We just purchased this microwave and without thinking it though, I installed it before turning it on to test it out. When I did turn it on I was shocked at how loud the fan was which suprised me because my old GE microwave (which is almost identical) was very quiet. Our house has an open design and the microwave can be heard throughout the house. It is going back to the store tommorow! Quiet is a relative term so if you are thinking about purchasing this microwave I stongly suggest you make them turn it on for you before you purchase it to hear it for yourself. Pehaps your old microwave sounds like a lawn mower and if that is the case you may love this one.

Replaced a GE spacemaker that "died". like the replacement, easy to use, a bit noisier that previous appliance. Miss the feature that I could mute the end of cycle and reminder NOISE. can't do that on this one. doesn't attract the fingerprints as bad as previous model, smaller capacity, but enough for us. over all very pleased with the appliance. appreciate the staff at Best Buy in Golden, they are very knowledgeable.

This microwave is good but as it cooks it is extremely loud. I don't know how others products sound but I was thinking that maybe it is because of the vent but my aunt has a OTR microwave and her's is not nearly as loud as mine. She did say hers was loud but I can't tell. I have service coming out to check the noise level and to fix it if there is a problem. Other than that, it works good.

Ask anyone around that has a few years on you, & they'll say that GE's a good quality brand... well, I've come to realize that "not anymore" should be added to that statement. And maybe I'm being a little too demanding, & possibly jumping to conclusions, but several reviews can't be a coincidence! The same exact thing happened to me that was posted by TOD66 on 05/26/2010 - the microwave was GREAT...until about 3 months ago, when the entire keypad died - only 15 months old when it stopped working!! The review Posted by NoMoreGEbrands4Me on 07/17/2010 explains exactly what happened when I inquired about fixing it - same thing w/ paying for service calls & parts/labor fees. I know that small appliances & electronics are meant to be replaced, but I'd expect much more than 15 months! It's unfortunate, but I know now to steer away from GE from now on...

The microwave looks great in our kitchen and cooks the food well so my complaints are minor. However, we were unable to test the microwave out first and are surprised by how noisy it really is. Also, if you change the Power Level, it's DAYS and DAYS before you can change it back...don't understand that at all. But it IS nice and I really like it so that's kinda minor,I think...

Sounds like my problem is a lot of others as well. I can say my microwave lasted almost 4 years,but last week the keypad died. I would think that a microwave should last longer than that and also the keypad would be one of the last things to go out. Too much moisture when boiling water? Do You think the engineers would have thought of that? Im trying to limp through with just the potato, popcorn and 30 sec setting til I can replace it. I worked at GE in Louisville in the 70's and 80's. Their appliances were a great deal and good quality. But now? Not so sure. I have a GE range as well and the keypad is sticking.

Very dissapointed with the cooking times. Everything is taking approximately 40-50 % longer to cook than it did in our previous GE Spacemaker Microwave Oven. Cooking times for prepackaged or frozen foods are also 50% longer than with our previous GE MicrowaveOven. The the "Popcorn Setting" doesn't work right, 1/4 of the popcorn kernels remain unpopped at the end of the cyle. Even "boiling" a cup of water takes 40-50% longer. We chose the GE Spoacemaker because for 10 years we had been very happy with our old GE Spacemaker Microwave. We decided to stay with what we knew worked well rather than take a chance on a new Brand. This idea backfired; and companies/people wonder what happened to customer loyalty We will be rep!lacing our dishwasher soon and I won't make the same mistake twice. I will shop around and not rely on past Brand Experience.

This is my second GE Spacesaver Microwave. The first one lasted about 5 years. I decided to go back with this model because all of the mounting hardware is the same as the old one, so all I had to do is unplug the old one and remove three bolts, then hang the new one on the old bracket, replace the three bolts and plug it in. The only negative on the new microwave over the old one, is that the new microwave only has one undermount light and it is very dim. So when you are cooking on the stove the undermount light doesn't illuminate as well as the old design, which had two bright lights.

The microwave developed problems 30 days after installation. It stopped responding to the keypad and began misbehaving - sometimes it would not heat, sometimes the light and fan would not turn off. Turned out that the glass plate in the door was misaligned and prevented the door from closing properly. The sensor could not “see” that the door was closed so things wouldn't work. The repairman pushed the glass into alignment and said this was the second one he’d seen with this problem. It appears that GE’s quality control is poor at the factory. This is an easy problem to detect and prevent at the factory - even I could see that the glass was protruding past the plastic frame when the repair person pointed it out. The repair was covered under the 1 year warranty period. The GE repair person arrived within the scheduled 4 hour window. However, it was an unnecessary inconvenience since I had to take off a half day of work

I had this microwave built in when I remodeled my house. It is a nice microwave that replaces your range hood for venting. It came with a 10 yr warranty. It did fine for a couple of years, but then the Magnatron went out. Apparently they expect this part to go out because it is talked about specifically in the warranty! Although this part is covered under warranty, they wanted $50 to come out to my house to replace it! I was a little put off because I didn't think that I should have to pay for a service call if the product is under warranty. At the time I didn't feel like fighting it and was thinking that $50 is okay to get this pricey microwave up and running again. But now, a couple of years later, this same part goes out AGAIN! This time they want $80 to come out to my home and replace it. After much arguing, with someone in INDIA mind you, I have decided to take my $80 and use it to buy another microwave that is not a GE! They show their appreciation to their customers by ROBBING them on service charges. I would understand if the item was not under warranty but this is how they treat their customers? I hope they go bankrupt. Not only would I not recommend buying this microwave, I'm letting you know if you buy any GE appliance, you are taking a chance that could cost you. I admit I've had some GE products that lasted. I realize now that luck was with me and I won't buy GE again.

Just stopped heating. Read it's the magnatron which costs about $140 plus labor and tax and I'm paying for what would be a new microwave. Safe to say this is a low end microwaver, you get what you pay for and GE seems to REALLY want you to have service. I called to cancel after reading the amount it would be exceeding amount of microwave, and I was put through all kinds of sales pitches to keep the appointment. Could it be GE makes more money on REPAIRS so they sell products at lower price points to generate the secondary income?? hmmm Bottom line, no more GE's for me. NOTHING should die under 2 years and the part used to be under warranty for 5 years...GE stopped that last year...I guess they were losing their shirts replacing the garbarge parts. It's a shame.

I really like the express cook buttons and use them all the time. Instead of pressing *Time Cook*, *1:00*, *Start*, you just press the number one button and it automatically begins cooking your food for one minute (the number two button cooks it for two minutes and so on up to the number 6 button, for 6 minutes). We use one for home and one for business. The business one's vent fan did break and doesn't work on low now - and it's only three years old. For that one, whenever we have to cook something we just turn the fan on high

Works just fine for what I require. Obviously not for the gourmet cook. But then again, why would a gourmet cook use a microwave anyway. Great microwave for your basic heat and eat.

I have purchased this product twice and both quit working about 13 months after purchase that would be one month after warranty was up. the key pad is what went out . this is the biggest piece of junk , I would never recomend to buy this product.

I have unfortunately have had an awful experience w/ the GE spacemaker. The first time it broke was exactly one year after my purchased but just after the warranty date expired. The second time was only 6 months thereafter. The first problem was the major part that heats the mircowave and a fuse. It's like the part had a timer in it to fail as soon as the 1yr warranty expired. It cost over $100 just for the part to fix it then another $70 to have someone come out to install the part. Six months later another major part went out and the cost was $80 but they politely waived the additional $70 cost to come out and install the second part. Too much hassle for a microwaive that orig. cost $190.

Great looks, great functions, only last 2 years... I'm on my third one.... first two died and I'm not ready to remodel kitchen so bought another... what the definition of insanity?? So if you buy, have a backup plan in 2 years as you will need another one….

This Microwave/Rangehood was a snap to install. I had an issue with the operation,GE came out fixed it. I've used other M/Rhd's with a materials quality deficiency. ie the front panel/handle broke on three out of four. The GE looks much better. 5 Stars*****

Replaced old micro with this unit, stop working after 2 weeks. Went to best buy with warranty to replace unit, they had none in stock even though it was sunday and the start of new sale ad and this item was featured in ad on sale. Wanted to sell more costly unit the only 1 microwave they had in stock, or come back in a week or two for this unit when it might be instock. This was a 80 mile round trip,would not ship to us. Not very happy with assistant manager who not helpful at all and told us we could go to a competitor to buy.

I like the features and looks of the microwave unfortunately the unit is of poor quality and engineered to fail. Unit lasted 15 months, just long enough to not be covered by the standard 12 month warranty. GE's customer service leaves much to be desired. They don't offer any type of troubleshooting just an offer of a service tech to come out and assess the situation for $80 + parts. I won't by this microwave but if you do make sure you get an extended warranty because you are going to need it.
