I bought this microwave to replace a GE Spacemaker that the builder installed 13 years ago...it had been a great unit but it stopped heating food. This seems to be a recurring issue with GE microwaves based on the blogs. The new one was installed and I was immediately disappointed in the cheapness of the door and handle, and it did not close easily. I gave it a try before the installer left and it didn't work!! Just like the previous unit, all the lights were on but it didn't heat food. I was also surprised at how loud it was, and the turntable didn't work! I went back to Best Buy for a refund and they replaced it with a higher priced brand at no extra charge.

Unit was the only GE white unit in stock over the holiday's when my 11 year old model broke. This unit has most of the same features. The difference is this model was half the price of my older model and I can tell the differences. The fan is extremely noisy, like can't hear people when at the stove with microwave on. The door seems flimsy. I don't expect it to last 11 years like the old one. If it was easy to take down and put a new one up I would return it.

As microwaves go, it has served well for about two years. It had a limited warranty for 1 year. Now it has suddenly given us a couple of problems. The fan will not turn off, although it indicates it is off. It burned something last week at a low heat that we regularly use on our tea with milk. I would give it a fair rating, as I expect a product such as this to be problem free for more than two years. I purchased it at Best Buy.

I purchased this as a replacement for my GE Spacemaker Model JVM1542 which took a dump on New Years Day. That one performed fine for the 4 years I had it, so I was comfortable sticking with the same brand, with similar features. Once I got it home and unboxed, I was pleased to find that all the neccessary mounting needs were the same as my last one, so no drilling was needed! But speaking from experience, if you have SOME mechanical aptitude, and some decent tools, you can install this yourself with ease, without any problem. I've read on other sites the reviews for this one that stated the fan was too noisy, but I noticed nothing of the sort. Maybe I was just used to my other one, I'm not sure. Some features that I like over my last one, when my food is done if I don't get to it right away instead of the annoying BEEP BEEP BEEP every minute, this one has a subtle single beep. The light under the unit itself lights the stove up MUCH better, which is nice because you will loose some lighting from your overhead light to the stove(at least I did). Everything else seems about the same so far.

Microwave is great. I had to turn the blower for my installation and the wire to the blower was way too short to be able to rotate the blower. There is no excuse for having instructions to tell you how to do an installation that obviously have never been followed by the company that wrote the instructions. Also, this was a replacement for another GE Spacemaker I had before. The new microwave has a fan feature that turns on and off autmatically to keep the processor cool. There was no mention of this in the operator manual at all. Wlhen it first would not turn off, I thought I had a faulty microwave. Luckily, I thought to do a search on the web before I took it down. This is inexcusable!

This unit has the exterior appearance of microwaves which cost triple what we paid (under $300 with taxes). The stainless design is modern and the key pad is simple and easy to use - it's not a mass of buttons like on some other microwaves. This is not a high output oven and does not have the convection feature, but it serves our purposes just fine. We have one minor gripe, and that's the positioning of the light underneath. Instead of being located in the center, it's all the way to the rear where it illuminates the wall instead of the range top cooking area. We noticed that models from several other manufacturers have the same design.

We looked at several above-range microwaves and selected this one for it's features and cost. It has all the features of microwaves costing more and has a great aesthetic appearance. It was easy to install and works great!

We were in the market for an over the stove microwave/vent, but were not ready to purchase one. Turns out, the vent was required for C.O. and we had to get it. I was happy to see that Best Buy had a smaller 1.5Cu. ft. unit at a much more affordable price. It's wonderful to have and a must for limited counter space.

Worked good four 13 months, but last month the KEYPAD died. GE stated that product was out of warranty and no assistance would be offered other than pay a service fee to get checked out. After reading the other reviews and their results, I decided not to waste my money and went out purchased an other brand last night, going to install tonight. I live in Louisville, KY and we have a GE plant here and have purchased nothing but GE, but not anymore. If I had read the reviews on this micowave, I would not have purchased it in the first place. If you do purchase this after reading all the reviews, good luck!

I wanted everyone to know that I really enjoy my new GE Stainless Steel Microwave. All the "Review's" I read were all pretty bad and I want everyone to know that I really like mine. It was extreemly easy to put up. I like how quiet it is and efficient. The only thing I would of liked to improve it would be to have the light more towards the front of the microwave. It will definitely be harder to change the light bulb when I have to do that. Other than that -- it's great!

Our 12 year old GE spacemaker would not heat up, and I believe it would have cost about $90 to replace the magnatron, plus labor, so we decided to get a replacement. We went in-store at Best Buy and got this at a good deal, better than the online sale price. When we got home, we installed it ourselves, keeping the old bracket from the old microwave oven. The difference between the old one (1999 model) and the new one (2011) is that the new one feels flimsy and is noisy, but it has a turntable. Also, there is an extra 'special metal alloy' rack in this new model. So far, it works, so I have no complains.

After only 14 months of occasional use this GE microwave stopped working. The magnatron tube failed. This is the part that actually makes food heat up. It's the equivalent to the engine of a car. I called GE and they said that the one year warranty had expired so they will not provide a replacement or cover the cost of repairs. I was told by the customer service rep that GE can send a repair man out at the cost of $90 PLUS the cost of parts and labor. In the end, it would cost just as much to replace the microwave than it would to repair it. As if I were not aggravated enough , a small amount of research showed that GE was well aware that the magnatron tubes on these units were prone to failure. Instead of trying to correct a critical defect with their product, GE chose to simply tell me and many others who had the same problem that there is nothing they can do so either fix it, or buy a new one. I chose to buy an new one get this piece of garbage out of my home. The simple solution to the problem would have been for GE to recognize their product has a defect and fix it when it breaks. If the magnatron tube were replaced by GE, I would have been completely happy. Instead, they played the "out of warranty" card in order to justify not taking responsibility for producing an item that they knew was defective. Do not buy this microwave or any other products from GE. They clearly do not stand behind their products or respect the people that spend their hard earned money to buy their cheaply built appliances.

Pretty simple. I purchased a GE Spacemaker and within 5 years it died. Magnatron failed. Service would have cost about one third the orginal price, then I would have to pay labor and parts. I opted to just buy a new GE Spacemaker. Just short of 5 years..same problem. Magnatron is covered by a 10 year warranty...if you can get GE to admit it, but still have to pay for labor and service call. This time I am going with another brand.

Our family of 5 has trouble living without a microwave, but the higher quality units are well out of our reach at this time. This inexpensive over-the-range microwave has all the features we wanted, like the rotating tray, 1 touch cooking, and child lock-out feature, at a price we could afford. It was very easy to install ourselves. We have not had any trouble with it these since we installed it 3 weeks ago. However, it doesn't sit as securely to the wall as I would like, and the door construction feels flimsy in my hand. The charcoal filter doesn't come with the unit; GE charges an extra $22+ bucks for it. All in all, I would recommend it to someone with tight finances, but it you have more money to spend, upgrade.

For the price that I paid for the microwave it looks great, works well and It was a great value. It is a little bit loud because of the built in fan but nothing I can't deal with. Very pleased with it!!!

The oven seems to be operating as anyone would expect a microwave to, but there are some annoying quirks about it that didn't exist in the last GE model oven we had. The Good: --Easy to install --Oven is relatively quiet (excluding the exhaust) --Works well The Bad: --The exhaust fan is EXTREMELY loud. And it only has 2 speeds, low and high. A medium would have been nice. --The door is hard to shut. Most oven doors shut with a light close. This one takes some force, and I find it swinging back out toward my face all the time. --The range light is very dim. Even on high it's only as bright as the "night" setting on our last GE oven. Overall, the bad things aren't enough to make me go out and spend the money on a new oven, but they certainly do make me miss our old one. (it finally gave up after 10 years)

Anything you see that is higher than one star is a most likely a review of the microwave they day the unit was bought. There is no question that the microwave is very nice. I love this microwave. However, this microwave did not last more than six months before it started to make loud buzzing noises, then eventually three months later it stopped heating. We bought the extended warranty, and the bill, covered in full, was over twice the cost of the microwave. The use of the microwave was to heat water for coffee in the morning, then reheat food later at night. Very little use. As the microwave is fixed and now functional, I have set a reminder on my calendar to start looking for a new one before the extended warranty is up in another year. It will not be a GE.

sleek design, good price for the money. the anouncement that the food is ready is cool and the second reminder in comes in about a minute.

The unit was fairly inexpensive for an above range microwave. I was replacing a unit that was a previous similar older model from about 10 years ago. The older one actually looked a bit more sleek and the touch pad more clear and intuitive to use than the new one. I thought that since i was getting a very similar model class, that the wall frame to hang it on would be the same...it turns out that it is completely different... so i had to take out the old wall plate and drill in holes to put in a new one. If I had known that I would have to go through all that extra installation stuff, I would have just bought any brand that i liked more, not needing to stick with the similar GE model as the old one.

ONLY LASTED 1 Year and 3 Months. Worked great, looked great... although just like half the products nowadays, it didn't last much more than the warranty. Called GE...'what customer service?' never made to customer service, each number they gave me lead me back to an independent service center. Then they wanted to charge me just under $80 plus parts and labor. Ridiculous! I can buy a new one for that. Unfortunately this is the 2nd GE item to have this issue, the other was a dishwasher. I did like GE, but this is officially the last thing i will buy from GE and of course never recommend it again.
