    I love the ice but the product is only two weeks old and making noises

    This was a replacement for a older unit (same one) via Bestbuy protection plan. We set this up as instructed and it had a horribly loud compressor noise. It was unbearable, so much that it vibrated our countertop. We immediately returned the new unit and purchased another. So far, so good (knock on wood)

    My wife and I love this ice maker. Just the right size for us. Keep it clean the way GE recommends and you should get the results you want.

    Don’t Buy It

    First off, we strictly sanitize and descale early, even though that means about every 3 weeks, we’re going through that lengthy process. It also sits on the open counter with more than the recommended air gap. We also clean the air intake every time we shut down for the descaling/sanitizing. So, the following makes no sense, except for the lack of quality on this thing: At 2 months old, pump refused to prime with descaling filter on, giving the notorious “out of water” message. Bought a new descaling filter - still refused to prime 80% of time. Removed the descaling filter, pump refuses to prime 50% of time. For reference, our tap water is low-medium hardness. When the pump does prime, often by manually plugging the intake with a finger, the ice maker whines and grinds after operating about 10 minutes. After about 10 minutes of that, it goes into defrosting mode. The process repeats itself. Going through the warranty process since it’s only 6 months old. We’ll see how that ends up, but not optimistic. Don’t buy it. The ice isn’t worth it.

    besides the constant cleaning and the software issue with the descale light on all the time, it works. I still clean it every few weeks with citric acid. I wish I could figure out why the descale light stays on even though I followed instructions to the T.

      If you have already ran a full descale on your unit and the light is still on or flashing. A flashing cleaning light can indicate that the filter on your model needs to be replaced. Once you replace the filter and turn on the machine, the indicator will stop blinking. More information about the filter can be found in the manual on the website on page 10.     Icemaker was great in the beginning made plenty of ice about 4 months in of ownership it just quite making ice. It would light up saying making ice for about 5 seconds then just stop

    Ice cubes are small, but it reminds me of the ice from Sonic fast food restaurants. My favorite!

    I wish I ould give 5 starts because I've absolutely loved previous Opal's I've had...but I have had immediate mechanical issues now with two back to back received units. I hope it's not an indication of a persistent production issue. I will have to return this latest one I just unpacked and set up. Darn.

    Makes ice but come to find out that there is a software issue that cause the descale light to come on. This issue came out in July and we bought this ice market in mid September

      We want to help with any issue you're having with the Descale light. We recommend making sure you've performed the full cleaning and descaling process; care and cleaning instructions are available starting on page 7 of the manual. That manual can be viewed on the Best Buy product page when you pull up the 'Features' section and scroll to the bottom. If you're still seeing the light after performing the full process, we recommend disconnecting the unit from power for 3 to 4 hours before reconnecting. If you continue to have an issue after resetting, please send us a private message via our GE Appliances Facebook, Instagram, X, or TikTok with your contact information, the complete model/serial numbers, and a copy of this review.
