it makes a low squeaking sound, but goes away fairly quickly. The side water tank is a definite need to keep up with our ice needs. The soft crunchy ice is exactly what we were looking for. One of our kids has braces and likes to chew ice, so this helps to prevent damage to the braces. Very happy with this purchase.

I love this ice machine and the water tank on the side makes it so easy not to worry about filling it up so that the machine can make more ice. every time you open the ice drawer and close it the machine starts to do its thing making more ice. the only upsetting thing about this machine is that you get water drops every time the ice drawer is open. It also take a lot of counter space and its bulky. I had to order this item 3 times because I kept receiving a use machine.

I perchased an ic maker for my wife that was about $250. Just ended up living with it until we we could get a better one. We reslly like the tank tgat is easly removable for refill, the amount of ice made in a fast time, and the best chewable ice. No more having to drive to Sonic for a bag of their ice, not a bad option until you can buy this one though.

I love the Opal, now the GE profile. I was an early investor and have been loyal to them. The ice is fantastic. With that said, NEVER buy this machine without the extended warranty! The 2.0 is a huge upgrade, but there is still a MASSIVE chance that the machine will stop making ice regularly, starting making LOUD noises during operation, or that the electronics system will fritz. I've exchanged numerous machines over the years- There are just too many systems on this device that can and WILL fail. It's awesome, but protect yourself.

So far so good, ice production is plentiful and you get the “good ice”. Setup was very straightforward but did take a little time with the cleaning to flush the system. I like that you can easily set up schedules in the app. Only complaints the gasket on the side tank falls out easily so be careful when you are taking apart to wash it. When we first started using the unit was making a squeaky sound as the ice was dispensing. It was a little concerning but stoped on its own. Since then it has been very quiet. The other complaint is when you pull open the ice bin water will drip off the bottom, the drip tray catches it but it’s good to have a towel near by

I recently purchased the GE Profile 2.0 38-lb. Portable Ice Maker and I couldn't be happier with my decision. This little machine has exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, convenience, and versatility. From the moment I unpacked it, I was impressed by its compact design. It doesn't take up much counter space, making it perfect for my small kitchen or even for taking on camping trips. Setting it up was a breeze, and within minutes, I had fresh ice ready to go. One of the standout features for me is the speed at which it produces ice. In no time, I can have a full batch of ice cubes, and it's incredibly handy when unexpected guests arrive or for those hot summer days when ice is in constant demand. I also appreciate the ice maker's versatility. Whether I need ice for drinks, cooling a cooler, or even for a makeshift ice pack, this machine has proven to be a reliable and indispensable addition to my kitchen. Cleaning is a breeze too. The removable parts are easy to disassemble and clean, ensuring that the ice produced is always fresh and free from any lingering flavors. In conclusion, the Portable Ice Maker has become an essential part of my kitchen. Its compact size, quick operation, and overall efficiency make it a standout choice for anyone in need of a reliable and convenient ice maker. I highly recommend it to others looking for a hassle-free solution to their ice needs.
