It doesn’t last very long before it breaks down. I checked that I would recommend people getting this, but only if you buy the warranty. We’re on our third one.

If you’re currently having any issue with your Opal, we have troubleshooting available in an article on our GE Appliances website, titled “Opal Ice Maker – Troubleshooting”. That article can be viewed when you look up the title on our website and click the ‘Support’ tab. Among other steps, resetting the Opal by disconnecting it from power for three to four hours before reconnecting can often help with an issue. If you’re having an issue with your Opal that troubleshooting doesn’t help with and you have an active extended warranty, please reach out to them for assistance. If you don’t have an extended warranty and need assistance, please send us a private message via Facebook, Instagram, X, or TikTok with your contact information, complete model/serial numbers, and a description of the issue; we’ll be glad to review.

No need for freezer icemaker esp thru the door which always has problems. Also that you don't have to collect and move the ice out like other portable ice makers. Had first model for 2 1_/2 years. Replaced after first one died Be sure to buy B Buy warranty.

We were on vacation in Santa Rosa Beach Florida. We had sixteen people staying at the rental house. The ice maker in the refrigerator was terrible. We ran out and bought the Opal 2.0 Ultra. It worked like a champ out of the box and it is being used in our kitchen right now. Great product!

I’ve had other older models and they all have had this same problem. I was hoping by upgrading, that this problem would be resolved, but it’s not. If it wasn’t for that issue, it would be a 5 star rating.

Posted .Our Opal is a complex device that combines electrical and mechanical components such as a compressor, pump, motors and fans to deliver perfect nugget ice. These components power on at different times during the ice making cycle. There will be some sounds associated with the running of these components. These normal sounds typically cease after 10 to 45 minutes within the ice making cycle. Hard surfaces like the floor, walls and countertops can amplify these sounds. From the shape to the crunch it goes into any drink from moscow mules to your kids apple juice. Cleaning is easy and quiet operation.

GE 2.0 nugget icemaker

I had the 1.0 nugget ice maker it did break. They honored the Warenty put the difference in and got this one. It's a little pricey, but very nice be prepared to have to clean it every week
