    Great ice — for a little while! For a machine this price, I would expected it to work for a few years, not about 7 months. And of course they told me afterwards to use distilled water. Are you kidding me? Customer service was very slow in responding.

    I LOVE THE ice it makes. But its the thrid one ive bought because the other 2 stater to make this boise that was unbearable to hear. Bow im having to return this one too for the same reason.

    I just purchased this items and returned it because it started making a squealing sound. When I got my replacement item, it started doing the same thing within an hour after setting it up. This time, it started making a popping sound as well. I called GE because I thought I was doing something wrong. Turns out, they said this is a known issue. Their fix is to drain the machine and let it sit for 30 minutes and plug it back in. Mond you, the machine had not even made a full tub of ice at this point. This product is garbage.

    We had high expectations for this product and decided to purchase it based on prior experience with GE products. However, while it worked for a couple of weeks, it suddenly stopped making ice and GE customer support was useless and hard to deal with. Returned the first unit to Best Buy and the replacement unit was equally as bad. Replacement unit has not worked consistently, making ice sporadically and will be returned, as well. I expect for the price at the very least, good, solid support from a manufacturer. GE disappoints in this instance. Looks good, perfomrs poorly. 2 ⭐for aesthetics ONLY!

    This is the worst opal nugget ice maker I have ever purchased. I had to return the first one because of internal issues and now the replacement is having major issues just within the 4 weeks we had it. It freezes up several times a day, it makes shaved (slush) ice half of the time, the squeling and knocking of the machine becomes unbearable at times and we have to turn it off to get it to thaw out, which only works for a few hours before the issues start all over. We have cleaned it (sanitized and descaled) several times already and nothing has worked. This machine is a very expensive piece of junk.

    In less than a week it was making whining noises and having problems with low water even though the tank is full. My previous Opal lasted over 4 years and I doubt the new one would last more than 1 year.

Keep in mind there will be some noise associated with the Opal. These normal noises typically stop after 10 to 45 minutes within the ice making cycle. Hard surfaces like the floor, walls and countertops can amplify these sounds. We have a list on our site of normal sounds and also what is not considered normal. Please view our GE Appliances site.     Does not work and makes loud sound after cycle

    I bought this less than a month ago. From the first day I plugged it in, it started making a very loud sound. I attempted to return it with everything including the receipt, but since I was on day 16 (with a 14 day return policy) they refused to let me even do an even exchange. I asked to speak to a manager and was denied that right. I now have a very expensive ice maker that never worked to begin with.

    Ice is to wet. Water drains right through the ice bucket in between each set of cubes.

      When using the Opal Ice Maker for the first time, the initial batches of ice nuggets will be slushy. After about 30 minutes, your Opal should be making solid nuggets. If this isn't the case, we recommend you follow the tips in the support article on the GE Appliances website titled: "Opal Ice Maker - Ice is Slush."       To ensure your Opal continues to make the freshest and most delicious ice available, it is necessary to descale and sanitize the unit on a regular basis. How often it's needed will depend on the quality of your water. To prolong times between cleaning, you might consider using distilled water instead of tap.     I would give a 5 star, however, the light in the machine has completely stopped working. We have only had the machine for 6 months and the light stopped working about a week ago.

    Had it now for 2 weeks and can say I'm impressed. We've gone through a number of cheaper ice makers but this one is much better built, the filter keeps everything super clean, great piece of mind even though we fill it with RO water.
