Posted .We’d like to provide information about your Opal. We suggest only using distilled water in your Opal, to help reduce the potential for mineral buildup. It is recommended that you follow the instructions in the owner’s manual for your unit regarding the schedule of running descaling and sanitizing cycles. Using vinegar in the descaling cycle can help break up the minerals as well. The manual is available in the ‘Features’ section of the Best Buy product page, when you scroll to the bottom of the section; care and cleaning is discussed starting on page 7. It’s important to note that distilled water is different from bottled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, or spring water. All of these other options contain varying levels of minerals that can build up in the unit and impede optimal operation. Using distilled water reduces the frequency of descaling and cleaning. You can also use our scale-inhibiting filter if you wish, which is part P4INKSFLTR, to increase the time between cleanings and reduce the solidification of scale. GE 2.0 nugget icemaker

I had the 1.0 nugget ice maker it did break. They honored the Warenty put the difference in and got this one. It's a little pricey, but very nice be prepared to have to clean it every week

This one has a few improvements over the old one. The ice making stops when you open the ice box, and the box folds out further. It also appears that the ice making pauses if you haven't opened the box in awhile - power saving feature? Not sure I like that, but overall this machine does the job well! Pricey! Get it when on sale - we got $100 off.

Very quiet and quick, ice is delicious! One note if you use a lot of ice, you may need to run the clean/sanitize function more frequently.

It’s the good ice for sure. I only use geyser spring water and the ice OMG… taste so good. It’s worth the money. Best investment thus far. I would say the cleaning is somewhat time consuming but I haven’t done my first deep clean or scale clean since I’ve only had it for a month. I would recommend this product.

The instructions to connect to wi-fi absolutely do not work and I had to call for support. Someone needs to rewrite the instructions for this.

I like to chew ice, and my wife made me purchase an icemaker that has the soft chewable ice to protect my teeth. This thing is awesome. I love the ice texture and it’s perfect for every drink I have. Definitely by the side tank with it because you’ll be refilling it a lot if you don’t.

The new version has a filter but you have to replace it every few months

So far it isn’t as noisy as some of the other reviews say it is, so that’s a plus. Love the water tank on the side, it keeps me from refilling the water so often.
