Best around
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our second one they make the best ice and we always have plenty even when we have all the family over for dinner and drinks. Easy to care for easy to clean where we live the hard water will damage the ice maker. We use bottled distilled water and have no problems. The wifi is really useless but it’s fun to show people

Great, expensive, but great
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ice is very good. Do not buy it without the tank on the side. You will be constantly filling that reservoir if you don’t have it. It can get quite loud, even with adequate room for ventilation, so be aware of that

Sonic Ice
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the BEST icemaker! I decided to buy this one, because the previous one that I owned did not have the side tank and could not keep enough ice for everyone in my house.

Very Good but not worth the price & time of upkeep
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros - Makes ice as fast as our family of 4 can use it. The side tank is the best, as you don't have to remove the ice bin to refill the water. The SmartHQ app works well and great for scheduling on/off to give it a break overnight. Fantastic design, it's beautiful. It even fits on my counter neatly. Cons - Descaling regularity is awful. Every 7-10 days, you have to buy 2 quarts of vinegar and spend 18 hours descaling it. For those 18 hours, you have zero ice. If you can get one for $300, it's probably worth it compared to the price of others.

GE Opal 2.0 ice maker
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this but the only problem is that once you buy it Best Buy has nothing to do with it after the 15 or 30 days of it . I bought it and after barely 4 months it started making a really loud noise. Best Buy told me I had to call GE ( not a problem because I do understand). The problem lies with GE Opal . Living in Alaska you will have to pay for shipping $110. Not cool at all and they only sent the ice maker and not the water tank . They told me to throw the old one away and did not make their self very clear .

Don’t Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first, the unit makes great ice... then it starts to make ridiculously loud whining noises (about 2-3 months after install). We love the ice, but the machine is already about to die. I hope GE stands behind it. Unfortunately, some quick searches online indicate that it’s going to be a problem. I wish I hadn’t spent this kind of money on this unit. I could’ve bought 5 different units at $100 each and been further ahead. Disappointed.

Great product, but didn't last long.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fell in love with this product and the ice it produced until it write working only 4 months after purchasing. GE support is very difficult, currently having to rely on a Facebook group for support on how to go forward. If you plan to purchase go ahead and pay for the 2-year warranty if you want to insure a working product for more than a year.

The good ice
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product can be a little finicking and requires cleaning and maintenance can be a little much but if you are a ice cruncher it is so worth it.

Posted .Hello- This is an excellent model that is a "must have" when you are an "ice cruncher". If the water well is filled to the upper fill line and no ice is being produced, please perform this simple test: 1. Please start the Opal and switch to cleaning mode. Don't forget to detach the side tank. 2. Remove the screen/filter at the bottom corner of the reservoir, exposing the small white rubber inlet used for water circulation. 3. Make certain that the Opal is not connected to the phone app and that the water well is filled to the upper fill line with distilled water. 4. Remove the ice bin and press the button to see if the Opal pumps water. This could take up to 5 minutes to start. 5. Plug the small inlet with your finger for 10-15 seconds to create a vacuum within the pump/circulation system. 6. Release the plug and wait a minute or until you see water movement. 7. If you do not see a change, you may want to repeat these steps a couple of times. Note: If you see water movement, please switch to ice mode and run for 30 minutes. **You may also need to prime your pump so try using a Turkey Baster/Injector and gently fill the hose that doesn't go to the side tank with water, and then restart the machine. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to OnPoint directly by calling 1-866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST. We are glad that you feel the Good Ice is worth it! If you have any questions, please let us know. We are here to help! Joyce@GEA

Great ice machine
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great ice maker. A bit pricey but makes the good ice for drinks. Not as loud as some point out but designed for use in kitchen or bar area. Set up is pretty straight forward and once it’s up an running, just need to keep adding water to have continuous ice making.

Opal nugget ice maker...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've owned this a month today and we are really happy with it. I read in the reviews that it makes noise and yes, because it's making ice. It's very minimal and not bad at all. If you have the TV on, you won't even notice it. It makes great nugget ice like Sonic. I don't have anything negative to say about it.

You need to really want it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a lot of work. I truly love having pebble ice at home, so it’s worth it. The cleaning cycle is time consuming. I use distilled water to cut down on the descaling cycles. I don’t have any problems with noises like some other reviews. It’s just time consuming to keep up with it. I also don’t love that you can’t keep ice in it. It turns off and melts, so I put any ice I don’t use in a stasher bag in the freezer. I love the ice it makes, so it’s worth it. Also I cannot make the WiFi work.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. Every now and then, there is a squeek as it makes ice. But, overall fairly quiet. It was gift for my wife, but we all use that ice over the fridge ice. Produces plenty of ice...keeps up with a house of five!! Let's just hope it lasts to justify the purchase.

Don’t buy unless you really love nugget ice!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an Opal last nearly 4 years and I loved it. The maintenance routine will tell you whether or not this product is for you as you have to do continual maintenance on it. Each cleaning cycle takes time, so I watch sports and run the next cycle during commercials; That way I’m not just standing there watching paint dry. *** Update: After 3 weeks of use, it started making a funny noise that was so loud you couldn’t talk over it; I was disappointed because I bought mine as an open box, and returning it would mean I would be forced to pay more. I took it back and got a replacement. I unpacked, and cleaned my replacement so I could start making ice. I ran the cleaning cycle 1-2 times more than they recommend just to ensure I’d get clean, tasty ice, However, that didn’t happen. The ice has a funky taste to it.,. I use bottled water or water from a Zero water device to make ice, as well as clean my Opal for taste, to potentially reduce the build up of scale. Additionally, I looked at the Bluetooth devices under settings, but the Opal isn’t listed. I gave the app a try too, but it took forever, and still couldn’t find the Opal. I have no choice but to return it for a 3rd attempt. The Opal is a fairly new product, and new procedures, and maintenance requirements change mean you’re always playing catch up instead of making ice. When I contacted First Build about my original ice maker, they asked if I had taken the additional steps that weren’t mentioned in the instructions! Another time they asked me if I had poured white vinegar on a paper towel and let it side for 15 hours+ to break up the scale on the shoot. Back when Jawbone released a new Up, I had 5-6 defective ones before I got a working one. Best Buy noted the pattern of high return rates and flagged my account so I couldn’t return anything for a year. I was an Elite Plus member, and sent them a letter acknowledging the high return rate, and pointed out how much money I had spent there that year. If Best Buy purchases and sells defective products, that isn’t my fault. After a week or so, they lifted the restriction they placed on my account. At one point Best Buy asked me if I’d like to participate in their Tech Insiders Network, but I never got a response. I reached out to them and they said it was delayed a week or two, and would get back to me. They never did. I kept asking for updates, and eventually they stopped responding. I like Best Buy, and I want them to succceed. These are really simple problems that could be easily solved or avoided altogether. I have extended warranties on everything I buy from BB, and I’m also a member of their total tech support program. I’m practically walking distance to my BB. However, if I keep having problems like these, I’ll switch to Amazon. The extended warranties are cheaper at Amazon, but you have to wait vs going to Best Buy and coming home with a replacement. Note- My survey responses are based on the two broken Opals I had to return. If I had one that worked as well as my first one, I’d give it all 4-5 stars.

I Love Ice!
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Probably the best ice make you can buy. I didn't how much I would use ice if it was readily available. Only buy this product if you get it with the water tank on the side of it. Otherwise you will be refilling the machine too often.

This is the Good Ice maker!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the one! If you want “good ice” like from sonic, this is the maker. Attractive for countertops, makes enough ice for 2 easily. I had read reviews that it was loud, it’s not that loud. Fill the tank and let it go! Saves me trips to sonic for bags and wife is overjoyed!

||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my favorite kitchen appliance next to my coffee maker! Love the size of ice and how fast it makes. It has WiFi so I can control when I want to turn it on/off even has a schedule you can put it on! Great feature is that it will recycle the water that melts from ice to make more!

Best ice maker on the market
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are addicted to this ice maker. My son teased me at first until he tried the ice. Now we fight over it. We use this constantly since we purchased. The only thing that scares me is it sounds really loud as if it’s going to die. Please do t ever die on us.

About as close to Sonic ice as you can get
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I'm really enjoying this machine. I appreciate the fact that I can use filtered water and not necessarily tap water. It was somewhat of an impulse buy, but everybody is so glad that I did. It does make the drinks a little more enjoyable. This type of ice takes much longer to melt than your typical cubes. I know there were more than an average number of complaints about them lifespan of this machine. For that reason I purchased the extended plan just in case. But so far I haven't had any problems. It takes about 3 16 oz bottles of water to fill up the main reservoir which will create about two and a half buckets of ice. There is a version of the machine without the water tank. If you're a family of three or four, definitely get the water tank version. But if it's just you, the less expensive non side tank version will likely suffice.
