    Not worth it, especially for the high price tag. It didnt even last 3 weeks before it started a really awful, obnoxious noise. I also had the Frigidaire prior, it did the same. All the countertop ice makers are junk.

The Opal Ice Maker is a complex device that combines electrical and mechanical components such as a compressor, pump, motors and fans to deliver perfect nugget ice. These components power on at different times during the ice making cycle. There will be some noise associated with the running of these components. These normal noises typically cease after 10 to 45 minutes within the ice making cycle. Hard surfaces like the floor, walls and countertops can amplify these sounds. Note: If the Ice Maker is making a continuous grinding noise, this is not normal. You can reach out to Opal Service by calling 1-866-907-6718, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, EST.     Awesome ice but problematic

    Only had for a month and already having problems. I actually bought two and both have had issues. One is squealing and the other says add water even though it has water in the tank.

    Quit making ice after 3 weeks...

    After 3 weeks, the machine stopped making ice. Setup was followed correctly too. The troubleshooting section in the manual is useless. It only describes the sounds the machine makes and possible causes of those sounds. No troubleshooting steps.

    When it works it is good, but have had return 6 different machines due to they quit working

      We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you've had with your Opal ice makers. Please make sure you are following the instructions in the Owner's Manual regarding descaling the unit every 2-3 weeks or more often depending on the hardness level of your water.     I was able to get through one bucket of ice then it started making extremely loud whining and grinding sounds. Buyer beware. Extended waranty is a must

      We want to help you with your Opal sounds and ice production. We recommend making sure your unit is producing normal sounds by checking the information in the article titled "Opal Ice Maker - Normal Sounds" on the GE Appliances website.

      Regarding your Opal not producing ice, we recommend checking that the ice bin is pushed all the way in place. and try to reset the Ice Maker by unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours. For more tips you can visit the article titled "Opal Ice Maker - Not Making Ice" on the GE Appliances website as well.

      If the issue persists after troubleshooting, we recommend calling our Opal team at 866-907-6718. GE_Appliances

    This thing broke down in less than a month and best buy wont honor an exchange of product claiming i bought it on sale. Had i bought this from amazon who was having the same sale it would have been replaced. Never buying best buy again. And they wonder why they are losing to amazon!

    This is the second ice machine I've purchased. The first one stopped working after 2 months. The second machine arrived broken. I am very disappointed with craftsmanship of this product!!!

    Not a great machine had to exchange it twice due to errors I'm coming across and customer service is terrible with trouble shooting it. It always says sanitize or add water.

    Recommend not buying due to materials

    My review is based not on its use but on the materials that are toxic. According to the message (should be a big red warning) the product contains Barium, Antimony, Arsenic, inorganic Arsenic and the list goes on.

    All sorts of issues on this according to users online. There are weird fixes like tilting it on its side to get it going again. Mine stopped making ice after 5 weeks. Best Buys awful return policy is 14 days buyer beware

    I paid $630 for a piece of equipment that broke before I had it 30 days and Best Buy says the item is no longer returnable. I have receipt and everything. 30 Days. What a great deal!

    Horrible ! Don’t waste ur time getting this , I bought 2 and it worked for 2-3 months then just quit . Got another one it worked for a month and kept telling me to add water , it had water in it ! For $600.00 plus you think it would be AMAZING ! Nope !!

      We certainly want to assist with any issue you're having with your Opal. The unit comes with a one-year warranty, and we're glad to offer assistance after that timeframe as well. We have troubleshooting available in an article on our GE Appliances website, titled "Opal Ice Maker - Troubleshooting"; you can view that when you look up the title and click the 'Support' tab. If the unit specifically isn't making ice, we also have an article about that on our GE Appliances website, titled "Opal Ice Maker - Not Making Ice". Among other tips, we recommend disconnecting the Opal from power for 3 to 4 hours; this resets the electrical components and can often solve an issue. If you aren't able to solve the issue you're having with troubleshooting, please send us a private message over our GE Appliances social media (such as Facebook or Instagram) with a copy of this review, any confirmation number you may have, the model/serial numbers and any proof of purchase you have, and your contact information.
