    Great ice — for a little while! For a machine this price, I would expected it to work for a few years, not about 7 months. And of course they told me afterwards to use distilled water. Are you kidding me? Customer service was very slow in responding.

    This is our 3rd Opal ice maker and this one is a bust. Sanitize light will not go off, once bin is full is will not start making ice again until the unit is unplugged and plugged back in, GE support was no help, before they will even open a warranty case I have to provide multiple pictures and a video to demonstrate what it is doing. Very frustrating.

    We love our nugget maker however we are on our 2nd machine in two weeks that just starts making a loud cranking sound.

      We are glad to assist with your Opal making a cranking sound. We recommend unplugging the unit and fully defrost it to make sure there is no ice buildup. You will than need to clean the auger and ice bin to clear any possible blockages. Also make sure the unit is on a level surface. Refer to the link below for guidance:

    Does not work and makes loud sound after cycle

    I bought this less than a month ago. From the first day I plugged it in, it started making a very loud sound. I attempted to return it with everything including the receipt, but since I was on day 16 (with a 14 day return policy) they refused to let me even do an even exchange. I asked to speak to a manager and was denied that right. I now have a very expensive ice maker that never worked to begin with.

    Great product but the light isn’t working anymore

    I would give a 5 star, however, the light in the machine has completely stopped working. We have only had the machine for 6 months and the light stopped working about a week ago.

Keep in mind there will be some noise associated with the Opal. These normal noises typically stop after 10 to 45 minutes within the ice making cycle. Hard surfaces like the floor, walls and countertops can amplify these sounds. We have a list on our site of normal sounds and also what is not considered normal. Please view our GE Appliances site.     Ice is to wet. Water drains right through the ice bucket in between each set of cubes.

      When using the Opal Ice Maker for the first time, the initial batches of ice nuggets will be slushy. After about 30 minutes, your Opal should be making solid nuggets. If this isn't the case, we recommend you follow the tips in the support article on the GE Appliances website titled: "Opal Ice Maker - Ice is Slush."     The machine was amazing for the first week. Then it started to decide to stop and work on and off for about 2 months before it finally just stopped working. We regularly cleaned the machine and made sure clean water was in it and not old water. Every once in a blue moon it’d work for an hour before needing a refill and upon refilling the tank, it’d stop working.

    I am going to try to return this. When it works it works great, but it is very finicky and you have to constantly baby it to work and a lot of the time it flat refuses. There are a million YouTube videos and other fixes online... for $200-300 might be okay, but for the price, it should work well. It doesn't. Just search online.

      We want to help you with your Opal sounds and ice production. We recommend making sure your unit is producing normal sounds by checking the information in the article titled "Opal Ice Maker - Normal Sounds" on the GE Appliances website.

      Regarding your Opal not producing ice, we recommend checking that the ice bin is pushed all the way in place. and try to reset the Ice Maker by unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours. For more tips you can visit the article titled "Opal Ice Maker - Not Making Ice" on the GE Appliances website as well.

    DON'T BUY FRONM BEST BUY! missing ice scoop holder. Spent over 30 minutes calling store but get transferred to some call center where they can't help you.
