At the time of my writing this (early 2017) there is still a lot of confusion regarding VR. Pretty much everyone knows it's going to be everywhere, but at the moment there are a lot of format wars with competing platforms and price points. I have played on one of the best systems out there, the HTC Vive, and it is an awesome experience. But for most of us the $600+ price tag for devices on that level this early in the game is just too much. On the other end of the spectrum are the around 15 or 20 dollar VR headsets that are fun for a moment but don't really work too well. Enter the Samsung VR and it's companions in the around $100 price range. They aren't as great as the expensive units, as your cell phone can't handle running hand set controller (except for an X-box style game pad which you could buy separately) but what you can do with them sans-controller is surprisingly versitile. This device is partnered with Oculus, so in other words you won't have access to the Google Play store for content, but the Oculus store as it turns out is full of great material, much of it even for free. For the un-initiated it's worth noting that Oculus is the manufacturer of one of the high-end expensive VR units on the market, and Samsung and this headset really benefit from their time spent developing this technology. In summation, this is reasonably priced for what you get. Not as capable as the much more expensive class out there, but much better than the cheap ones. At a time when companies are still fighting it out to see who will dominate in a couple of years, the Samsung VR is a great entry point. If you're like me, it won't just sit on the shelf collecting dust.

We bought them on the same day as a professinal boxing match. We were able to see everything like we were in the arena. Lots of fun...

Wired magazine gave it an awesome review of a great responsive alternative to the oculus rift. Content somewhat limited now but it will improve.

I got this as a gift for my husband, but I can't seem to keep it out of our 18 year old sons hands. It's got great games and graphics and it's fun and easy to use. The only thing I don't like about it is this device is only compatible with other Samsung devices, so we have to wrestle my husbands phone away from our kid to use it!

There's not much happening with the gear vr, there's only a handful of games and after a few minutes of using it to watch videos you will begin to feel the weight. That said, if you're looking for a fun introduction to VR the Gear is a great affordable option.

Went in to Best Buy to get help with phone. While I waited, I put on the demo VR goggles and was blown away! I bought a pair 2 days later after doing a little on line research. I bought them for my 11 year old daughter, but I use them just as much. Love the graphics and the gaming experiences. Having said that it does tend to drag just a little if your watching video, like a live roller coaster ride for example and after prolonged use the phone tends to heat up. It is a little blurry on certain items but it is only $100. I will continue to upgrade as newer goggles become available. I've had them for a week and just love them!! for the money I absolutely recommend

What goes around comes around and we're once again back at Virtual Reality. The Gear VR from Samsung does a great job with what little Apps and videos work for it but, I feel it's more like a gimmick and the novelty will wear off soon just like Microsoft's Kinect for Xbox 360. It's something really cool to try and say you have but, once you run out of friends to show it to, it doesn't really matter anymore.

I recently acquired my first smart phone - the Samsung galaxy note 5 - this is the perfect complement to the phone. You feel emersed in the scenes while watching videos. Outstanding!

Best for Samsung phones, of course. I bought another brand but it did not fit my Galaxy 6 Edge (even though specs said it would). Went for Samsung and phone fits great! Only complaint is that it runs very hot after only a few minutes of use. Can continue to use but sacrifice quality of playback. But glad I bought.

The Gear VR is awesome. But I still list it as a novelty. I do not use mine everyday. The only complaints I have is the focus(kinda blurry) & it is not HD. Its great for what it is and the price of 100.00 is ok. But basically it is only plastic with plastic magnifying glasses. You have to have the correct cell phone to operate it. They need to update the software/phones and make hd contect available.

I absolutely love the Samsung Gear VR. VR will be the future of education, training, gaming, advertising, real estate, etc. Most games and " experiences " fully immerse the user where one feels like the are actually there. It is incredible. However, it is not perfect yet. It can be blurry at times, cause some motion sickness, and fog up on the lenses. However, the fun and awe outweigh the few minor issues. Get this with a compatible Bluetooth joystick to get the most out of it.

For the price that I spent for it $0, its a fun toy and does what it says it does. I do have an issue with some fuzziness and blur which from reading around the internet is because of eye placement and the lack of adjustment of the lens to work with my eyes but other than that it is pretty funky but as the subject line says, right now too me it's basically a toy. I'm not really sure I would purchase one if it hadn't come free with my phone purchase. But good fun though.
