Love that you can schedule when it turns on and off. We had the prior model and this model produces more crunchable ice. Very pleased with the purchase.

this is a great nugget ice machine, this is my 3rd one. the 1st 2 i bought where cheaper and just didn't work good. worth the money.

Love the Ice, but you definitely have to keep up with the maintenance in order to keep the machine working properly.

This is my third one. I always buy the protection plan for this type of appliance that has water flowing through it full time. They've made a lot of improvements. This one is much quieter. My first one failed most likely because of too much hard water scale build-up and I was seeing mold in the ice. The replacement had a new feature to light up and remind me when it needs to be cleaned and descaled. I was diligent about doing that often, but it developed an internal leak. This newest one lights up to remind me to descale it and lights up more often to remind me to sanitize it. The cleaning process has a quick clean for sanitization and long clean for descaling. I've owned other countertop ice makers in the past that were terrible. This GE Opal is the best, I highly recommend it for performance but also highly recommend you don't take this home without a protection plan. Both of mine lasted just over 2 years, and with all the improvements they've made on this one, you should get the 4 year plan.

It makes fantastic ice… but it is wildly unusable. My first machine lasted 2 weeks before it started making noises like a demon being exorcized from a shrieking cat. It is so loud I can hear it FROM DOWN THE ROAD when I’m walking my dog. It’s a wonder my neighbors never made a noise complaint. I returned it and got a new one. The new one lasted an entire month before it started doing the same thing. If I didn’t live in an apartment, I’d just buy a new fridge with a good ice maker in it. If you own a home, honestly do that. Save yourself the trouble and your hearing.

This is my second opal. The first one lasted about 6 years. One of the best gifts ever! Wonderful ice!

Best purchase! We kept running out of ice during our family gatherings. Since we picked the GE Profile Ice Maker, there has been no more issues with running out of ice. This ice maker makes perfect size nuggets and will always be full.

It is quiet, works great, makes double the ice of the last machine that i had. Looks better. Side tank holds more water for less refilling.

I owned the first generation, 1.0, which kept breaking but made incredible ice. This new 2.0 also made ice fast and plenty of it, but it only lasted four months until the wailing from the machine started again. This machine seemed more robust in its build, but the engineers needed to fix the part that pushed the ice out. That's whats making the noise. I am so disappointed, as it works great when it works!

I am extremely pleased with this ice maker. It produces consistently perfect ice every time, and it has proven to be well worth the investment. The included metal ice scoop, along with the convenient side attachment, is a thoughtful addition—no more searching for the scoop, as it now hangs neatly in plain view. Overall, an excellent product. All I can say is: ICE, ICE, BABY!

Bought this ice maker in Aug 2025. Makes plenty of ice but makes a terrible growling sound when the ice maker is moving ice to the storage bin. Looking online this seems to be a common gearbox issue. I will be looking to return for repairs or hopefully replacement.

This is our 3rd or fourth one and the auger is a continual problem. It makes a horrible screeching noise. For the price this is disappointing. You would think GE works do something about this. We will be returning and getting a whole different Ice maker and brand. So unfortunate because we believe this makes the best ice nuggets. We may be wrong though.

I am on my 3rd opal ice maker. The first one stopped working one week after warranty expired, said i woukdnt own another one. I wound up buying it agsin on sale and purchased ot with the savings! Yep, barely out of one year watranty, it died! Replaced it under extended warranty and i purchased another warranty. Works great when it works, just dies after about a year. Extremely noisy!!!
