The cleaning process can be tedious but it is totally worth it. I would recommend cleaning weekly with water, vinegar, and bleach. Or you can purchase ice machine cleaner online.

It seems like it decides when it's done working and you can't figure out why or what you've done wrong. It's not you babe...it's GE. The only reason I've had 3 now is because I buy the extended warranty and have gotten 2 new replacement machines in the span of 2 years which is insane. For costing so much, it should last. I've gotten about 6-9 months out of each machine which is hilarious that they aren't fixing its issues. I do everything I'm supposed to do with cleaning and basic maintenance and it still stops working. Get your crap together GE!

Posted .We would like to help and provide some information. We recommend only using distilled water in your Opal to help reduce the potential for mineral buildup. It is recommended that you follow the instructions in the owner’s manual for your unit regarding the schedule of running descaling and sanitizing cycles. Using vinegar in the descaling cycle can help break up the minerals as well.
It’s important to note that distilled water is different from bottled water, reverse osmosis water, filtered water, or spring water. All of these other options contain varying levels of minerals that can build up in the unit and impede optimal operation. Using distilled water reduces the frequency of descaling and cleaning. Using our scale-inhibiting filter, part P4INKSFLTR, is designed to increase the time between cleanings and reduces the solidification of scale.
It is recommended that there be at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal to allow proper air flow so that the fan can move air about the unit.

GREAT PURCHASE

I thought at first that it was a want not a need. It turns out that now I can't see my home without it. It was a good and useful purchase for my home and family, The ice is addicting, good taste and chewable.

Posted .We recommend using distilled water if you aren't already. Also, please try the full descaling process. This can be found on pages 7-8 in your manual. Upgraded Model and so much better!

We had the Total Best Buy Membership so we were able to return it and get the Ultra model. So much better with a metal scoop, air filter, and descale filter in the box. It is also built better than the regular model. Love it so far!

Add Water

Owned for 4 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this ice maker a little over 4 months, in the time I have had it, it repeatedly will say “Add Water” even though it is full. Every time I “clean” (sanitize) the ice maker this becomes an issue. It will also not pull water from the side tank after “cleaning”, like it doesn’t register that it is there. I have “primed the pump” every time and usually resort to having to turn it off for a day & then turn it back on, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If I could return this and get my $$ back, I would at this point. Yes it makes awesome nugget ice when it works, but this issue is extremely aggravating and should not be happening to a +$500 machine after only having it for 4 months. I wish I had just stuck with the $100 nugget maker that you have to fill up more often.

It works non stop. I usually don't use ice, until we bought this machine. I love the nugget ice machine, I now out ice in my water.
