Nice ice, but makes horrible sound

This does not happen all of the time, but fairly often. We returned the first unit we purchased and got a second one. The second one makes the exact same sound. We previously had an older model of this unit, and it quit making ice after a couple of years.

It doesn’t last very long before it breaks down. I checked that I would recommend people getting this, but only if you buy the warranty. We’re on our third one.

If you’re currently having any issue with your Opal, we have troubleshooting available in an article on our GE Appliances website, titled “Opal Ice Maker – Troubleshooting”. That article can be viewed when you look up the title on our website and click the ‘Support’ tab. Among other steps, resetting the Opal by disconnecting it from power for three to four hours before reconnecting can often help with an issue. If you’re having an issue with your Opal that troubleshooting doesn’t help with and you have an active extended warranty, please reach out to them for assistance. If you don’t have an extended warranty and need assistance, please send us a private message via Facebook, Instagram, X, or TikTok with your contact information, complete model/serial numbers, and a description of the issue; we’ll be glad to review.

The Most Popular Appliance in Our Kitchen!

So, this is the third Opal 2.0 Ultra Ice machine we have purchased. To be sure, the scale inhibiting filter will need to be replaced every month or so, and proper sanitization and cleaning is simply a fact of life with these machines. We always use tap water to make ice. We make sure to clean and sanitize the unit and replace the filter on a monthly basis. I went ahead and bought the 4 year extended maintenance plan offered by BestBuy for each of the machines..."just in case", but have never had to use that service. Bottom line is that this Opal 2.0 Ultra Ice Machine is probably the most used appliance in our kitchen and is definitely the most popular appliance with our guests...All of our visiting friends have LOVED it! Go ahead and buy one, you (and your friends) won't regret it!

The only reason for giving 4 star in place of 5 is because I went round and round (over 30 mins) with the silly call center while trying to get in contact with my local store. (And they still didn’t help me). The foreign, barely-speak-English call center is a joke and not helpful whatsoever. They just keep transferring you off to someone else. The ice maker is great though.

I’ve had other older models and they all have had this same problem. I was hoping by upgrading, that this problem would be resolved, but it’s not. If it wasn’t for that issue, it would be a 5 star rating.
